The birds are extremely stressed out, not enough room at the minimum!! they have a HUGE parrot in a TINY cage. Koi "tank" is literally a kid pool with a MOP HEAD in it. the tortoises have absolutely NO enrichment or space either they looked so sad. the rabbits looked sick and had NO room. the people that work there are nice but they need to do BETTER. these are animals you need to provide for, you cannot call yourself a pet store and your animals in YOUR care are suffering. someone shut this place down. read more

Before making a purchase especially at locations such as this do your own research and don't just listen to whoever... It's been confirmed by my "well known" vet that companies in general including something fishy pets commit fraud when their employee's give false information regarding the birds age, health, and sex! The living conditions of the animals are appalling. With the quantity they have, I can see how it would be too much without proper staffing. The store was incredibly dirty(poop, supplies, merchandise, and garbage everywhere and anywhere), the birds were extremely stressed or depressed and dirty, there's no way the fish tanks were balanced based on the smell of the water. Many of the aquatics had ich and other notable fungal issues. It truly broke my heart. read more

We were appalled that we were charged double $2 each hornworm that's $24 for 12 hornworms which is ridiculously expensive!!! We live about a half hour away and the pet shop in our area charge's half per worm $1 each, wow!!! read more

Stopped by to take a look at a hedgehog. I had never seen one in person but found them super cute. They helped me get used to him, allowed me to touch him and explained how to take care of him. It took me about 1hr to feel safe to take him home. I don't regret a minute of it! Mike is so spoiled in our house. He is cuter than I thought. Very well behaved, easy to care for. If I could give it 0 stars I would. A lot of the reptiles and animals in general are not in great shape and way overpriced. For example, the guinea pigs I've seen scabs on and fungal infections and underweight reptiles. This also being said, the owner Ron gives incorrect reptile care advice like how ball pythons (solitary animals) can be housed together and that bearded dragons can have pellet food (can cause dehydration and possible impaction). Pretty said when a chain petstore has better care than a mom and pop shop. read more

I have had salt water reef tanks for 22 years. These guys know their stuff. They know what is supposed to happen they know how to find and fix issues. They can design new systems or help u tweak yours. They are Also experts in birds - of many different types. They even pet sit birds. How cool is that? This is a terrible pet store, I saw a bearded dragon with a bloody mangled foot that was infected and had not been treated for a long time. The cage he was in was disgusting and full of feces with no bedding or a log to bask on. Whoever owns something fishy definitely does not take pride in there work and dosent take care of there animals, I hope they get shut down and if you like animals then I would stay away from this pet store. I have been going to Something Fishy for over 10 years. I have bought food, fish, coral, all kinds of things from that store. Not once have I been given incorrect information. Not once have I seen an animal in poor health. And every time I am in that store, I see the owner giving advice after free advice to anyone and everyone, just trying to help and be a good guy. I think the only thing I have not purchased from him is a dog. But I have friends that have and they have never had issues. I know their instructions with their dogs are exactly what every other pet stores are and I also know they stand behind everything they sell a hell of a lot more than petsmart, petco, or anywhere else I have been. Great place to shop. I have learned a ton from Ron and feel like a special customer everytime I enter his store. I will never personally go anywhere else. read more

I drove 50 minutes to this place because they were a register Tropica plant dealer but didn't have any for sale.

I love this pet store! The owner is amazing! My dog has tons of allergies and has to be on a special diet, when I called the pet store about 3 years ago and asked them if they carried Taste of the Wild dog food (one of the only dog foods my dog isn't allergic to) they said they did not carry it. After I explained my situation with my dog and the quality of Taste of the Wild dog food the owner actually started carrying the food brand! He always has it in-stock for me and every time I go into the store he remembers me and helps bring the big bag of dog food to my car. I also know that they carry puppies here and I know they are not from puppy mills. They also let the puppies out of the cages a lot and roam around the store so they aren't coped up all day. This is a very reputable establishment and Fox Lake is lucky to have a quality pet store so close to home. read more

I have been going here for a couple years and its always fun to walk around and see all of their exotic animals. The staff is very friendly and personable, you can't find the same level of staff personabilty in any of the chain pet stores. In regards to the person who gave this store a one star, I have never seen puppy's treated so well as this place. I would never get a puppy from pet land because they are isolated and kept in cagesall the time. At Something Fishy, they let their puppies socialize together during down time. I know because i am there frequent enough. Definitely a fun place to be! read more

So knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions you have! I'm a fan of this place, not gonna lie! I know it's been there for years, and the age of the store shows... but, these people are super awesome, very friendly and they know their stuff! I just started going here a little over a year ago as I recently got into the fish hobby. I wish it was closer to were I live. Prices aren't horrible, you still can find some fish a little cheaper at Petsmart, but personally the quality is better in my opinion. So it's worth it! Started going here when I bought my first fish tank & didn't know the first thing to do. The staff were very knowledgable & helped me figure out what I needed. The owner is usually there when I go, he's always friendly & answers all of my questions honestly (no matter how silly they are). After a few visits for my fish i continued coming for my dog needs, they carry our dogs food in the big breeder bags & we love supporting small/local businesses. But the real reason I choose to drive 2 towns over & spend my money here is because they no longer sell puppies and try to support shelters. There's nothing bad I could possibly say about this pet store. Ron is an incredible man and his staff is just as great. Each person there knows their sh** and they are very honest people. Not to mention you get a bang for your buck here. They won't try and sell you anything that is sick, in fact they segregate those animals so that the other animals don't get sick. My family has bought PLENTY of pets from something fishy and each and every one of them lived full term. If you are somebody that rates this place one star saying "I wouldn't give this place any stars" then you are one sad human being. Each and every pet in this store is loved until it finds its forever home. These people work very very hard to keep each and every animal happy. In fact, I'll bet you that every time you walk into this store you'll see an employee holding a different animal. Except Tim. I have always had a good experience when I go in. They are very knowledgeable about birds. They have open arms to stray animals and do not euthanize any of them. Prices are kind of high but everything else is always amazing. They treat my bird like their own when she gets her wings clipped. read more

For anyone with a salt water tank, just know that they are pretty much they are selling us Fox Lake water. I am very disappointed in this Something Fishy, that they knowingly sell poor water to salt water enthusiasts who put lots of time, work and money to have a beautiful aquarium. A local shop is nice but they don't change their filters for RO water. After starting to use their water, my anemone closed up never to open again and eventually died, All of my beautiful corals died, 1 clownfish died and my purple tang is ill (white face). Not even a day after a water change my rocks (now coral-less) turn a bright unnatural green, brown algae is instantly over my glass and the back wall. I recently went to a trusted fish store tested the Something Fishy "RO Water" and it was proven that Something Fishy water is of horrible quality. read more
