All of the food is authentic Thai cuisine. The chef is Thai and very experienced, and everything we tried was incredibly flavorful and delicious. It's not an American fusion version of Thai food--it's authentic. The owner is also very nice and attentive. She made sure all the customers were enjoying their food and having a great experience. Highly recommend this place! Definitely a must-try if you're looking for authentic and flavorful Thai food! read more

Ordered: - Panang Curry (Chicken) - Probably one of my curry favorites that I've had in Houston. - Pad Thai (Beef) - It was fine. Satisfied but nothing crazy. - Thai Fried Rice (Beef) - It was fine but didn't stand out to me. Don't really care to order it again. If I was wanting Thai curry I would come back. If I was craving other dishes, I don't think it would be my top choice. read more

Situated in the middle of an unassuming strip, this restaurant boasts flavorful dishes in a sleek, modern setting. I tried two different varieties of their chicken wing appetizers and the Panang Curry Short Ribs. Everything was amazing. As expected, the coconut milk in the red curry really cut the spice, so even the Extra Thai Hot spice level didn't taste very spicy. The server was kind enough to bring over dried spices, peppers, and chili oil though to help supplement. read more

A great spot for Thai food in the area. Spacious lot with plenty of parking. It wasn't crowded on a weekday night, so it was easy to grab a table. Their menu offers a variety of Thai dishes from appetizers, noodles, fried rice, and curry.   We ordered a few items to share: - Crab fried rice: my fave out of everything. A good amount of crab meat to rice ratio. Fried rice wasn't mushy. - Pad see ew: good texture on the flat noodles, chicken wasn't dry. Good balance on the saltiness. - Papaya salad: refreshing, nice citrus flavor in the sauce. - Tiger cry: beef was tendered, not overcooked. The sauces paired well with the beef. - Green curry: good level of spice, paired well with the white rice.   The portion was decent. Wait time for the food wasn't bad. Service was friendly. Casual ambience. Overall, we enjoyed everything we tried. Would come back to try more of their menu. read more

Great little Thai spot! Somboon Thai Kitchen has a nice, low-key atmosphere and wasn't crowded when we went. I had the chicken pad see ew and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly, and everything felt relaxed and welcoming. Definitely a great neighborhood Thai place! read more

We came here on the hunt for some good and authentic Thai food. It was a hidden gem to say the least. The staff was so kind, and we were seated immediately despite it being a little busy on a Saturday. We ordered quickly (Pad Woon Sen - medium spice and Pad Thai - medium). In true fashion of overestimating myself, the medium was a pretty good spice level for me minus the few stray chilis that tried to take me out. It was SO good though! At the time, the World Cup was on so everyone was pretty locked in on the TV but I still got a chance to take in the aesthetic of the restaurant which was cute and cozy. I really enjoyed myself and will definitely return! read more

Overall, everything here tasted alright, but the portions were so small for the price, so I felt the value just wasn't there. Thai Papaya Salad - crisp and refreshing with a good balance of spicy, sour, sweet, and salty, but I was expecting a bigger portion than what was served for the price. Pad Thai - pretty saucy and a bit too sweet for my taste. Crab Fried Rice - happy with the healthy amount of crab chunks in here, but the rice tasted dry and under seasoned. Green curry - the short ribs were extremely tender, but there was barely any curry... the depth of the curry in the bowl was like 1cm.... A bowl of white rice was served on the side and the rice here also seemed on the dry side. I don't like their table layout here either, we were seated at a table for two and the table was so small that it was an uncomfortable dining experience. read more

Som Boon Thai was some good, some meh. The inside is newly renovated from the previous restaurant with a dark and gold accent vibe. Service was mediocre. Edamame: A bit overcooked and a touch over salted. Fried long beans: Significantly undercooked and very crunchy. Rather than sautéed well, a layer of oil coated all the beans. Nice garlic flavor. Green curry: Honestly felt like a mix of green and yellow curry to me. While the flavor was pleasant, it was a little thin for my taste and quite high in heat level, even the mild. The fried eggplant was my favorite component of this dish, otherwise the vegetables were intermittently undercooked. Fried rice: My favorite dish of the night, this had excellent wok breath and was cooked well with the individual rice kernels still retaining their chew but cooked all the way through. The Chinese broccoli lent crunchiness, the chicken was tender, and the sauce complemented the overall dish well. I'd get takeout fried rice from here and perhaps try the stirred noodle dishes, but I wouldn't order the other dishes again. read more

Flavorful!! Ordered the following items: -Pad See Ew w/ Beef -Pad Thai w/ shrimp -Papaya Salad -Green Curry -Panang Curry -Fried Long Bean Everything was flavorful and even mild had a bit of a kick to it. All of the curries came with white rice to be paired with. The papaya salad was fresh and quite authentic. Need to go back and try the thai tea because when ordering togo, they forgot to add my 2 thai teas to give to the driver. Pedro noted my order # and said the next time i come in he will give the thai teas and add an extra one. read more

Som Boon Thai is a cozy Thai restaurant that serves delicious food and offers great service. As an appetizer, I got the Laab Chicken Wings. The wings had a crispy batter and were seasoned very well. The seasoning had a spicy, tangy flavor that reminded me of lemon pepper. For the entrées, I ordered the Pad See Ew with pork (hot spice level) and the Crab Fried Rice (medium spice level). The Pad See Ew had thick, chewy wide noodles that absorbed the sauce nicely. The pork was tender, and the Chinese broccoli provided a refreshing crunch to the dish. I ordered my dish at a hot spice level, and it was the perfect amount of heat for me. I was really impressed by the Crab Fried Rice. They were very generous with the crab meat. Each spoonful had large chunks of crab, which tasted fresh and added a delicious hint of sweetness to the fried rice. For dessert, I highly recommend the mango sticky rice. The mango was incredibly sweet and flavorful, and I was glad they provided a generous portion. The sticky rice and savory coconut cream paired perfectly with the sweet mango. I had a great meal at Som Boon Thai and will definitely be back in the future! read more

pretty good thai restaurant. the spicy is truly spicy as a warning papaya salad crunchy and sour, but the nuts add nice texture. the quarter head of cabbage is a funny addition the honey jalapeño chicken wings are fantastic! small, crunchy, salty slightly sweet w side salad. sauce is super addicting crying tiger salad mmmm we got it medium rare but it was def more rare. it was really chewy but the sauce was a nice savory oyster sauce and fish sauce. thai tea is like drinking condensed milk, lacking thai tea flavor and so sweet pad kra pow ribeye is prob the best entree, well cooked beef but not chewy. savory with the fried basil companionship; just peak flavor combo pad kee mao is good. one dimensional but noodles were cooked perfectly, rare in these dishes. read more

Somboon Thai is definitely worth a visit! You'll want to get seated quickly because this place fills up fast--and I can see why. The food is delicious, super affordable, and perfect whether you're grabbing lunch or enjoying a casual date. I went with coworkers, and the plates just kept coming. We tried several different dishes (pictures attached!), and every one of them was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. What a delightful spot for delicious Thai cuisine. An unassuming exterior gives way into a great menu full of Thai favorites, all reasonably priced. We were here for lunch on a Friday and we had no issue getting seated as a group of 4; the place wasn't packed but it had a steady stream of busy tables. I had their Moo Ping; grilled pork skewers with sticky rice. Perfect lunch - filling without feeling too heavy. Others at the table had the pad thai, green curry, and pad see ew - all looked amazing and certainly something I would get in the future. Service was friendly and quick. Parking - private, shared lot. Plenty of spots read more

I've had a few opportunities to dine in and take out from Som Boon and each time I've been impressed with the quality and consistency of their offerings. The menu has all the traditional favorites one would expect from a Thai restaurant in the States; I've particularly enjoyed the smoky fried rice paired with zingy fish sauce, the saucy pad thai woon sen, and the deliciously charred moo ping skewers accompanied with sticky rice. Service is efficient and all food is prepared quickly, so your belly won't be rumbling too long after you arrive :) There's no shortage of excellent Thai restaurants in Houston, reflecting the full spectrum of casual, street-food fare to high-end fine dining experiences - and while Som Boon hews more toward the former, the food here could easily find its way onto a table of the latter. On my next visit I'm eager to try the fried fish or crab fried rice paired with one of their soups - hope to see you there soon! read more

Walked in and ordered food to go on Saturday afternoon! The food was given to me within 15 minutes of ordering. The restaurant was recommended to me on TikTok and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. The restaurant had a bit of a gross smell and it was really hot in there so I'll probably be taking out vs eating dine in. I ordered the crab fried rice and the pad kee mao. I ordered both "hot" and boy were they spicy!! Both dishes were fantastic and I'll be ordering them again next time I visit. The crab fried rice was my favorite. read more

I was really excited to try this place. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines and a lot of Houston food bloggers I follow raved about this place. To start off with the positives, it's located in a strip mall and has a lot of parking. The service was also quick for it being decently busy at dinner time. Some of the dishes we ordered were delicious. We were told to order the tiger cry, which is grilled ribeye steak. The steak by itself was good but dipping it in the 2 sauces it comes with is the game changer. My other favorite was the salt toasted pork belly. If you have a low spice tolerance, even the mild spice has a kick to it. There's bits of bird's eye chili that will catch you off guard. I liked the crispiness of the pork belly and it was super flavorful with rhe crispy garlic and chili. The pad thai was okay. The pineapple fried rice was also underwhelming. The pineapple chunks weren't really that sweet so there wasn't that usual contrast of sweet and savory that you get. My friend ordered the green curry (not pictured) and he wasn't impressed. The curry was really runny and didn't have the thickness of a traditional Thai curry. Overall, our experience was okay and I'm glad we tried it out. read more

Thai is a must whenever my folks are in town. We started with spicy edamame was so yummy. The pad kee mao was delicious. The green curry semi felt like it was missing something to me. It also was a tad oily almost after it sat abit. The soup my husband got was steaming hot and tasty. Semi hard to enjoy the shrimp with having the tails still on and the heat. It definitely has a brighter sunlight feel from the last restaurant that was there. Fairly comfortable seating. The wait staff made sure our drinks were always full. Just be careful when choosing a spice level. read more

After a number of referrals, I decided to try Som Boon Thai Restaurant this evening. Upon walking in, it was a nice atmosphere. Everybody seemed to be enjoying their food. We had to wait for a few minutes because most of their tables were taken up by a large party, but once we were sat, we were promptly taking care of the staff was very very nice. My first red flag for the night was the only iced tea that they had available. Was either Thai tea or bottled tea so I stuck with water although I really would've liked some real iced tea, I ordered some crispy spring rolls and the short rib Panang Curry. The crispy spring rolls or egg rolls as they're called here. We're very nice well-made nice sauce, but the store of the show was definitely the Curry, almost every. Panang Curry that I've had in Houston has fallen short, but this one did not at all. It was one of the best ones that I've had in years and even with them not having iced tea I will go back just for this dish, but that being said my guest had the Som Boon Kai Kua Noodles which were equally amazing. All in all it was a great experience, but I have to say once again it was an extreme disappointment to not be able to get fresh brewed iced tea and it would detour me from going there very often. Go try it for yourself and have a great meal. read more

I'd been wanting to try Som Boon for a while. We finally stopped by and we really enjoyed it. We were greeted by the welcoming staff and were promptly seated. Started off with some wings and pork skewers. Both were cooked perfectly and had accompanying sauces that really complimented the dishes. We then had fried rice and pad ka praw, both with tofu since we already had plenty of meat. Both of these were also very flavorful and were served with the Thai staple of fish sauce/lime juice/Thai peppers that I've grown to be addicted to. Overall I had a great experience and would like to go back to try the Thai curry and some other dishes! read more

We just discovered this Thai spot along I-10, located in the same plaza as Starbucks and what used to be Samurai Noodle. Parking is a breeze with plenty of spaces in their lot. For a small mom-and-pop shop, the place is newly renovated, modern, and kept clean. While the bowls and plates are plastic, the metal utensils have a nice weight to them. (And if, like me, you feel odd eating Thai food with a fork, they also offer metal chopsticks.) The menu is simple yet features all the classics. We tried the Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Pad Ka Praw with Rib Eye (all at a medium spice level). The flavors were spot on, the ingredients were fresh, and the portion sizes were just right. Definitely a solid find! read more

Hello Thai cuisine findings ! This place offers a simple selection of soup, curries, noodles, fried rice choices, among many others. It's located off i-10, really just facing it. The parking is good, I've never had a problem. Been a few times now and they have been quite consistent, even on the takeout! I really like their curries, green or panang. They're super generous on the ingredients, that is plenty of proteins until I even get the surprise to find more when almost satisfied and full! Flavor is rich and rice is delicious. Noodles are plentiful too. Sometimes, I wonder if the portions are enough for 1.5 or even 2 people! Now, watch out for your spice level. Medium is a good kick already. Or maybe it's a personal problem and I need more training (more Thai food ? Lol) Service is quite prompt. Place doesn't stink. The two ladies at service are always smiling. Groups up to 4-5 are ok but more you may have to wait, depending on the time you'd walk in. The decors are simple, nothing extra to declare. Tables are decorated with small little bouquets. Don't forget to get their fried chicken wings, a really nice crispy taste. Pair all your meal with a nice beer or stay with water. It's about having a good time and this place keeps on delivering ! So good! read more

I really hate leaving a 3.5-star review because I genuinely enjoy the food, the establishment is clean and the staff are friendly. We stopped by for a quick lunch. We ordered the chicken pad thai and an off-menu item that our server described as similar to larb, but it ended up being more like the Tiger Cry appetizer. I thoroughly enjoyed my Pad Thai, and while the off-menu dish was good, it was essentially just seasoned beef--we could have just ordered the Tiger Cry appetizer instead. Plus, it didn't come with any rice or sticky rice, so we had to order that separately. The thai ice tea is good - not too sweet What really bothered us was the $2 charge for chili pepper and fish sauce. I understand that they sell it by the jar, but since we were dining in, it should have been complimentary. $2 isn't a big deal, but it's the principle of it. The prices are on the higher side since they don't offer a lunch menu--it's the same pricing all day. The restaurant itself is clean, food is decent and the staff are nice, but I'm not sure if we'll be back since there are other restaurants that are just as good. read more

It's been a while since we tried a new Thai spot and this one happens to be next to the house, which is great. It's in the same plaza that Samurai Noodle used to be in; right by I-10 and Shepherd. Plenty of free parking out front, which is great. The interior is clean and the staff are pretty friendly. The menu is concise and simple, which is a plus. We ordered the green curry, beef pad Thai, and pad ka praw with ribeye. The flavors were solid and everything we ordered tasted authentic and portions were good. The curry had a very authentic taste and correct spice level; plenty of eggplant and lemongrass in there as well. The ribeye was well seasoned and so was the pad Thai. Honestly everything was very solid and on point. Glad to see new mom and pop spots and hope they stay busy. read more

My family loves Som Boon! Food can be a little inconsistent sometimes but when it hits, it's soooo good! Our favs: Tiger Cry Ribeye Garlic Jalapeño wings Moo Ping Crab fried rice Skip the desserts. Not their strong suit. It's not the cheapest Thai restaurant. I wish they would invest a little more money on ambiance. It's not a vibe making it more of a quick lunch spot instead of a dinner joint for me. Service is good when it's slow. But I've never seen more than two servers working at a time so when it's a full room, service lacks. Just be patient. Food is worth it. read more

2.5* Meh Okay service. Good ambiance, this is in the same spot as now-closed Samurai Noodle. Thai Tea -- not good. Overly sweet, barely any tea flavor. Honey Jalapeño Chicken Wings -- good. Crunchy and tender. Pad Kee Mao Chicken -- medium spicy, good texture on the noodles, but overall the dish lacked flavor. It needed salt and some Thai chilies in fish sauce to make it flavorful, but sadly they charge extra for that. Not good... they consider chili sauce a side order. Som Boon Dry Noodles -- comes with bland soup. The noodles reminded me of Indomie Mi Goreng instant noodles. Cold fish tofu. Overpriced for what it was. All the components of this dish didn't seem to go well together -- lacking harmony. read more

I'll start off with the con, $4/bowl of jasmine rice??? The curry came with rice but not the tiger cry. The amount of rice that came with the panang curry may have been enough for one person but not for two. I guess I just eat a lot of rice and expected more from this place. Thai fried rice 4/5 this was super smokey and flavorful. Lots of meat and veg def worth the $16. Tofu pad Thai 5/5 I absolutely love this dish. Smokey and flavorful, not watery and the texture of the noodles were spot on. Kee mao 4/5 again, this place excels in the noodles game. The flat nodles were tender and the dish was well seasoned. I'll order their specialty noodles next time. Tiger cry 4/5 generous amount of beef but I would've preferred for the pieces to be cut smaller. The meat was very tender and I loved their dipping sauces. Would've done well if paired with rice... Panang curry 3/5 to me, this was too watery. Id focus on the noodles next time. French fries 5/5 this was the MVP Mango sticky rice 3/5 the cost of this dish made me bring it down to 3. read more

I saw Som Boom Thai Kitchen on Instagram and the food looked so delicious! I was in the area and decided to stop in an hour before lunch ended! So many options to choose from! It was definitely hard to decide what I wanted to eat! My cousin and I shared the string beans, the crab fried rice, the Laos style papaya salad and the Kua noodles! 1. Fried Long Beans - the beans were cooked perfectly in a garlic sauce! Delicious! 2. Laos Papaya Salad - might've been our least favorite dish we ordered. I didn't quite enjoy the flavors of this papaya salad. I'm used to Laos style papaya salad being really fishy with fermented fish paste. This one wasn't it. It had crab in it and was pretty spicy but the sauce wasn't something I enjoyed. 3. Kai Kua Noodles - this dish was the one that looked the most amazing on IG. I liked that the noodles came in thick ribbons but the dish was a bit under seasoned. I expected more flavors from this dish. 4. Crab Fried Rice - now I don't order fried rice very often at a restaurant but this one was our favorite dish of the day! Flavorful and pure deliciousness! Exactly as we wanted. Order this! You won't regret it! The ambiance of this restaurant was modern and authentic. It was very nicely decorated and service was quick. I would come back and try other dishes. I can't say anything we had was out of this world, where I actually had to come back for again, but if I was ever in the area and craving Thai food, this would definitely be an option! read more

First thing I said walking in was "there are so many men here!" Most tables were full. Good sign for a new business. They're still in their soft opening stage so the menu will change, +adding curry etc. Service was really well run, I appreciate this during lunch hour especially.
