Over the 7 years that I've been in OC, the service at this place does not improve. The mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce are good and the drinks are delicious but I've waited over an hour in the drive through line for over an hour on multiple occasions. In addition, the other day, manager would not apply my yelp drink check-in as she said I needed to place the order online when the offer never says anything about that. Stood outside in the cold waiting for an employee to help me for a pick up order. Instead they just walked by and right back inside without even acknowledging me. I understand they get busy, but it's really annoying when you're waiting for help and the employees don't even acknowledge you. After hours of arriving here, I was very hungry. I didn't eat breakfast. To have a better experience for my family first time eating here (as well as my self) I downloaded and ordered it through the app. Adding combos and burgers and such, it was pretty pricey. But the food "Look" good for a reasonable price. I looked up the yelp review of the restaurant, and it had two stars. I was kinda worried the outcome of the service we were going to be served. When sitting in the patio area, the young man came out with our food, and I thanked him for his service, looking at the order some things were missing, like the straws, napkins and ketchup. The young man was very kind, and trying his best to assist with everything as possible I try to sympathize with him. As I asked almost every time he left the door that, the basic condiments and my missing medium fries. The patio was very nice, not messy but still kinda neglected, if anyone really wanted to be outside the car. The food was kinda filling, but I expected a meal, so it wasn't it a pleasant experience. We wanted to try this place out for the first time, but I knew we were going to be disappointed. The Kitchen grade was not posted on the window, thus that could've been a warning, of a unpleasant service. From the look of it, no bathrooms were available for guest. Our family decided to try Sonics and come to our own conclusion since we've heard mixed reviews. My kids both like it and said they would want to go back. My wife and I wasn't as completely sold. We said we would go back but it wouldn't likely be our first choice. I'm not sure if it parking ever fills up completely because there must have been at least 30 stalls available for drive up orders. I often come to this location when ordering on the app there is usually a wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Usually this doesn't bother me too much I understand that low staffing and situations come up, however my last visit I spent an hour in a stall waiting for 3 drinks and when the finally got them the ice was melted and the staff said they couldn't re make them. Today I ordered on the app a Sonic blast with Reese's. Not only did it take an hour after my pick up time to receive my order but half way through the blast they decided to add Oreos. This is a drive-thru fast food place and ambiance Kinda reminds you of the 60's where you parked, place your order and eat your meal(s) in the car. We ordered combo 1: Sonic Cheeseburger with Tater fries and a drink in a Large size, double cheese burger with large slush drink. Service was good. The staff who took our orders was nice and sweet. We got our food in a timely manner. Burgers tastes good; moist and juicy. This is a nice place for late night snacks. Don't forget to check-in in Yelp to get a large drink or slush for $0.99. Went to sonic for a quick stop. I had not been to sonic in over 10 years but my friends wanted some so we stopped. I ordered some mozzarella sticks, fries, a hot dog, and a slushie. The slushie was amazing just like I remembered it and surprisingly the mozzarella sticks were good too. I bit into my hot dog because you save the best for last. I pulled one short hair out of my mouth. My friends told me it was just mine and to brush it off so I did. I then proceeded to take another bite. Like a magician pulling this long strand of hair out of my mouth. It was embedded into the hot dog. After reaching out to the manager who took over 15 minutes to speak with me. I told her everything else was fine including the fries and mozzarella sticks but I needed a solution. She told me she could make me a new hot dog. I was very polite and told her I didn't want any other food and would likely not be returning. She said that's fine and was looking at me like I was stupid not offering any solutions. She seemed like she hated her job which I would too if I was working at a fast food joint at 45 years old. I was not rude to her in any way shape or form and she said she could refund me money. I said that would work thank you. She then took my half drank slushie and the rest of my parties food. Everything that I had ordered was taken and thrown away which I'm fine with but it was disappointing to see her treat me as a customer like it was my fault. What in the world is this place?? Oh wow!! Where do I even start?? This was our 1st time coming here, per my kids request they wanted to try this place. Drove about 20 miles just to be utterly disappointed. The place looks so run down! Dirty peeling paint, trash cans overflowing with garbage, spilled sticky drinks everywhere. Broken beer bottles on floor, dark and gloomy menu screens, low flickering lights across the whole place. Everything was dark. I didn't want to disappoint my kids by leaving, since this place had been on the list of places to try. Stuck it out and stayed, since we figured we would just eat in our car. The food arrived and it was definitely not what we expected. We asked for a plain cheeseburger for one of the kids and they put everything in it. We ordered chili cheese fries and they were horrible. Dry, crispy chili on salty greasy fries. Coney dog tastes like a microwave hot dog. Think of reheated food from like a gas station or something alike. Totally gross, old reheated food with low quality ingredients. I really had to go to the restroom, the restrooms are all the way in the back by a sketchy parking lot. I walked in and walked out. He was upset because he couldnt hear me, yes that's not my fault the music is playing too loud and he cannot hear me. I ordered a kids meal for my nephew, chicken strips with fries. They gave me tator tots. He's the pickiest kid and won't eat tots. So those went to waste. I ordered him a m&m sonic blast and the guy never asked me what size, and I paid for a large. I drove through on Friday, October 13th at about 10:15pm after a high school football game. Surprisingly, there wasn't anyone in the drive through line. I ordered 2 chili dogs, 1 plain hot dog, 1 order of tater tots and a medium french fry, no salt. First of all, the french fries looked like it was a kid size. Usually when I order my french fries with no salt, it is made fresh. These fries tasted like they were made a week before - cold and chewy. YUCK. My husband could only eat one of this chili dogs because they were so bad. He said the tater tots were real greasy. Plus the service was slow, which I wouldn't have minded if my food was fresh and tasted good. Also, a HEADS UP - double check your order before you drive off. Rhonda here. Came with my eldest son and we purchased two medium slushees. To my horrific surprise, they messed these beverages up. Messed them up bad. My slushee was supposed to contain a blue coconut base with fresh lime, and my son's slushee was supposed to contain a blue coconut base with mango added in. Yet we received two blue raspberry slushees with NO MANGO AND NO LIME. Not even with coconut. This completely ruined my night and I have sworn to never return. My cat just died, so this was great. I'm surprised of how it change..I don't know what to say honestly. It's ok that the stalls are closed and only drive thru, but from 3 fries that we ordered, only 1 pack that was not salty! We order the chili cheese coney combo for 2 sets and it's honestly salty, it's like a bottle of salt got poured in it. I use to like your food, but seriously it's surprises me a lot! The fries that was in the combo, was 2 sets and the other set is additional, I dunno which one is which, but out of 3 pack, 2 was deadly salty! It's freshly made, as you said it was, and it's just freshly salty as well. You have a good customer service though in this store, I must say that. Just fix the saltiness please, coz I do know Sonic was good, not like this time. read more

Came here around 10:30pm. Went to a parking spot and pressed the red button for service, but one of the workers told me it's drive thru only. Got to the order speaker at 11pm just to find out they were OUT OF ICE CREAM AND MILKSHAKES. You guys could have mentioned that when I first tried to order. We love the refreshing Strawberry Limeade. Also Love their ice along w popcorn chicken, chicken slinger & route 44 size drink is their sweet tea. Monica the manager help assist with my order. She was very nice. Went today and only the drive thru was currently working. Stalls were closed. I've noticed this has been happening a few times I've visit. Anna the manager reached out to me after my initial review and sent me some coupons to encourage me to come back and give this location another shot. It took me awhile, but I finally made my way back over there and the service was much better. Glad to report that the slushee machine was back up and running! I'm writing this review purely on the tater tots and the rest of the options that just seemed mediocre. On the corner of this location, you can have McDonald's and In-N-out. Knowing that, you would think this location better step up their game. The opposite happened. Burgers looked smushed and had a over charbroiled taste you can from Burger King. Everything just tasted over cooked. Tater tots were super crispy... very over fried. I'm usually not this critical about this, and wanted the family to try something besides the other burger places, but somehow, this particular Sonics location get cooked it all. Mozzarella sticks... the entire time my family was saying how Arby's sticks were much better. These were like eating string cheese sticks, over fried, and didn't melt in your mouth. I also noticed the staff that exited the door and brought food to the other customers in the car stalls, that they would just open the door so abruptly that you can see the plaster and paint chips on the outside. I'm going to give the location 2 stars for the nostalgia. I would need to seriously reconsider coming back to this location unless they retrain the staff on how to prep the food and be more careful/have some pride in their work. read more

Brought my kids to try sonic for the first time, for a little something special, while my wife was away at a work conference. This was my 3rd time ever trying Sonic in my entire life, because there just weren't any near where I grew up or have ever lived. I know that they are famous for their drinks and my vague memory about the food was that it was just okay. Nevertheless, a milkshake for the kids was a fun idea, so I went for it. I pulled in to the lot, and there was quite a line. I eyed the outdoor patio, but didnt know how things worked, so I pulled into stall 25. After 2-3 minutes, we decided on what we wanted to order, so I pressed the button to be helped. The wait time was exhorbonant! The screen told me that someone would be with me soon, but I just kept waiting and waiting, WELL over 10 minutes. I kept my eyes glued to the screen and then abruptly, the notification about someone being with me soon disappeared. Was it so long that it TIMED OUT? I then had to depress the red button AGAIN. Once again, I waited. I am not talking a simple 3-5 minutes, but it took a solid 8 MORE minutes for someone to acknowledge me and take my order. The ordering process was great. The woman who took my order was friendly, didn't rush me, repeated my order back, and overall gave me very nice customer service. I asked if I could leave my car and take my kids over to the patio to eat as to avoid a mess in my car and she told me that would be no issue, so that's what we did. I have awarded 1 star for her! Little did I know that we would have to wait some MORE. It took 35 minutes for the food to arrive and at that point my kids were HANGRY. The young woman making the food deliveries was a sweet as sugar, so 1 star for her. The food: EHHHHH, totally not good. The fries probably took the cake for being the worst part of the meal. The burgers were absolutely average, the cheese (not the bread) on the grilled cheese was burnt, and the hot dog was presented very sloppily. Even the milkshakes (we tried strawberry, cookies N cream and peanut butter) were totally average, or even a tad below average, to be honest. The cherry limeade is my go to, but this location I can barely taste the time, but I did see a lime wedge inside. The tater tots is still good, but would prefer to have more than 2 ketchup packets. But we would soon discover that this was no ordinary afternoon jaunt to a local fast food establishment. Oh, no, dear reader... we were about to face a situation as unique as the flavor combination possibilities of a slush. What on earth would drive a man to write a review about a standard drive-in experience to purchase a frozen beverage. After all, dozens of times I'd made a similar trip - ordered via the Sonic app (for 1/2 price drinks all day, y'all) - and waited patiently for the carhop to bring my order to me. Always it was timely, always it was correct... and that didn't change on this fateful day... no. But something was definitely amiss. Welcome back, Matthew, the display read as I checked in... prompting the team inside to ready my order. It was simple - a large limeade and a medium limeade. Each customized to fit the palate of myself and my beloved. It didn't take long... and our world would soon be turned on it's head. A carhop approached. Out of consideration, I donned a mask. Safety first! Our interaction was brief - but left a lasting impression. She walked quickly, drinks on a tray, straws at the ready. As she approached I noticed she wore make-up. Silently, I wondered... was she wearing make-up on just the upper part of her face, or where her mask covered, too? How does one navigate that complication into the run of the mill getting ready routine of a trust Sonic worker? I rolled down my window, primed to receive the limeades balanced precariously. I read her nametag as she spoke. "Hi, welcome to Sonic. I'm your carhop, Jasmine. I have your large limeade and your medium limeade here." That was it - that was all she spoke - but my wife and I sat, stunned... that was all that needed to be said. I placed the drinks into cup holders, said thank you, confirmed I needed nothing else. She turned and walked away - I rolled up the window. Removed my mask. Turned to my wife. We both were in awe. "There's no way that was real," I said to her. My wife was shocked - still speechless. We'd both noticed something different about the normally ordinary spoken words of a carhop delivering items to a vehicle. Jasmine had just faked an extremely obvious, majorly drawn out, Southern accent. "Hah, welcome to Sahnic. Ahm your cahrhop, Jaysmihn. Ah haive your lahrge laaimaid and your meediam laaimaid heeah." We just stared at each other - not pulling our sedan out of our spot, not touching our drinks... just staring with amused grins at one another. Then, our minds started racing... "That was a fake accent, right?" "Why would she do that?" "Is she acting - maybe she's acting... like she is a CSUF drama student." "Maybe she's trying to mask a different accent." "Why... just why though?" "Is her name even Jasmine?" "Does she even work here?" "Maybe she just moved here from some Southern state..." "Does she try different voices with different customers? Or, is it always Southern?" "Does every worker try out different voices, or just her?" We sat there for far too long... we finally began sipping our drinks and I readied to leave the parking lot. The limeades were good, as per the usual from Sonic. But we were unsettled... and the mystery of the fake accented carhop puzzled us for the remainder of the day. "Is she actually Southern, but just bad at speaking?" "Like, does she get nervous? Is she trying to hide something?" "What happened in her life that would make her deceive strangers?" "What kind of life choices is Jasmine making? Why would anyone do this?" "That was definitely a fake accent, right?" All told. A fine experience - for a good price and we got exactly what we wanted. I'm pretty bummed with my experience today. The lady got my order wrong, set the stall to another one, then they didn't cook my food. I sat there waiting for 25 minutes before I had to go up to them & ask where my food was. Honestly, the food should've been free at that point. The only reason I'm giving this place one star is because my son liked his slush with nerds. It was our first time here. Came around 1:45 on a Saturday and it wasn't busy. We parked in a stall and ordered two #2 combos with tots and slushes. . It took over 30 minutes to get our food. I had to use the speaker button to try to remind someone we were still here and waiting for our food. It came out - room temp and not even warm. No napkins. No condiments.
