What a gem! I don't recall shopping here before. I was greeted by a super kind lady who asked if I had been there before. I said no and she invited me to follow her for a quick tour. They have a lot of local artist pieces and recycled items. Their card section is a treat and full of satirical messaging. Some cards are for adult eyes only. I am absolutely smitten with Something Different. My biggest regret is that I didn't stop in sooner. Seriously, had I known how fabulous it was, I would have been saving the run around for gifts and doing it all here. To begin, the owner, Koula is absolutely lovely. She offered me a glass of wine, was extremely welcoming, and her husband even offered to run out to my car and put an extra quarter in my meter! This store is gorgeous and you can spend a lot of time lost in here. Koula has partnerships with several local artists and displays their products beautifully throughout the store. Its so hard to describe her inventory, because everything is so special and unique! I purchased a delicious smelling Honeybee soap, 3 bright colored scarves, and a Starry Night umbrella. Koula also does gift-wrapping-- and while I told her my items were just for me, she still packaged them neatly with cute ribbon. You can literally find everything here, ranging from high-end art, to affordable and unique jewelry to artisan salt and pepper shakers. And if you can't find a beautiful and classy gift here, you can't find it anywhere. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention their wedding selection! I was so happy to report to my friends (a gay couple), that they had cake toppers for his wedding! Really stylish ones, nonetheless. I've been following this Gallery since it was located on Memphis many years ago. Koula and her husband are the best proprietors, both make you feel so welcome and at ease while shopping. I've bought everything from wall art to unisex perfume, jewelry and cards and clothing. This store is where I come to relax and browse get ideas to rejuvenate some space in my house. Oh my gosh. I stumbled in here one day in a desperate stupor to find a gift for my mom. It was clearly fate, written in the stars, that I found this shop that I've walked past so many times before. First, I have to speak to the product offering. It is so cool....candles, soaps, novelties, gifts, apparel, scarves, jewelry, cards, glassware, artwork, and oodles more. I disagree with Amy. I am a 20-something, I could have stayed in here all day, not only shopping for myself, but shopping for anyone and everyone! Ultimately, I left with a birthday gift for my mom, a Christmas gift for my sister (yep...I bought a Christmas gift in August), and a vase for moi. I wanted to get so much more but my wallet was bleeding out. The prices aren't cheap, but I haven't seen some of this stuff anywhere else. Next, I have to talk about the staff, which for me makes or breaks my opinion of a business. They were so, so lovely, especially the owner. I felt like I was visiting some sleepy town where everyone knows your name and treats you like family. She treated me like a friend and painstakingly gift wrapped some of my gifts and bubble-packed others for the plane ride they would have to endure that day. These ladies are the best! Every time I walk in there, they make me feel welcome. I especially love going in there this time of year because of all of the Christmas ornaments hanging from the ceiling. You never know what you'll find. I've gotten a wrap, mugs, chocolates and tonight I got myself a new hat. They were even nice enough to give my husband and I a house warming gift. A cute house ornament. George and Koula are the kindest people you will ever meet. They are genuine, caring and offer a wide variety of amazing goods - many by local artists. This studio never ceases to blow my mind. Now, I know what you're going to say...."Jennifer, did you ever really have a mind to begin with?" Yes. Yes I did. And it was blown away by Something Different. It looks, from the exterior like the usual kitschy sort of place that your mother might take you, but it is far more than that. The art is local and gorgeous, the glass work will make your jaw drop, and the little odd and ends for home decor will make you squeal and jump up and down where you stand, clap your hands, and grin like a fool. On the downside, the prices will make you pinch your pennies for weeks until you can afford what you want (or you may, like me, just come and visit your favorite paintings until someone buys them and you feel like someone kidnapped your best friend). The owner is really what seals the deal on this place. She has a memory like an elephant, is the most gracious woman I've quite possibly ever met, and treats my sister and I like we just pulled up outside in a chauffeured Rolls-Royce and body guards. I've bought lots of little home decor items here, mostly as presents (and all on the lower end of the price scale), but if I ever win the lottery, this is the place that will decorate my home. read more

This is a little hidden gem of a shop in Ohio City. We were walking the neighborhood and just popped in. The shop owner is a delight! Very sweet woman and is wonderful to chat with. I alwasy imagined his bedroom looked like a soap opera set...rich paisleys with matchy-matchy curtains. He was frugal but didn't mind spending more for something of quality. My absolute favorite shop in all of Cleveland! Most amazing staff. Most amazing items. Go at Christmas, it is becoming my tradition, they hang ornaments from the ceiling starting black Friday. You go in pick out your ornament and they cut it down for you and box it up in pretty wrapping. True Gem. As a note, the prices are pretty high- and certainly out of my price range but 2 christmases ago I picked out several handmade BEAUTIFUL ornaments. The owner was there as I admired three and finally decided I could only justify spending that much money on two ornaments and would have to leave the last one for someone else. He noticed this and cut the 3rd down and gave it to me for free. I can't always afford all the items I want but there are not many stores that truly appreciate your patronage this way anymore. If I am going to spend money id prefer to spend it supporting a local treasure like this one. read more

I was looking for a gift for my Mom's 60th birthday and the owner showed personally showed me around asking what my mom likes and showed me gifts that were tailored to her interest. I wanted to share this because we were so touched by the owner's gesture: We were walking back to our parked car after Ingenuity Fest, but Something Different was closed, so my husband, two young children and I stood outside admiring the window display. The kids oohed and aahed for a while, and then we moved on. The owner called to us as we walked down the street and said he had something for us. We went back, and he said that he noticed the kids looking in the window, so he gave them some wind-up, light-up Halloween toys. As an aside, I told my sister about this, and she said that her husband has gotten her some great jewelry from this shop over the years.
