DISCLAIMER: This review is solely based on front desk staff and management, not the actual equipment or group classes. I'll update my review on the group classes once I start taking classes regularly. Also, I VERY RARELY leave poor reviews (check my other posts) so when I choose to post a 1-star review, it's just disappointing. I was most recently a member at Life Time in Bridgewater using the GymPass program discount through my health insurance. I LOVED Life Time, but it was changed to the next GymPass tier up which is $220/month instead of the $112/month I was previously paying. I didn't want to pay the new and more expensive monthly premium, so I downgraded to the Basic tier (less than $50/month for access to multiple gyms in the same tier) which includes this Gold's Gym location. That's why I'm here now. I came to Gold's around 5pm last Monday. A man at the front desk (Joe I think?) signed me up for a membership. He was nice and professional. He warned me that I wouldn't have access to the app (where I can book reservations for group classes) until the manager Mary came in on Thursday that week because she needed to give me access on her end because of GymPass. He told me that in the meantime, I can call 24 hours before the class I wanted to take and they'd sign me up for it over the phone. I told him I wanted to sign up for the 5:30pm class for the following evening. He told me to write down my name and phone number and that he'd include me in the class even though I was there around 5pm - which I thought was nice and accommodating (remember: you can't book a spot in a group class until 24 hours beforehand). He said, "don't worry about calling for tomorrow - just show up to the group class, scan your barcode, and they'll let you in no problem". Cool. I got there for the 5:30 class the next day, and the lady who was checking everyone in said that the guy never signed me up and the class was already full with a waitlist. I went over to the front desk of the main gym and the same guy I spoke to the day before told me "you were supposed to call to book because you can't book before the 24-hour window" despite him telling me the day before that I wouldn't have to for that day and that he'd book my reservation for me. Annoying. I called on Sunday to find out what hours Mary would be in, but no one was able to tell me. I called again yesterday (Monday) and left a message with a guy at the front desk to have Mary call me back, but she didn't. I called back later that day and finally got a hold of her. She booked tonight's 5:30pm class for me over the phone and told me to come in before the class to get my membership situated. I asked her if I could come between 4:45-5pm and she said she'd be there. I arrived at the gym shortly before 5pm and of course...she wasn't there. If the manager herself says she'll be there at a specific time and even she doesn't show up, that just reflects so much on the facility itself and how much the management values its members' time. I've worked at gyms in the past while I was still in college, both as front desk staff and as a kickboxing instructor, but I've never encountered such unprofessionalism and poor follow through at a gym before. I don't want to say "you get what you pay for", but in this case for communication and management, it's true. read more

By far THE ABSOLUTE best gym I have EVER been too. Not only is the atmosphere warm and friendly but it is a place where they having everything from the weekend warrior to IFBB pros.....the owner is great and he takes meticulous care of the equipment, constantly INVESTING in the new equipment, new classes, and truly caring about the quality of your gym experience. I am 53 years old and have been going to gyms since I was 14 and this is truly a place where old school meets the latest and greatest that there is to offer. read more

WATCH OUT BEFORE YOU SIGN UP- IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF CONTRACT DESPITE COVID CONCERNS AND A MOVE I'll start by saying that I have been a Gold's member for several years. I even came back after covid and voted for them to be best gym in Bridgewater. Despite this, they are unwilling to work with me AT ALL. I moved a significant distance away while my membership was frozen due to covid- however, the owner is unwilling to work with me at all to cancel my membership despite my move because of the same reason a prior reviewer mentioned. I even offered to pay a cancellation fee to try to work with them, but despite this, Mary has ignored my email and is refusing to work with me. It's pretty crazy honestly. I have also had a new concern with the masks coming off but was told it doesn't qualify for a cancellation. Mind you, OrangeTheory in Somerville was more than happy to help me with cancelling for the same reason despite me having a contract with them. There was no push back and they completely understood. (I highly recommend OrangeTheory. The customer service is exceptional) Long story short, you'd think that all things considered (covid, move, long time member) that management would be willing to work with me a little more- but NOPE. Not one bit. Extremely disappointed in what I had previously thought was a quality place who valued their members. Pretty clear that they care more about $41/month (it went up) than working with long time members and putting customer service first. read more

BEWARE- not worth the headache. Before you sign up, make sure you understand that they are willing to lure you into signing up based on false or misleading information and then make it impossible for you to cancel. Prior to signing up, I expressed concern to the gym employee that I may have to relocate to garwood sometime within the next year and I was worried I wouldn't be able to get out of the contract. I was assured that my move would justify termination of my contact. 6 months later, I moved 40 minutes away from the gym and I attempted to cancel my membership. I was told that I didn't move far enough away from the gym to cancel and will have to continue paying my membership until June 2020, meanwhile I haven't stepped foot in the gym since July 2019, nor do I want to after being a victim of their deceptive and illegal sale tactics. The system they use to calculate mileage uses a linear distance between the two points that doesn't take into account the actual route I would need to travel from my new house to get there. *Nowhere in the contract does it specify that this is how the distance is calculated. NO I don't have a helicopter to get there in a straight line and NO it is not realistic to travel 40 minutes to work out every day. I will be filing a formal complaint with the BBB and NJDCA as well as contacting my lawyer. I will also be sure to advise my friends and family in Bridgewater that they are better off signing up at the Zoo or LifeTime. read more

Top notch gym. Great people and unlike the bizarrely left wing "Planet Fitness" this place is truly "Judgement Free" (Planet Fitness tagline). I am mentioning the competition because I see great gyms like this having to compete with gimmicky places that are not at all conserved with fitness (see one of 100+ videos on YouTube about this). They clientele ranges from people who are totally out of shape to Elite athletes. The great thing about the severely out of shape clientele is that they don't stay that way for long (awesome). I heard someone talking about how being in the Gold's Gym Bridgewater environment really helped then get in shape, a place where people mind there own business but are totally willing to help if asked. The member had previously been at "Planet Fitness" and had no access to any real guidance and were (literally) fed pizza at this Walmart of Fitness (the high cost of low price). It is this conversation I had with a member that made me think to compare and contrast these businesses with VERY different motives again, look up Planet Fitness on YouTube, if it sounds like I have something against them it's because I do, I don't like seeing people getting mislead and taken advantage of. A true nurturing environment is one where people who are competitive bodybuilders/true athletes are totally willing to (if asked) to help out anyone who asks and those that are new are welcomed by the training staff and members alike, just a great vibe. I myself came in pretty out of shape and in a few months I am on my way back to being in great shape, I attribute a lot of this to the top-notch equipment and pleasant environment of this gym. The environment/energy of a place like this is extremely important because you have to A) want to be there and B) feel motivated while you are, do not underestimate this, it is a huge reason that if you want to look good,great or totally ripped you need to be comfortable and motivated in a place that is serious about your fitness. read more

I love this gym!!! I have been a member from the beginning. The personal trainers, the group instructors and the front desk are all amazing! The gym is clean and the equipment are all new. The owners Mary and Rob have put their heart into this business and do everything to enhance the gym. I mostly do team training ( strength training with up to 6 members) with personal trainer Kelly Sumba and found excellent results. I also take group cardio classes and yoga classes at the GGX studio( very spacious and clean) and enjoy them a lot. I highly recommend this gym, its the best in this neighborhood. They also have great protein shakes!!! read more

Gold's Gym in Bridgewater, NJ is a great gym located in a small business center. They have a plenty of options to meet all of your fitness needs. Cardio - they have treadmills, bikes, stair masters and ellipticals etc. Weights - there are machines for every muscle group, free weight, kettle bells, chains etc Classes - Spin, Yoga and more They have a room for functional fitness and Crossfit style workouts. As well as tires outside and basketball hoop. The staff and trainers are nice and involved. Most importantly they keep it clean. read more

This gym is like my safe haven. Made some friends who actually care. This gym gives me that at home feeling. If you go there , block everyone else out. Dnt go there to meet or hook up go there for you your life will have endless possibilities! !! If you have bad anxiety, mental illness the gym is the cure. Def if you can afford a trainer ask for Charlie or Kristen. You can hold me to this too. Yea it was hard in the beginning but I wasn't focused on looking like her or him . I was focused on ME. I'm addicted and , again I truly feel cared about by the staff member's who I have gotten to known. Please I know it's so scary. If you cnt afford a trainer and are scared to do it alone ask for help message me and I would be happy to help. Also , make sure you dnt just sign up for any trainer. It's LIKE A Relationship IN a way. You both need to be on the same page and, you need to have a connection with them. Disclaimer: This review is mainly of the classes I've been a member of this gym since August 2013 - I had recently moved into the area and was looking for a gym with lots of classes. Given that there are a lot of gyms in the area the main draw for me was the fact they had Body Pump. This gym has plenty of classes at different times with many different instructors. I've taken everything from the Monday night strength class, to spinning with pretty much every instructor, BodyPump, Zumba, and IntenSati.Haven't made it to any yoga, but that's probably on the horizon! I highly recommend this gym if you're looking for a good facility with a great variety of classes. For $35/month you get a great variety of group workouts plus facilities for days you just feel like being a hamster on the treadmill. The classes can be pretty packed during their peak hours, so I recommend getting there early. There used to be an issue getting a spot in their spinning classes so they required that you call 24 hours in advance to reserve. Although some thought this was annoying, I know many gyms that do the same. Now they ordered more bikes and expanded their spinning room to accommodate for the increased amount of patrons! -1 star because they only have 2 showers, the locker rooms aren't the best, and they close too early on Sundays. read more

Woohoo! I was so excited to find out there was a new Gold's Gym near me as I just moved to NJ from Los Angeles and am used to the Gold's in VB. What a great facility. I am very particular about the cleanliness of where I am getting my sweat on and was pleased to see everything is well maintained, clean, and not broken! I was immediately greeted by a friendly fellow by the name of John who was very attentive and able to answer all of my questions. (As I said, I am rather particular.) I am a bit of a Spin diva so I was really excited to try out a class. **IMPORTANT** be sure to sign up asap as the classes are in high demand I was informed, you'll see why! My instructor Denise was so much fun! Great music, great class, but still challenging, and just overall, FUN! I can't wait to try out some more classes as they have a lot to offer that I never tried out in California. Great, clean facility. Friendly, attentive, and fun staff. Lots of classes to choose from. Great staff, huge selection of well maintained equipment, extremely clean and multiple class offerings; what else could you want. Well, I do need someone to get me there but that's up to the person in the mirror. Every class is run by an enthusiastic and experienced teacher/trainer. The variety of choices will meet almost any training plan. The variety of equipment will challenge body builders to work every muscle and includes all of the basics for beginners or the average person looking to get in shape. A nice feature is ability to get help with any machine you are not familiar with use, either a trainer or other staff, a scan code for a short video or one of the other friendly members. The owners are local, in the building often and easy to approach if you have any questions or concerns. This is truly a local business and the people there will get to know you and do what they can to make the workout better for you. I can't say enough nice things about the staff and how willing they are to help but will also stay out of your way if that is what you prefer. Even when the gym is busy, there is always room for you to workout maybe not on the exact machine you want at the split second you want it but there has never been a time that I couldn't find open equipment that I was going to use for that day's training plan. This is hands down the best gym I've ever belonged to, and I've gone to a bunch around NJ! It is clean, really well kept up and the people are really friendly. I mostly do the group fitness classes, specifically Body Pump (the best!), spinning and sprint (Laurie is honestly the best, I don't know what Id ever do if she left). The group fitness room is brand new looking and wonderful. My only constructive criticism (very minor) is that I wish they had Body Pump two nights a week! Right now it is only on Tuesday night and Saturday morning, but I cant always make it on Saturdays. I have heard a few people express this as well. Otherwise this is the best gym ever and if anyone lives or works near it, I highly recommend it! read more

Everything is great, but I really wish the facility would open up to their normal hours. Staying open only until 3 on weekends is extremely inconvenient and the hour intermission to clean during the weekdays is another inconvenience. Why isn't child care open? I really did not want to resort to writing a negative review for golds gym as I was hoping Mary would resolve our issue but I feel like I need to WARN NEW MEMBERS of DECEITFUL business practices when enrolling new members. My husband has been a member of golds gym for many many years without any complaints. Given his recommendation, I signed up as well. When I signed up for the membership I MADE SURE to tell the rep that we were possibly looking for new jobs and may be relocating. She assured me my membership was a month to month basis (like my husbands) and I can cancel anytime given it was 30 days prior. I signed the paperwork and happily went along my way. Fast forward a few months later when I tried to cancel my membership- I was informed by the gym I would have to email Mary or send a registered letter. Fine, no big deal. I emailed Mary and she sent me a link to cancel my membership. The link would not work and when I inquired further Mary told me I was locked into a 18 month contract! I, in NO WAY would have ever signed the contract knowingly under a 18 month contact! Either I was MISLED or LIED to upon sign in. When I told Mary this she responded with 'I am confident that she explained the membership' So this means I Am lying??? On a side note- my husband had no issues canceling his membership as we was on a month to month basis. Why would I sign up for a 18 month when he was on a month to month? So now I am left paying the remainder of my contract, another 6 months when I have absolutely no intention of going. Deceitful and dishonest business practices. I don't think this is the worst gym in the area but I don't think it's that great. I found it ridiculously cramped. They pack in all the equipment they possibly can but then it's hard to spread out and stretch. I shared my concerned with the owner (Mary?) in the suggestion box and she left me a message saying that if I was unhappy with the gym then I could cancel at anytime. This is the best gym I have ever trained at. Period. And I've been training for 15+ years all over New Jersey, from hardcore bodybuilding gyms to mainstream LA Fitnesses, etc. (No, never Planet Fitness and never will set foot in that type of franchise). I digress, Golds in Bridgewater has amazing machines, awesome staff, serious professional athletes, normal regulars who are all extremely nice, beginners who are courteous, etc. It is always clean and as someone who is serious about bodybuilding, yet someone that doesnt care for a dirty "hardcore" environment just "because its cool" I can say that this is the perfect environment for anyone. Joining the gold gym and starting my Gym Journey with Tom's assistance has been one of the best decisions i have taken. Their corporate office provides horrible customer service. They are rude and the only way you can get manager help is to be rude yourself. I have to call over a dozen times to corporate to try to get something resolved and they wouldn't do it until I had to speak to a manager. Previous poster is correct - location is Rt 28 in Raritan, NJ When I joined 2/1/13, the men's locker room was sketchy. The benches were not fixed to the floor and unsteady when you try to sit on them. The shower stall curtains were moldy with rusted curtain rods. The person giving the tour mentioned that the locker room was being remodeled over the next few months. New everything including shower stalls, lockers and benches. It is 1/15/14 today and the locker room has "caution wet paint" sign on the wall. Everything else is still the same as last year. My membership contract ends on 1/31/14. I told them today not to expect me to renew until they fix the locker room. The guy at the desk informed me that I need to give 60 days notice to end my membership and hands me a business card for their outsourced financial company. The company tells me I need to give 30 days notice or they will file with their collection agency. "Is their anyone else I can speak to about this?" "No" OK, I'll pay the $35 dollars and go for another month but I was told a lie when they wanted me to join, got stuck in a one year contract and misinformed by staff when I tried to sever ties. There are many gyms in the area ... try those. Equipment, staff and facilities are important. Gold's staff is "sales staff". Their equipment is OK but their facilities are poor. Do not sign an annual contract that has an automatic extension clause. It is there to take your money. read more

There's a gym literally two minutes away from my house that I can walk to, yet I keep a membership here at golds because it's one of the few hard-core gyms in the area that has more weight than other gyms put together. Staff is great and they are very insensitive when you bring up a concern to them about anything in the gym. read more

Love this gym it's like a second home to me. I have met so many people that I can now call friends :)... the staff is very friendly and helpful. The owners are very hands on and immediately respond to any concerns or questions. The gym is well kept. The equipment is always clean and up to date. As someone who trains mainly powerlifting, I like this Golds Gym. There is a variety of equipment, including an SSB. They even have self lift-off benches, which can be kind of nerve wracking at first but are super great! My main issue is lack of space. Particularly in the weight area there is not a lot of room for deadlifting. Also, this is more a preferential thing, but there is only one power rack.Other than that there are 2 smith machines, and 2 star trac-style squat racks. I would never do my programming in a smith machine, and as a short person, I do not like the fact that the latter does not have adjustable safeties. Other than that, I have met some great people at this gym--both members and staff alike-- and I enjoy lifting here! read more

I've been coming here for 4+ years now and I still love it! The equipment is always clean and well-taken care of, and the Zampettis are always looking for ways to freshen up/improve the facility. There is a large variety of free weights, machines, benches, squat racks, and cardio equipment. Both the front desk staff and the trainers are very helpful and friendly. I dread when the day comes where I can no longer work out here! read more

I've been a member for a few years and the only reason why I am still a member there is because this gym is 8 minutes from my house. Lately this gym became VERY crowded and the owners don't care about the fact that having TOO many people is not only very inconvenient but also, dangerous. You literally have to stand in line to use the machines and watch out for others so they wont drop their dumbbells or bars on your foot. The only option for this place not to be too crowded is to have extended hours of operation which once again, owners are not intending on doing. This place is open till 6 pm on weekends when other places are open till 10, 11 and 12:00 am and till 1:00 pm on holidays. Also, labels with weights on the machines will be helpful too, many of them don't have them. read more

For a gym it's pretty nice but the actual place is pretty small. This gym has by far the WORST hours. Every time I have showed up they have been closed. I work part time and they're never open at the times I'm able to go. After this month is up I'm going to sign up for a gym with betters hours. read more
