Great instructors. My daughters were able to learn swimming in a reasonable time, and one of them was able to become a life guard.

At Strength and Honor Fitness, it will make you drool, sweat in places that you didn't know can sweat, AND just as a caution, you probably don't want to eat an hour before coming for a session here or else you might find your meal beautifully displayed on the ground. This is the perfect gym to kick your butt into shape! I have a love-hate relationship with this place. I wonder why I put myself through, the gym owner and instructor, Matt Keller's ever creative personal hell... But when the results begin to show, I know it's all worth it to suck up the pain, so I won't have to suck it in later when I'm wearing that gorgeous dress! I say, give it a try. He even offers a free evaluation session to let you see what the class is like and if you're up for the challenging classes. There's nothing for you to lose, maybe, except for a couple of pounds!

About 45 minutes of pure hell but the results speak for themselves. He also has a beginner class for the ones who are not quite ready for complete torture. People are great! Equipment is top notch and Matt... a magician that finds new methods and equipment endlessly... every day its something different. Never ever the same workout over the past six years! Nuff said.

I am mentioning the competition because I see great gyms like this having to compete with gimmicky places that are not at all conserved with fitness (see one of 100+ videos on YouTube about this). They clientele ranges from people who are totally out of shape to Elite athletes. The great thing about the severely out of shape clientele is that they don't stay that way for long (awesome). I heard someone talking about how being in the Gold's Gym Bridgewater environment really helped then get in shape, a place where people mind there own business but are totally willing to help if asked. The member had previously been at "Planet Fitness" and had no access to any real guidance and were (literally) fed pizza at this Walmart of Fitness (the high cost of low price). It is this conversation I had with a member that made me think to compare and contrast these businesses with VERY different motives again, look up Planet Fitness on YouTube, if it sounds like I have something against them it's because I do, I don't like seeing people getting mislead and taken advantage of. A true nurturing environment is one where people who are competitive bodybuilders/true athletes are totally willing to (if asked) to help out anyone who asks and those that are new are welcomed by the training staff and members alike, just a great vibe. I myself came in pretty out of shape and in a few months I am on my way back to being in great shape, I attribute a lot of this to the top-notch equipment and pleasant environment of this gym. The environment/energy of a place like this is extremely important because you have to A) want to be there and B) feel motivated while you are, do not underestimate this, it is a huge reason that if you want to look good, great or totally ripped you need to be comfortable and motivated in a place that is serious about your fitness.

Coach Tansey was a bundle of energy and kept the class motivated thru the 60 minutes. Great way to get the year started. There wasn't anyone at the desk for 25 minutes because the lady that was supposed to help me check in was actively working out in what I assume was the 5am class. Once she finally arrived at the desk and I was sitting right in front of her, she barely acknowledged me. I walked up to the desk and she just told me to write my name down. I told her it was my first time there and she pointed in different directions to quickly explain where the amenities. Unfortunately, there was minimal effort to help someone attending their first class at this studio. Additionally, I had a simple email issue that their help desk needed to resolve so I could finally book my additional classes. Ultimately, I had to call multiple times and ask for the reference number of the ticket so I could resolve the issue myself. I'll give 2 stars because the coaches I've experienced (Amy, Becca, Brett, and Brendan) all had great classes. I was hoping for the best, but I will not be returning to OTF somerville.

They also offer child supervision in a large play room which is good for those with kids - so no excuses for you stay at home mom's and couch potato dad's. The place is three floors. The locker rooms are on the second floor along with a spin class room. Half way up is another room. It's under utilized at the moment but I guess it could be used for stretching or other calisthenics. Then up on the third floor is the main gym. Has a good variety of free weights, machines, and cardio. There is a cardio movie room which is sweet , they Change the movie every day and the the movies do get recycled but it seems long enough before you get bored. Recently they played Grown Ups, fast and furious (the latest one), and the internship. The dumbbells go up to 115+ which is great and there are many flat and interchangeable benches. Some machines they are missing are the standing leg curl and hack squat. Seems to be commonly absent especially since a lot of people skip leg day. The general upkeep is good. I've rarely ever seen machine broken for longer than one day, but the supplies in the locker room like hand soap tends to always be empty. I'd say about 20% of the time there was actually soap in the dispenser (this is way I can't give it 5 stars. That and the three floors set up is a bit awkward).

The team helped me with some important stretching I could handle but my brain needed a nutrition & lifestyle reeducation to help me beat Diabetes and be prepared to strengthen my body. I was temporarily in a wheelchair and Karen ran over to bring me a container of protein powder shake mix. This helped contain my sugar reading swings but I needed more intervention with my diet. Karen & I surfed the web to find a program that meets my needs. In just a few days, my sugar readings are at a consistent in range that I haven't seen ever in 10 years as a diabetic. Now I'm 2 weeks into this shift in lifestyle. I'm walking a whole lot better, Anthony is building back my strength, we are discussing how to maintain this progress when I travel on business. Life is complicated. I knew I was not going to succeed by myself. Karen and Anthony really care about their clients and in a few short months I'm in a direction I thought I'd never see. My Endocrinolgist was happy surprised at my levels and thinks this direction will absolutely impact reducing my very high A1C. So, bottom line, LFTD Fitness is a great team. Very inclusive. Meet people in similar challenges. It's 1000x better to have a coach vs a gym membership for $9.99 a month. Get results when you work with LFTD Fitness
