I had to try the famous Aebleskivers on my trip to Solvang. These doughy Danish pancake balls with raspberry jam and powdered sugar were delicious. I'm not sure if they sell them anywhere else other than Solvang Restaurant. Outside of the restaurant, I saw that there was a line of people waiting to order their Aebleskivers and I got in line. I later found out that if you order from the line outside, you have to eat them outside and can't enter the restaurant. If you want to eat inside the restaurant, you can walk in, however, I was told that the prices inside are different. Anyways, the line was pretty long but I finally got to the front and ordered 3 orders of the Aebleskivers with 2 hot chocolates and a coffee. Each order comes with 3 Aebleskivers. I thought the price for the order of 3 Aebleskivers was not bad- you get 3 for $4.90. The Aebleskivers were so yummy! They were warm, soft, and golden on the outside. The raspberry jam and powdered sugar went really well with them! However, they were slightly undercooked inside. Their coffee was not anything extraordinary, just regular coffee. The hot chocolate was good. I just wish I would've known about their not eating inside if you order outside rule to begin with because we would've preferred to have eaten inside. We really enjoyed the Aebleskivers though! They're a must-try if you're visiting Solvang. read more

When we passed the Solvang Restaurant strolling the streets of Solvang, and I spotted the old-world European/ Danish decor inside and the long line of people in front ordering warm and fresh jam-covered aebleskivers, I knew I needed to experience it. In the interest of full disclosure here, I readily admit that I'm not immune to the lures of a gimmicky attraction. I figure there must be something cool to check out. Sometimes this philosophy serves me well, and sometimes it doesn't. In this instance, it definitely did. We arrived on MLK Jr Day for brunch, and it was moderately busy, but we were fortunate enough to be seated almost immediately. Solvang Restaurant is in many ways like a typical diner but with European decor and some Danish specialty menu items alongside a typical American diner menu. Because of my wedding diet, I just chose a regular two egg (poached) breakfast with hashbrowns, bacon, and no toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly (yay, poached eggs can be tricky), and the bacon was cooked to just the right amount of crispiness as well, but the hash browns were a little more al dente than I would've liked. My partner opted for the ham and cheese sandwich with french fries. He reported back that the sandwich was okay but nothing special. The aebleskivers were the star of the show -- do not miss out on these! They were warm and moist and covered in the most wonderful raspberry jam. The jam was not too sweet and thinner in consistency, and we all marveled at how it was the perfect complement to the aebleskiver. So yum and worth a minor detour from the wedding diet. As for the service, our server kept the coffee flowing, so no complaints there. The service is precisely what you'd expect at any busy cafe/diner. Overall, I'd say that it is absolutely with a visit here, but particularly for those moist, raspberry jam-covered aebleskivers. read more

Line out the door for the quick serve area where they sell the Danish pancakes (too hard to spell out here). Took about 25 minutes for me to get to order my Danish pancake but its made to order amnd fresh. Fresh is decliious ly soft and spongey from the window. I didn't order it a la mode with inc cream and I wish I did. On its own with the blueberry jam, its ok at best, but it would have made 80 degree weather much better with a scoop of ice cream. This review is based on one order of aebleskivers from the take-out window only. I was told if to only do one thing while in Solvang is to get an order of aebleskivers from the Solvang Restaurant. I waited in a short line to place my order. I received a three piece order of sphere-shaped fried dough topped with raspberry jam. The only thing sweet was the jam that gave flavor to the fried dough as the dough itself was not sweet at all. This was fun to share and try but I didn't enjoy it much. 2.5 stars! read more

I felt that for $8.50 the woman could put the sauce on the whole thing and not just one side so I asked nicely for a bit more. My first time in Solvang led me to the takeout window to try the famous Aebleskivers. For under $5 you get 3 of these spherical pancakes. They had a pancake-like exterior and a light, fluffy interior. They top these beauties with a delectable raspberry jam and a dust of powdered sugar. I got the jam on the side. The jam is the best I've ever had, however, I'm glad I got it on the side, because I enjoyed these more on their own. I love that there is a little takeout window, so you don't need to go inside the restaurant. They make these very quickly, so you won't have to wait long. I had high hopes for the Aebleskivers due to all of the hype. We had Dinner at Solvang Restaurant and it was like going to a bad Deli. The food was less than average, but not bad. The Aebleskivers arrived Hot with a Raspberry "Jam" that tasted like synthetic cough syrup. I usually love things like this, but after one of the Aebleskivers I let the rest of our party have the rest. About half the order was left on the table. Absolutely disgusting. On July 3rd around 12 PM, my family and I were sitting at the bar with a clear view of the food prep area. We watched an employee named Diana preparing a plate of aebleskivers with jam and ice cream. Before adding the ice cream, she was repeatedly digging her bare fingers into the aebleskivers and pressing her long acrylic nails directly into them to make room. It wasn't just a quick touch. She kept poking and pushing at them with those long nails. Watching someone's bare hands and long acrylic nails sink into ready-to-eat food was honestly nauseating. Acrylic nails can trap bacteria underneath them, and seeing food handled like that without gloves completely ruined my appetite. To make things worse, when we were leaving, she was at the register texting and talking on her personal phone while working. That only made the whole situation feel even more unsanitary and unprofessional. Management seriously needs to address this. Food safety should never be taken this lightly. read more

Just happened to pass by this place as my husband and I were walking around Solvang and decided to try these as we'd seen others walking around and eating them. We were very grateful to the two workers inside who instantly knew what we wanted because we had no idea how to pronounce it We got our order fairly quickly and we enjoyed the jam and powder sugar on it. I should have gotten it with a la mode because the circular pancake was dense and slightly dry. It didn't have enough jam and powdered sugar either IMHO. Some ice cream would have softened it a bit. Maybe next time I'll dine in and try the a la mode version. This place is quite popular. Wait time may be very long so come early. It's one of the preferred places to eat while in Solvang. I also got the 4 sausages and the bratwurst was amazing. Another thing is that the customer service is amazing. The older lady is very nice and i also like the vibe of the place. My wife finally asked the woman at the register if she could get our waitress, she did so very grumpily. She had the hot roast beef sandwich, and I ordered a patty melt with grilled onions. They both come with French fries. My wife and enjoyed her sandwich, not so me. This "patty" may have been 1/5 of a pound, and that's being very generous. The onions appeared to be momentarily slapped on the grill and were half raw. The fries were hot, but underdone and had absolutely no seasoning. Seemed like no one really cared that we were even though there. Their prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down. As locals, we try to support our shops and restaurants, but it will be quite some time before we return. There are better places to eat with friendlier staff - find them. read more

Had no idea the hours and walked in about 2:48pm-ish, the grumpy hostess sat us without a word. Then the server gives us menu and takes drink order, promptly coming back to take food order. We tell him we need more time please. He then informs us the place is closing at 3pm. That was frustrating because we felt rushed at that point. Wish the hostess had warned us before seating us! The food was CRAP. We ordered beef dip sandwich (my friend had 2 bites said she's had better at Arby's), the turkey cranberry croissant (the cranberry was this gross gelatin rigid slob that clearly came from a can), the abelskivers (the best thing we had but that's not saying a lot), and the side of sausage (cold, flavorless and inedible). Prices too much for this horrible quality of food!!! We left hungry and pissed off we spent $60 on that meal. Also sandwiches came first, then the abelskivers then the sausage...huh?! We arrived at 9:45am and there was plenty of seating. However, once 10am hit, there were no more available seats and people were waiting outside. The food is typical diner food with Danish items. Service is friendly and quick-ish. We've only ordered breakfast items and those were satisfying. Coffee refills for the win! We previously tried the aebleskiver but were not impressed. We thought it was undercooked and doughy. Well, we tried again...and requested that it be cooked longer. "Well-done" if you will. Unfortunately, that didn't help either. This will be our last time ordering the aebleskiver. It's not to our taste buds. Please don't let this stop you from ordering. You may think it's the best thing since sliced bread!
