Went here since Samreen was closed and I should've went home. This place is unsanitary and the threader did a terrible job. No shape or definition, she just managed to clean up a few stray hairs. I have gone here in the pass for eyebrow threading and have always been satisfied. I was nervous about going just yet with everything going on( Pandemic). I decided to go today and am happy I did. The service was great. I love my eyebrows, but also when I walked in there was hand sanitizer at the door. There was 6ft separation signs on the floor and chairs positioned away from others, if someone else was present. There was someone in the chair when I arrived, but the chair was sprayed down and cleaned before my service began. Also the beautician had her mask on as did all customers that entered. First time in based off a friend's recommendation. I was pleased with the courtesy of the staff. I was greeted upon entry and had no wait suprisingly on a Friday early afternoon. I even secured a parking spot in front which can be difficult on this block. There is old school metered parking still in this stretch of business area so you will need quarters. The actual brow threading service took about 15min but it was well worth it. No pain and the cost was very inexpensive. Compared to another place I frequent in center city, the quality of service was the same but in CC its 3x more expensive. Needless to say I will be back! S/N This is not a traditional salon. What in the world is this store? It's a dive salon with clothes jewelry and things all over the place. The eyebrow station is filthy and unsanitary. I went here because I was desperate and it showed up on google and I made a huge mistake. My eyebrows haven't looked this terrible in years. The other reviewers are right, she makes ur eyebrows super thin. Although I have light eyebrows I've never had anyone remove so much hair. I just let her finish cuz I wanted to get out of there as soon as I can. Now I have to wait months to grow out my eyebrows. I GOT PINK EYE AFTER MY FIRST VISIT! NEVER EVER had pink eye in my life, suffer from no allergies, and after getting the worst threading of my life, I now have to walk around with a pink eye for the next two weeks. God is punishing me for being so cheap, and not wanting to fork over the 10$ at shanti medical spa!! The woman who did my eyebrows messed them up. In fact, that's an understatement. My eyebrows are slightly different (one has more of a natural arch) and the woman who did my eyebrows tried to make them look the same. Love this place! Located in the diverse Millbourne/Upper Darby area, it was a really great find for me, a Penn student on a budget who regularly needs her eyebrows done!! It's accessible on the Market Frankford Line (get off at Millbourne) or bus 21. You technically should make an appointment, but most of the time for me, this means calling and asking if I can come in 20 minutes. The answer has never been no! When you enter the store, you first see all of the glittery selvars and kurtas and bridal knicknacks. There's manicure table near the window in front of the TV which usually has some Hindi serial on. However, When you get your eyebrows done, one of the women working takes you into the chairs at the back of the store where there's a mini parlor area where they'll thread you. They generally do a great job, quick with as little pain as possible. As I said, the store also sells jewelry, clothing for weddings, mehendi cones, and various other beauty stuff you could probably also find in Upper Darby in the various Indian/Bangladeshi fashion shops. Everyone is really nice, and they even let me wait inside for the bus. Sonia herself is very professional, so long as you don't ask her about Ruby's Beauty parlor two stores down :P Basically, I am very fond of this place because it reminds me of those little parlors in India, and for prices this cheap, you don't have to look anywhere else! read more

I take the market frankford B train and get off at millbourne - and then just walk up and its on the corner. My eye brows are always perfect. The materials are simple, (thread & scissors) the ladies know exactly what to do, because it is in their blood & culture. Waxing is also available, but the threading is what is sensational. Threading is a method of hair removal, that has been passed down from generation to generation, and it is effective! The prices are very affordable. For example, $5.00 for eyebrows threading and upper lip, and I tip a few extra bucks to show appreciation. Ms. Sonia is open 7 days a week. The shop closes at 8pm and women and men from all walks of life come and go for the most stunning of brows in all of Philadelphia. Also, Ms. Sonia advised me to use olive oil (regular extra virgin olive oil) on my brows nightly for fuller, thicker brows and it has worked! Ladies, if you prefer an arch; come with a bit of brow pencil already on and Ms. Sonia will create the arch based on the line of how the brows are penciled. This place is very unsanitary and the owner can be tricky, she'll sell her stuff wayy over priced but if you know that then she'll bargin with you. I heard from former workers that she lies about her facials - she'll charge you for her "top" facials when in the back she tells her workers to use the cheaper brand since your eyes are closed you'll never know. It's a good place to go for montly maintance without the high rates but there's also a price your paying with sanitation. I've been going for years only because her rates are good but my favorite eyebrow lady left : ( Overall good place for cheap maintance. Do not get waxing done here esp brazilian - the owner has a tendency to NEVER deny service even if she doesn't know how to do it which is what she does with the brazilian wax. I got bruised badly wasn't even worth it she did a very sloppy job cause she doesn't know what she's doing. Sonia's is a really cute but rough around the edges salon where you can buy beautiful Indian garb, get a blow out, manicure, body waxing and threading done at prices for wallets that are on a diet. This was my first experience and I had my eyebrows threaded and legs waxed. Let me tell you...two totally different experiences. First up, brows. I had been letting them grow in for a few weeks now and because there's absolutely no way I'd show up to any outing in a beautiful dress with furry caterpillars across my face as the accessories, I had to let her at them . But my instructions were clear and simple - do not over arch them, they still need to fill in so just clean them up. And she did just that! Magnifique and gold stars for listening. Next...full leg waxing. All I have to say is OUCH, dammit! And I'm so glad I opted against letting her do the full monte. The wax was way too hot and she just continued to snatch the wax papers straight up. UImmmm....maam....you're hurting me. When she was done, the results were good enough and one week later, the aftermath isn't as bad as I'd predicted. However, I will keep you posted. Price tag on this number: $3 for eyebrows + 35 for full leg = $38 hot wax threading torture and because beauty is sometimes painful and I've never seen brow threading for $3, this was money well spent! read more

I think it needs to be said that the salon is a HOLE IN THE WALL. So, be prepared for that. Do not come expecting a western-style salon or spa experience or if you have a problem with health code violations. And, as Jennifer S. said, don't look around closely! So why do I keep coming back? Well, it's DIRT CHEAP! And services are performed quickly and well (meaning they wax you fast - I can't stand it when waxers/threaders poke at me for a long time). Full arm wax + threading for eyebrows, lip, and chin for $29. Would cost no less than $60 at the cheapest place in the city. And it's easily reached by 21 or 42 bus or MFL. I'm not sure if they do appointments; I've just strolled in a few times after 5 pm on weekdays and haven't had to wait very long. I've gotten my eyebrows and upper lip done here by a few different women, all of whom were quick, gentle (well, comparatively so. I think threading is kind of inherently painful, but these women are experienced enough to know the techniques that minimize it), and actually listened when it mentioned the shape and thickness I wanted. The location is not fancy, but it's dirt cheap and super conveniently located. I have 0 complaints and will be back often. read more

I came in with a natural bushy arch and only wanted to clean up the stray hairs but she literally took off 50% off my hair! My brows are now so thin and she even managed to pull off extra hair leaving my brows uneven. The salon is a dive and not clean. They double dip and use the same wax and stick on your face, that they have used to wax someone else's underarms. If you want to contract something nasty, go to Sonia Beauty Place! I will NEVER go there again. I would rather pay more and go next door to Ruby's, at least they treat you professionally and are clean. Sure Sonia charges $3 for eye brows which is very reasonable, but you get what you pay for. Sonia does not know what the heck she is doing, she cut my skin from over-threading! She missed several hairs which I could see in the mirror but should couldn't until she put on her glasses. She proceeded to thread the hairs she missed but was pissed because she was in a hurry to finish up as she was hungry! Seriously?? While threading my brows, her thread kept breaking, and the part that was in her mouth would flick out and land of my face! EWW! So gross! If you do go in there just to get eyebrows done, then don't expect to get treated well because you are not spending a lot of money. She keeps trying to sell her services to you while you're there and if you don't go for the other services she bad mouths you to the other clients. She does not like clients who don't spend more money. In fact I heard her bad mouthing some clients to the other clients. That is bad business! She also has high employee turnover coz she treats her staff badly too. I would avoid this place altogether. There are many other salons in the area that are much better. read more
