2 scoops vanilla in a waffle cone. That's my dish.

I've liked this place for a while now but I didn't go here often because it's a little off the beaten path. However it was recently brought to my attention that keyboard warriors are calling for a boycott of this place because they support Black Lives Matter. That is disgraceful. I will no longer purchase my ice cream anywhere else. Of course it would be hard to support a place that wasn't good so luckily this place also has awesome ice cream and milkshakes. My wife is into the black and white malt milkshake. I go for boring ass vanilla in a waffle cone. I'm a huge proponent of waffle cones. There are a lot of places that are sub par when it comes to the waffle cone. The waffle cone here is sexcellent! Really the only reason I went to Cold Stone anyway was for Shark Week ice cream and they discontinued that. And Rita's .... idk they have commercials.

They were out of cookies and cream so I subbed for the cookie dough and added Oreos! Was tasty, the best part was definitely the confetti icing!! Ice cream itself wasn't anything to rave about, basic hard ice cream you could get in the grocery store though. Will go back to try the banana split that I saw someone order!

I truly hate to have to write this review because this is my neighborhood and the staff are very friendly. But I must be honest and convey my true feelings about Somerset Splits. It's overpriced!!! When my brother first told me about this place and I was expecting custom fresh made ice cream but it turns out the ice cream is from Bassett's and they feature ice creams from 1-900 ice cream of Kensington. The first time I went there I got a banana split and my girlfriend got two scoops with whipped cream. Price $14.50. The second time we went we asked for a scoop of 1-900 ice cream, two different flavors one scoop each. The board clearly states $5 and what you get is a slightly oversized scoop of ice cream. One(1) scoop Five American Dollars($5). 1scoop $5!!!!!! I get it 1-900 is specialty ice cream! The ice cream is tasty but it's not crack cocaine. It's criminal. I'm sorry I'm not price sensitive ever but when it's this extreme I can't help but be offended. I wish them the best. It's just too expensive for me. Maybe if it was a huge scoop or maybe 2 average sized scoops.... 3 stars is being generous even for the regular menu items at these prices. We are not in Northern Liberties.

My favorite local ice cream shop. They serve Bassets ice cream in a bunch of different ways. The sundaes are massive and only $8. I got the Dunkaroos sundae with chocolate chip ice cream and it was very sugary but very good. I always have eyes bigger than my stomach and I need to learn I can't eat a sundae by myself. Anyway, the dunkaroo sundae had teddy grahams, funfetti icing, a mountain of whipped cream and obviously ice cream! I can't wait to go back but I have to be careful - still trying to work off the pandemic pounds lol. Also, if you are vegan, they usually have options, like 2 flavors and a ton of toppings!!!

This place is a gem! If there is one thing every person wishes they had in their neighborhood, it's an ice scream shop. Port Richmond is blessed to have Somerset Spits dishing out great flavors and fun styles of ice cream. They have different styles of floats, sundaes, cereal milkshakes, and even have mochi. This mom and pop shop also gets a lot of love because of the owner and staff. They are so friendly, they want to make an impact in the neighborhood, and they want to hear from their patrons. They will make anything you ask if they have the flavors and tools to do so. One of my favorite things to get from here is a collaboration with Stocks Bakery (if you are around Fishtown/old Richmond/Port Richmond - this is a must stop by the way), but it's a strawberry sundae with Stock pound cake. It's just phenomenal. The inside of the shop is great too, plenty of opp's for instagram photos with your ice cream, great music playing, there is seating as well, and just cool overall decor. They also take cash & credit!

Nice little neighborhood ice cream parlor in the Port Richmond section of Philly! They have all the traditional ice cream parlor classic sundaes, milk shakes & banana splits, along with specialty sundaes like the Stock's Strawberry Shortcake that are unique to the area!

I've been on a mission to visit Somerset Splits since first hearing about them earlier this summer. My friends and I were in the area on Labor Day and decided to check it out for one last long-weekend splurge. There were only two employees so the line moved slowly but, fortunately, the line was pretty short. I loved the idea of a Kandy Kake milkshake but generally prefer my ice cream in a cone or cup, so I went for a hot fudge sundae with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. There were a few other sundaes listed but they were pretty banana-focused which isn't really my thing. I would have loved to see a few other options. My sundae was just right; the perfect size and just the right amount of fudge and whipped cream. Overall a great ice cream option for the area!

We recently stopped at Somerset Splits after a concert. We figured why not and love to try new places. First off the place serves some of the best ice cream around, Bassett's! Pulling up I was hoping it would be house made but Bassett's is just as good. The location is easy to find as it right next door to Tacconellis. If you don't know where that is well, you must live under a rock. Anyway, parking can be an issue. The place itself should be take out only. It is very small and cramped. They offer a few window seats, maybe 4 or so? The staff were extremely friendly and the place is very clean. I opted for the angry peach special? It was good. I wish there were more peaches. I could have done without the Frosted Flakes on top. It make it a bit too sweet for my liking. Next time I'll try the strawberry shortcake. This is a nice addition to the area and it just shows how Port Richmond is changing for the better.

I was in love with this place the second I walked in! The restaurant is cute and tiny and gives an old-time ice cream shop feel. They offer a variety of ice cream flavors as well as a bunch of topping options. It's a fairly simple concept. I designed a pretty good sundae with vanilla, fudge, peanut butter sauce, jimmies, and Reese's pieces. I am an absolute peanut butter lover but the fudge over powered the flavor a bit... maybe next time I'll go with less. All in all it was reasonably priced and I enjoyed my sundae. My date went with their strawberry shortcake special and MAY have ended up switching with me because it was SO GOOD. Super sweet and super tasty! I especially loved how sweet the cake was after it was soaked in strawberry sauce. There's not too many seats so it's not exactly a dine in type of place. We took our ice cream to go and enjoyed it on the walk back to our car. Definitely a better choice then going to cold stone!

This place is by far has the best ice cream Sunday I have ever had. Amazing quality ice cream with fresh toppings. I had the banana stand and I will be back for it. The staff was very friendly and appropriative of my business. I know this isn't the best picture!

Small ice cream shop with a lot of choices for customization. Its nice to have little shops like this tucked away in the neighborhood that's within walking distance. The staff is very friendly and the orders come out quick. My wife and I got ice cream this time around (traditional hot fudge sundae for me, and my wife got the strawberry shortcake which uses stocks pound cake) but i think I'll have to try one of their cereal milkshakes on my next trip.

Kandy Kake Milkshake - vanilla ice cream with kandy kakes mixed in and peanut butter and chocolate drizzle!

Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE ice cream. So of course my family and I had to stop after grabbing some Taconelli's pizza next door. The atmosphere in the store was adorable! I was hoping the ice cream would be homemade, but it was a close second with Basset's Ice Cream. I decided to go for the Kandy Kake milkshake. Lots of Kandy Kake pieces in the milkshake and a whole one on top. I was just disappointed wit the thickness of the milkshake. Otherwise, tasted good. My mom went for the strawberry shortcake sundae, with a piece of Stocks poundcake on top. She thoroughly enjoyed it and said the homemade strawberry sauce was very delicious. I would have given it 4 stars if my milkshake was better, but overall a good, new spot.

Ask the Community - Somerset Splits

    When does Somerset Splits open?

I do not believe that they have announced an actual date that they are going to be open for the season. I know to follow their IG for the most up to TD are information!

    Do they have vegan options?

Yes, we typically carry at least two vegan flavors a day. Our cones are vegan and many of our toppings are vegan as well. We often offer vegan shakes and mochi as well (but not always). For the time being, we post our menu daily on our IG page so… Read more

I've been a regular at Jeni's for some time now. This location operates on a smaller plot of land for sure, but the line moves quickly, because of a super helpful, super friendly set of staff. Note, there's a good chance that you'll be eating your ice cream outside on the side walk, but honestly it won't be too long before it's gone anyways. Flavors are reliable and on-point. Prices have fluctuated for sure over the years, but if you're coming with a group, I'd recommend the Story, to be able to try as many of their excellent flavors as you can. Plus, it's cheaper per scoop than all other options. My only knock is that they used to be way more adventurous in the past than they are now. I remember way back when they had an everything bagel flavor... that literally was spot on. Like so much so that it was not a good ice cream flavor because it was too accurate. Wish they had that same adventuring spirit again, but that's no knock to the quality of this local establishment.
