I've been to the Fishtown location many times but this was my first time at Rittenhouse. I my coworker and I couldn't resist stopping in on our lunch. The space is bigger with some seating. It has big window so it has lots of light. The owner waited on us. She is very nice and explained several flavors. It's hard to choose a flavor because there are so many unique ones. We did the split scoops for $7 so we could get 2 flavors. I had the apricot amaretti. It was creamy with pieces of lots of pieces of apricot and a small bits of cookie. I also had the cranberry ginger snap with creamy ice cream mixed with cranberry jam (?) and small chunks of ginger snaps. Both flavors were yummy! FOOD I tried a split scoop of their blueberry cheesecake and strawberry shortcake. Both were absolutely delicious and chunky. Most places aren't as generous with the amount of chunks in their scoops, but Weckerly's did a great job with their cream-to-mix-ins ratio. My only complaint was that the blueberry jam for the cheesecake flavor was a bit too sweet. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly! Their spoons are sharp though, so be careful when eating. Weckerly's is different, in a good way! Relatively new to the neighborhood (but not Philly), this spot offers a variety of unique flavors. Not in a twist on rocky road type of way, but in a tomato basil ice cream type of way. While I'm not adventurous enough to try some of the more "out there" flavors, their classics or calmer flavors are great! In the summer, there's typically a line down the block, but their team does nice job of getting everyone in and out quickly. Prices are high, but nothing out of the ordinary for the are. Think 7-8 bucks for a small. They offer coffees but don't seem to be pushing that much. read more

My favorite ice cream place in the city! It seems like every few blocks in the area you'll find a place that sells ice cream, but since the first time I've walked into Weckerly's, I've only been coming back here for this delectable treat. They have a such an eclectic assortment of flavors, from the familiar-adjacent to the ones that you might think twice about how it would work in ice cream form--and yes they do samples. I believe they have seasonal flavors as well. I really enjoyed the fig basque cheesecake recently, and a coffee and donuts one. For someone who hates cloyingly sweet desserts, I think their flavors have been at a perfect level of sweetness for me. I totally love this Weckerly's. It's in a convenient location near all the places I frequent and the ice cream is, hands down, the best in Philly. One of the more interesting flavors is Dubai Chocolate. It's really good. I was getting it all last year but now I've graduated to Pistachio Olive Oil Cake. From these two flavor suggestions, you can tell that this place is very special and has unusual flavors you won't find anywhere else. It's sort of like a Jeni's or Van Leuwenn, but better. A few blocks from me, beautifully decorated, bright, a handful of outdoor benches to enjoy your treats, and a spot that will hopefully stick around for years to come. The Rittenhouse ice cream scene is alive with options at this moment. Where I think Weckerly's stands out (I eat a lot of ice cream both professionally and personally) is with their care in flavor. They don't go big or outrageous for no reason, sticking to simplistic flavor combos and executing perfectly. I went with a cone of the buttercake and was blown away. As someone who loves mix-ins and a broad textural experience in my ice cream eating, this is a 10/10. Also head to Weckerly's for fabulous vegan options from sorbets to coconut creams and more. They also cater to your gluten free friends and overall do a great job denoting what's in what. The sandwiches are also not to be missed. So much so, that I'll need to come back to this location and try more. This time I went with the Cherry Blossom ice cream sandwich. Two thick slabs of unique flavors sealed together by a cookie (don't tell my dentist). The inside counter top or outside benches will be perfect sit, chat, people watch, and enjoy a delectable treat. Yay! I am so happy Weckerlys opened this location in rittenhouse! I stopped by on Sunday late afternoon. There was a short line out the door but it went quickly. I liked the light bright interior with some seating near the window and the large counter with so many ice cream flavors! It was honestly a little hard for me to read the menu until I got close to the counter but they have so many flavors including some vegan options, as well as sandwiches, and coffee - I'm going to have to come earlier in the day and try an affogato! I tried 2 flavors - Dubai chocolate and caramel cheesecake. I chose 1 scoop of Dubai chocolate which I enjoyed outside on one of the benches since it was a beautiful day. Listen. I came here for a scoop of ice cream, not a full-blown existential crisis. I thought I'd be in and out in five minutes. Instead, I sampled what felt like half the menu and aged approximately three years trying to make a decision. Every flavor was rich, poignant, delicious, and somehow emotionally complex -- like each scoop had a backstory and a moral lesson. At one point, I was holding a tiny spoon, staring into space, questioning my entire personality. "Am I a spice person today ? Or an almond croissant chaos gremlin?" The staff was patient -- almost too patient -- like they'd seen this kind of meltdown before. They probably keep tissues behind the counter for people who realize too late that the pistachio is, in fact, transcendent. Eventually, I committed. I won't tell you which flavor because I want you to suffer the same beautiful indecision I did... it was the olive oil cake and the almond croissant... But when I finally sat down, took my first bite, and let it melt into a slow-motion montage of joy and regret -- I knew. This wasn't ice cream. This was therapy in dairy form. Was it expensive? Sure. I've been to several ice cream places in Philly and this one is just not worth to go back again. There are many handmade ice cream shops in Philly! It means Philly is a very compatible city for ice cream shops (you can see my other reviews for better ice cream places) Staffs are very friendly and service is very pleasant, they let us try different flavors prior to the purchase. But, the size of a scoop is not worth the price they charge ($7/scoop) and the flavor is just very heavy in general. If you like heavy cream like ice cream, you will like it. They do have quite a few options for vegan as well. Some of staffs are still not fully trained to scoop ice cream yet, so just be mindful of your ice cream scoop shape will not be perfect as you imagine. I also tried their famous "sandwich ice cream", which they only have 2 kinds to choose from and they're also pre-packaged (not freshly made from scoops). The ice cream sandwich is also overpriced for its portion & flavor-wise from my stand point. They're only outdoor seating areas but not that much seatings. Will not going back here to buy ice cream (not worth to buy with my own money), but will enjoy it if someone buys for me read more

The line was out the door, but moved with expedience and had a fun, summery, pleasant vibe. The ice cream was predictably terrific, and I will certainly plan on a prompt return. I'd love to leave a better review but based on my experience I'd say one star is enough. I was there the first week this location opened. Appeared to be a soft opening as management was there going over details etc on their laptops. It happened to be a rainy day but I had plans to meet a friend there. Turns out I was early and she was late so I sat at a barstool to wait. Instead of greeting me or asking me if I had questions or needed anything, the staff began to talk about me loitering due to the rain and how rude I was. I happened to be the only person in the store and they were not quiet about their feelings. The person behind the register said he was going to kick me out and another staff called me a piece of shit. If I hadn't been meeting a mentee there I would have confronted the staff. I even left a tip despite how nasty they were. The ice cream is good- but I won't ever go back. Not sure where they were basing their assumptions on but I can't help to feel racially targeted. Regardless, I'll stick to Milk Jawn where the scoops are huge, the price is $5 for a single scoop and the staff isn't outwardly rude or assumptive. read more
