Ah, Sonic. You may fondly recall this fast food drive-in, where all that separates you from a hot meal and delicious desserts is a red button and a credit card. You still remember the way that bag of grease looked as it was wheeled to you by a teenager who just learned how to roller blade a few minutes ago. The way they somehow made it to your bumper, clutching your corn dogs and tots as they did their best newborn Bambi impersonation. Well cling to those memories like a minivan bumper, because you're getting none of that nostalgia here. At this Sonic, when you pull into a space and hit that "ready to order" button, you've created a mortal enemy in the employee on the receiving headset. "DRIVE THRU ONLY" they exclaim, exasperated that they have to tell you this, as you try and remember a time you've been gaslit more effectively. As you pull into the drive in, they remember the hatred they felt towards you just a few seconds prior. Their teenage angst is on full display, like a mid 2000s My Chemical Romance concert, shouting out "ANYTHING ELSE?!?" after every item you order. Why did you pull into their drive-thru in the first place?!? The only saving grace, aside from the friendly young woman who was handing out the food (and should have been handed the headset duties instead), is that the food came out hot. I suppose that's not a high bar to reach when you've thrown out the rest of the business model and have nearly zero customers. So if you're feeling like a drive-in, find a Stewart's. If you're feeling like a good conversation, go to your local diner. But if you're upset that nobody has made you feel like your presence offended them today, make sure to stop by Sonic Drive-Thru. read more

Last time I came to this location I asked for a 12 piece bbq chicken. They gave me Buffalo which I can't eat for medical reasons. I called the location, spoke to a manager, and they told me they were going to replace my chicken and give me a free cherry limeaide for the inconvenience. Today I came in, ordered my chicken, told them who I am, and I had a woman named Kay standing in the window raising her voice at me telling me none of her managers recall my story and the best she can do for me is give me a 6 piece.... Not the 12 piece I was owed. I done even care about the extra drink I was offered. She spoke down to me yelling and getting nasty after THEIR mess up and now I'm the one who still paid for something I didn't get. Smh read more

I was happy when this place first opened because it was a new novelty in the area to park and order from your car and have people skate over and deliver it to you... But that wore out after the first couple visits. Now I pretty much just pass through the drive through and pick something up once in while but today we decided to eat in since it was lunch time and we wanted a quick burger on the way to where we were going. We were the only people in the place and they have a bell so someone will come out and take the order. We both ordered burger combos and when they were ready the guy delivered them to us in a bag even though we were eating there. Anyway I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster- which is just basically a burger served on Texas Toast. When I unwrapped it I joked that it looked like someone stepped on it... I couldn't bare to take a picture of it because it was pretty sad to look at. Anyway the tater tots were good... and my peanut butter milkshake was the best part! So note to self just come for the shakes... read more

Seems to be the thing with this location. Did an in app order (the sonic app) and it told me to pull into any stall and give the stall number in app. The stall screen welcomes me by name and then I sit there for ten minutes before I decide to hit the button and see what's up. I am told drive thru only. So when were you planning on telling me? Top it all off. Missing stuff from my order. Sure check your order always. I was already not in the mood since I am myself at work. They couldn't even find the order when I got to the window. So. 1.No mention that it's drive thru only so if you order on their app, good luck. 2.Due to my order being made and no one acknowledging, it was just room temp food by the time I got it. 3. Missing a whole order of popcorn chicken and condiments because whats the point of marking it in app that you want certain sauces/ketchup/mustard/3 read more

Sonic Drive-In - Receipt. - Burgers Near Me - Green Brook, New Jersey

Best Sonic in the area (comparing the one by Menlo Park Mall). This spot always hit. I always go here when i'm near and each time my orders were completed in such a timely manner. My last visit was midday and I had ordered ahead on the Sonic app. It was easy to use and the instructions to pick up was clear as day. I had adjusted my order and they hit every piece on the head. read more

Drove up to stall 4 and pushed the button for service. Nothing happened. Waited 5 minutes. Nothing happened. Changed to stall 22 and pushed the button. Got a prompt that said we'll be with you "shortly." Five more minutes passed, nothing happened. There were two cars in the drive through line and two other stalls occupied. This is your level of service on a weekday at 1pm? Pathetic. read more

They wouldn't let me use the drive in stall and forced me to sit in the drive thru line to pick up the order I was getting to deliver for my DoorDash customer. The girl had a bad attitude. Overall bad service. I don't eat here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

My husband just came home from stopping here and had a dismayed look on his face. When I asked him what was wrong, he ran up to the bathroom and proceded to get sick. He had ordered a large popcorn chicken and after he to a bite and swallowed he thought the skin was a little soft. However is wasn't the skin..... the whole piece of chicken inside the crispy exterior was raw. They refunded his money, however I do not think we will be eating at this location ever again. I can understand mistakes but serving raw chicken disguised in a crispy exterior is terrible. This could have ended much much worse than it did. They really need to be more careful. read more

You can't come to sonic without getting a shake! Their shakes are awesome. For the full experience I recommend parking in the drive up parking spots so you have enough time to figure out your order! This sonic is a little slow depending on what time you go (at night they are slower) but I think it's worth the wait! Burgers and tater tot's are usually my go to food wise for this sonic. For all of my banana pudding lovers I recommend the banana cream pie shake!! read more

Horrible customer service. Very loud and rude. Was difficult to correct something in the order.

I do not recommend sonic. I put an order through on the Yelp act app I put it for 20 minutes pick up I paid with my credit card I got a confirmation and said to follow up through the app. I get to the drive-in I had to wait about 10 minutes for somebody to come to the microphone. I told him I did a pick up order they said just come up and pick up at the window I give them my name I give them exactly what I ordered I told him I paid and the girl at the window said we don't have that order you can get back in line and order again. I did not do that I will not do that and I most likely will not be going back to this sonic. Now I need to dispute the over $20 charge on my credit card. read more

Food is always consistently what it is - fast food - but the one thing that irritates me is that it takes 7-9 minutes after ordering to get your food at the drive thru - thats also consistent. read more

This is my first time coming to a Sonic - and I enjoyed it for sure. The taters were perfectly crispy, the onion rings breaded with just the right amount of onion to bread ratio, and the drinks came with that amazing shredded ice (which seems quite hard to find these days). And, as many already know, they are known for their unique parking lots where one can feel separated from the car next to them with a semi enclosed space ad large screen. My only complaint would be the quality of the burger - I wasn't impressed. The cut made me feel they used a cookie cutter, and the taste was nothing to rave about. Separate from that, I plan to come again and maybe try the chicken or corn dogs! read more

Had a #2 cheeseburger at sonic. It was excellent. Very surprised. Will definitely come back for that again.

This was my first experience at Sonic. The concept of driving up to a stall, placing your order, and being served by people on roller stakes is fun but I am not sure how efficient it is compared to standard drive throughs. Navigation in and out of the spots can be tricky when it is busy but at least for now they seem to be helping you out with this. Now for the food - a BLT Sandwich, Onion Rings, and an Oreo Sonic Blast. The BLT was great - it is nice to know that this is a place to get one when you have the craving. The onion rings are a pass - not much taste and not worth the calories for a zag. The blast was very good -- but how can you go wrong with Oreos and soft serve? Bottom line is the BLT alone is a reason for me to go back sometime in the future. The place is new as Sonic itself is new to the area. It is my hope they can maintain the freshness of the experience and keep an interesting option open for those looking to Drive-In for food. read more

This may just be me, but I am worried that Sonic may suffer a bit of market saturation in my book. I remember the specialness that came along with a trek (not just a trip, but a trek) to a Sonic. I remember getting all my friends to cram into a car and drive far far away when we were craving Slushies and Tots. However, there has been a recent explosion in the number of Sonic Drive-Ins to hit New Jersey. I remember I used to have to drive no less than 40 minutes to the nearest Sonic either way up in Totowa or down South by Tom's River. Now there is one on Rt 17 and another in on Rt 22. I'm not knocking them at all. They are all pretty much what you would expect from a national chain. It's just that I remember when I used to think that I wish I had a Sonic near by, but now that my "wish" has come true, I've lost some of the magic at America's Drive-In read more

I've been going to this Sonic off and on since it opened. At first the food and service was great, then it slowly declined. The changes that have been made are definitely for the better! The drive up screens are all brand new. It's pretty cool, you can pay with an app now! As for the food, it was much better than I remembered. I got a burger, tots, and an ocean water with peach flavor. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! The server who dropped off the food was really nice. I'll definitely start coming back more often. Just as an FYI, the servers only get paid $5 an hour, they rely on tips just as a server in a full service restaurant would. I did not know this until yesterday and now that I do I will definitely be tipping from now on. This is a corporate rule and has no reflection on ownership. read more

Made an order through UberEats and forgot to mention no tomato, no ketchup. Called and let them know I screwed up and they were nice enough to remake my order! Forever grateful! Thank you sonic!!! read more

Been waiting a half hour in the drive. Each of the few cars ahead of me took 10 minutes each

Me & hubby went to the sonic in greenbrook, nj on rt 22. Usually we eat in the car but hubby wanted a hot dog he knew would be messy so we ate inside. We ordered inside (fyi : they answer you outside in the car faster) and sat to wait for the food. That's when the FLIES descended. Regular flies And fruit flies. So we spent some time waving flies away waiting for our food. Im glad the brought the food in bags cause i was Ready To Go. Will not be back. read more

Had been going to this place since the day it opened. Regular sonic food, nothing to rave about. They will mess your order up occasionally like any fast food place but for the most part they've always been good and friendly. On my last a few weeks ago visit we parked in one of the bays and pressed the "order button" after about 30 seconds we get a response of "Gimme a minute" no " Hi welcome to sonic" or anything, just "Gimme a minute" which was odd, but they might be busy in the kitchen or something, despite us being one of two vehicles there at 8pm on a Sunday. So we waited...and waited...and waited...after maybe 5 minutes a car pulls into bay next to us. We're still waiting. They sit there a minute, then we hear them getting their order taken. Not sure if it was by the "gimme a minute" guy we were apparently waiting for to come back, but they definitely got there order taken. we left after that, not sure what we were waiting for the guy to finish doing but apparently they were too busy to handle our order of two shakes. It'll be a while before I go back again... read more

I was displeased, to say the least. It started with the drive up order machine shutting down mid-order. Then when prompted to pay by the carhop, the pay screen never showed up. They came out with a card reader to take my payment, but that just meant one more trip outside resulting in them forgetting a multitude of items. All condiments including the ones that were specifically asked for were left out along with any utensils or napkins. I had no ketchup OR HONEY MUSTARD for my chicken or tater tots. Then to top it all off, when my drinks were brought out- after the food mind you- Javier told me that he would be right back with my straws. Javier was not right back with my straws. I sat and waited for TWO HOURS. He never came out and I ended up having to go up to the drive through to get them. In conclusion I will not be going back. read more

I have never been to a sonic but I sort of knew what to expect. Drive-up style with a roller skating waitress and their many 1 million plus combination's of fountain drinks. Alright burgers, so/so fries and I was more impressed with their hot dogs than anything else. I tried the Chicago dog and although so much relish was on it, it still was worth the try. I guess most people enjoy the roller skating service which is a good bonus but overall the food is average. read more

I stopped by this Sonic on the way home after a night out with my friend. He had never been to a Sonic before, and I was jonesing for a milkshake, so we decided to pop in. We pulled in to one of the carhop spots and he looked over the menu, as I looked over the milkshakes. He got a chicken sandwich on texas toast which he liked but couldn't finish so we took it home. We both got tots, which are always good. And I got a pretzel dog - which was fantastic. I love pretzel bread. I also got the banana cream pie milkshake, which was good. It had little bits of crust in there and a strong banana flavor. Not much more you can ask for. The carside service guy tripped on his way to my car and almost wiped out with the tray. Thankfully he gained his balance and didn't lose any of the food. read more

I absolutely love this place. I waited for YEARS for them to put a Sonic w/in driving distance and am so happy they did. Their burgers are larger than life and loaded with all the fixins and love the corn dogs too! And it is really nice to have tater tots as an alternative to fries Also love the extensive drink and ice cream dessert options! Finally a Sonic! read more

So. First, and last time here. We decided to go inside instead of eating on our car, but I see why people DO eat in their cars.,. for a quick get away. My husband got a chili cheese dog which came packed in a tight cellophane bag that wiped off the majority of the cheese when he took it out. I got a basic chicken sandwich that reminded me why I choose Wendy's for my fast food go-to. The ched-r-poppers were inconsistent but were edible. The shakes were good but it's kinda hard to mess up blending ice cream. And our server never brought our change but then said he thought he did when we asked. It didn't amount much but still, how many others has he stiffed. Silas. Best part of the meal was being able to leave at the end. I won't be back. read more

Well, I have gone here about 2 times for their so called famous shakes. Let me tell u something their shakes aren't nothing but shit. I got 2 shakes one small vanilla and the other was vanilla with nerds toppings. The nerds where fucking old as shit. I thought nerds where supposed to be colurful not puke yellow. Also, the vanilla shake was green. How the fuck is vanilla green makes no sense what so ever. I also got a burger man the shit was ass. I swear to god I would rather eat Jesus' ass Crack then this ever again. I'm gonna do u all a favor and not talk about the service I'll let another person talk about that. Oh I almost forgot look at the after effect of my meal. I stopped at some food place on the way home cuz I had to shit out my food. Just look. Never go here unless u want to explode. read more

It's suppose to be fast food. The drive through here is slow slow slow. Ordered French toast sticks through the app, and they don't have any. No one said anything so we drive away. Have to pull over and go to window in the Covid pandemic. Took us 45 minutes. Really ridiculous. Won't be coming back. Keep on driving people keep on. read more

Absolutely horrible. Everytime we've gone here it's been slow, but this time it was horrible. We were the only car there, we waited 10 minutes in the car lot with our red button pressed and no response. Then cars came to the drive through and got served. We called while waiting and they couldn't even pick up the phone. We decided to go through the drive through and the woman there took her time taking our order. Very slow service, and I wouldn't be surprised if 2 people were working today. read more

I would say I've never had bad quality food from here but all I can say is that the service is extremely slow. They literally take one order at at time. If it wasn't for how good there shakes were I would of got out of line like many others did. I swear I was in line for about 40 mins for just ONE DRINK ! This is why anytime someone says "can you pick up sonic?", "wanna go to sonic?" My answer is a quick NO with no hesitation. After months this was my first time back and nothing has changed... read more

This is similar to the other Sonics I've been to. I like the enclosed patio they added on.

Thank you Sonic! I had a craving for a strawberry milkshake and at the recommendation of my dad we went to another ice cream place located in downtown Manville. I won't say the name but the review is up if you are interested in not repeating my mistake. Anyways the shake at this place was so disgusting my father drank most of it, leaving me with my hankering for a strawberry shake..oh the dilemma..first world problems. Who came to the rescue, Sonic! One star less because happy hour is 2-4pm only for slushy drinks and sodas not for milkshakes (that happy hour is 8pm-close). Used the drive thru and it was fast and friendly! read more

First time going to Sonic and was happily surprised with the great service provided by Luis. Best carhop and great attitude. Definitely coming back soon. read more

The food from sonic is usually amazing and I would have no complaints about that. Unfortunately this location made the decision to switch the paper straws, which doesn't seem bad until you actually try to use one. My straw quickly became soggy and unusable, making 90% of my milkshake go to waste. There's no point having great food if you can't actually enjoy it. read more

I give this particular sonic the two stars, not the franchise. I absolutely love cherry limeades and do not have a problem driving 30 minutes to get one. However, after my first trip to this particular sonic I learned to ask for easy ice the next time I went as they filled up the cup with ice and there want much drink. Well, we just got back from our second trip and I asked for light ice however once again we got 80% ice and little limeade. You know it is the little things in life. I also abhor establishments that use such cost saving tactics. read more
