I love this place! It's been one of my favorites since I was younger. The ice cream alone is easily 5 stars for me. It's always delicious and worth the visit. If I'm rating the overall experience, I would take off a couple of points because the shop is pretty small with limited seating, and the cleanliness could be better. Service isn't the fastest either, but honestly I don't mind waiting because the ice cream is so good. It keeps me coming back. The portions are so worth the price. Even the kids size is really plentiful and not too expensive considering the quality and the city. I love the unique flavor combinations and how many choices there are. They have any ice cream combination you can think of and you're able to substitute other ingredients if there's something you don't want on the existing menu options. I stopped by on my lunch break and saw they had the cutest baseball cap style cups at the counter, similar to the ones sold at Citizens Bank Park. I immediately asked for a pink one. I got the Kite and Key Lime and it brightened up my entire day. The combination of key lime ice cream, with marshmallow fluff and whipped cream was heavenly. It's a small location, but they do have a few seats if you would like to sit inside which I decided to sit down and enjoy my ice cream. It was so much to choose from. The service was great. What happened to this place?!? I went in today and it was a desert, no other customers. That makes sense for mid afternoon I guess. There was one employee working WAY in the back area - long curly red hair and an eyebrow piercing (I only describe them so any manager or owner who reads this knows who it is.) So I was standing at the register and this person was way in the back standing at a little counter/table on their phone. I stood there for awhile trying to get their attention, and they finally looked up, saw me...then looked back at their phone. Then after a hot minute it like...dawned on them?...that I was a customer, and they started walking towards me; but they looked over their shoulder and all around as if there was supposed to be someone else there who was missing? Then they proceeded to make me feel like I had interrupted their day by cominng into this for profit business to pay money for goods. I ordered the chocolate cheesecake which is incredibly tiny at $7.50 and I mean...it's fine. It's not $7.50 fine, but we live in a society or whatever so...fine. Anyway you would have thought I asked this person to bag up a slab of concrete wrapped in pure light the way they labored to put the item into a plastic container for me and ring me up. Also apparently they have a hearing issue which is of course FINE, but after they didn't hear me the first time I asked about payment and I repeated myself more loudly they seemed offended for some reason that I spoke more loudly the second time? Ok, I have a hearing problem too actually, so when people repeat themselves for me after I tell them I didn't hear them and they do it more loudly, I'm appreciative, not defensive and angry...? Anyway the other thing was just that the entire area behind the counter was...filthy. There was a white folding table that desserts were actively being made on and it was discolored and gross looking, with a dirty bucket sitting on it and like a roll of trash bags and just...it didn't make me feel great about the whole opertion. Bad service. They never even made my order. I sat waiting for 30 minutes before I decided to ask about my order. They were busy with delivery orders, so I thought maybe I'd get my order after that died down. Then there were no other customers in there besides myself, and I still did not get my order. When I saw them start to make the order of a parent and two kids who came in after I had been in there for 30 minutes, I decided to go up to ask about the status of my order. The ?manager ignored me, so an employee asked another employee if she had made it. She said she had no idea about it. I shouldn't have to encourage people to make my order. They also have an offer for a free cookie if you fill out their survey. However, in order to get the cookie, you have to order first, before you've experienced their customer service. If it's bad, you can't revise your survey. So it doesn't make sense to fill out the survey before ordering, if the store actually cares about improving their service. I likely won't return here. Edit: to answer the business owner's question about the sign for the survey, it's placed near the entrance, where people are more likely to fill it out first before even reaching the counter to order. It's assumed that you have to show that you took the survey at the time of ordering, in order to receive the cookie with your order. If you want people to fill out the survey after trying the product, then you could place the sign next to the register, and have the sign say that you want people to fill out the survey AFTER or near the end of their visit, after which they can come back up to redeem for the cookie. This would likely result in more accurate survey results for the store. Hope that explanation makes things clearer. My visit occurred on 12/16, and the things I ordered are in my review. read more

I distinctly remember exploring the Scoop Deville by Rittenhouse Square when I was young. It was every kid's fantasy, but I never got to try the ice cream until a couple of weeks ago after a show at Kimmel Center. Unfortunately, as an adult, I'm disappointed by the ice cream. It's not bad, but I probably wouldn't choose it over the many other similarly priced options in Philly unless I really wanted mix-ins. And, even though the storefront is still colorful, bright, and fun, the service is not. The employees when I visited were very "over it." It felt like they were letting their impatience (even though there were only two parties in the store who needed to be served) show so that people would order faster, which is a hard thing to do at a place where the main gimmick is an abundance of options. read more
