My sister went here to get her nose pierced, spur of the moment. I have my nose pierced but I actually had to LEAVE the country. Fly thousands of miles to Spain. Stay there a month; so when I got home, my family would've MISSED me sooo much that they would get over the whole "new hole in my head" issue easier and quicker!!! (It worked!) Needless to say, my sister is way braver than I am! She actually did it in the same city we live in! WOW! Now THAT takes guts. (Nevermind that I'm 34 and she's 41... I loved my experience at Somatic! The girls were super nice there, and Sara did an awesome job piercing me and my friend. I got my septum done and my roommate got her nose pierced. They walked us through the store and showed us the jewelry available, and worked with me, even when I said I was looking with a budget. While we were waiting Sara went through aftercare with us as they sanitized the pieces, and when the time came she was super calm and very sweet. She let my roommate come into the piercing room with me and let me stay while she got her nose piercing done. She answered all of our questions before during and after, and was super quick with the process; the actual piercing part barely hurt at all! I will definitely come back here for my next piercing! The only thing is that somatic only does piercings on walk ins only, so don't come if you're in a hurry. They pierce on a first come first serve basis, and are very strict about their no pierce after 7:30 policy (they close at 8), so plan according and show up well before then. I really wanted to get my belly button pierced. When i checked Yelp, Somatic Body Piercing was the first one to come up. It was near my house and when i read the reviews everyone seemed to love it. And I am so glad i went there! The place was great, very clean and organized. Andy was the piercer that helped me. I guess he could tell I was nervous because he kept telling me that all I had to do was stay calm. When he took me into the room for the piercing, he told me step-by-step what he was doing and kept me well informed. He was so nice and willing to help me stay calm. He informed me how to take care of the piercing and told me to feel free to call or come in if i had any questions. If I ever need anything else pierced I'm coming back to Somatic for sure! I went in yesterday to get my tragus pierced after reading some wonderful yelp reviews. I was warmly welcomed, and they checked out the area I wanted to pierce before they even agreed to do it. The whole place was extremely clean, and the staff were extremely knowledgeable about everything I had questions about. It took no time at all for Pierre (who is filling in for Jill while she's out of town) to deftly jab my cartilage with some steel, and he made comforting conversation the whole time - he never once mentioned the word "needle," though it wouldn't have bothered me. They encouraged me to stop by during the healing process so they could check it out. It ended up costing me about $70 after tip, but I totally think it was worth it. I was in the area with my friend having breakfast and she told me that she wanted to get her ears pierced here since they were having a two-for-one deal. They were celebrating 22 years in business. I had been thinking about getting a helix and another lobe piercing so I said why not, let's go. We got there about half an hour after it opened and there was already a line out the door. We didn't think it would be so popular. We waited for about two hours until we got inside. But we did get nice tote bags with some goodies inside. I was really nervous but my piercer was able to calm me down and made me feel really comfortable. The piercing itself didn't hurt but once the earrings were in it hurt. Self proclaimed middle-aged wimp here; yep that's me. I decided to have my earlobes pierced, again, after all these years. My first piercing, done in the 80's, was at the mall with one of those horrible gun things. The piercing never healed correctly and I basically gave up wearing earrings 20 years ago. I live near Somatic and I've often pressed my nose up against the glass willing myself to go in there. Finally, I put my big girl pants on and decided to go for it. Sarah was working that day and was extremely professional and knowledgeable in regards to piercing. I know what I requested wasn't exactly on the top of the difficult list, but it was still nice to feel like I was in good hands. The piercing process appeared very sanitary and I'm happy to report that the actual piercing took a matter of a few seconds. It wasn't too bad and so much better than that awful gun they use at the mall. I was given after care instructions, which I have been following. I'm happy to report the piercings seem to be healing just fine. I would very much so recommend this place to any one wanting a piercing. My piercer was Elise and I've come in multiple times before getting pierced by her and she's so informative and really gets to know your anatomy before doing any kind of piercing. I got my septum done by her and she was very gentle and efficient while also explaining everything she was doing. She told me the risks of the piercing and how they don't always come out straight and I have a deviated septum and she also explained how this can cause it to not be perfect. But she was wonderful, got it in a perfect spot and it was so even! I appreciated her being honest about the risks and then letting no me choose whether or not I wanted to still go through with it. Major thanks to Sara to being a BOSS and piercing my helix (x2), and most of all, instilling major confidence in me. As I told her when I first walked in, I was "new", and she was fabulous. I had confidence in her right away, and she was completely and totally professional as she walked me through jewelry and after-care. The piercing itself was a shock, but I would seriously hesitate to call it painful. Inserting the CBRs, now, that I would call painful. But Sara was awesome again, and told me that sometimes putting the ring in hurt more than the piercing, which was TOTALLY what happened in my case. In my adrenaline/pain-rush post-piercing, I totally forgot to tip her, even though I told myself to remember as I was sitting down on the table (how quickly we forget), but if I ever return, I will definitely remember. I imagine that all the piercers here do the same great, clean, professional and friendly work that Sara did. All told, my double helix and plain steel CBRs ran $90. Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to say it was worth it for the level of comfort and confidence I experienced at Somatic. Listen up. If you're in Long Beach and you want to get pierced, please for God's sakes, give this place a call. I don't bargain shop when it comes to having someone push metal through my flesh. The shop is hell-a clean and the staff knows what the eff they're doing. Each time I've been there for my own stuff (4 and counting), they are able to answer all of my questions. My navel piercing had been torn out once and the jewelry fell out and the piercing closed another time. I had scar tissue and they "anchored" the piercing behind the tissue. I went in to get my ears pierced for the first time. I was nervous when I walked in but the staff was very nice and after them explaining the process my nerves were much less! They have a small selection of tiny studs for earlobes. Nothing too fancy, just the basics. I got pierced by Sara and she was a true professional! Quick and not too painful. They were awesome at explaining the proper after care, they even give you salt with instructions on how to make a salt bath to soak them in.
