So we had to wait another 15 minutes. You'd think they'd invest a text notification service but I suppose they want to keep the "novelty" of the restaurant? I ordered my son the chicken strip meal and one of the strips was fish, which could've been a huge issue if he had a seafood allergy but they replaced it. The German bratwurst was unfortunately not for me, though I was excited to try something new. It was both salty and lacked flavor other than "meat." It was served with mixed veggies that were clearly from frozen. We sat near the kitchen and I saw the large container they scooped my frozen veggies out of. The mash and veggies that came with the bratwurst didn't taste high quality at all. Everything was okay, low quality, standard diner food but nothing to go out of your way for. Even though this restaurant is in downtown Solvang on a Main Street, they only price their a aberskivers at $5.00 for three. It's ridiculously affordable and I loved it. What I loved more was the Hot pancake like ball of love with powdered sugar and jam. They were so good we went back again before we left. We also shared a cheese and bacon omelette. Never had so much crispy bacon on an omelette before. We requested extra crispy bacon and extra crispy hashbrowns. A lot of times they don't serve it crispy enough. This place did! I popped in here for brunch with a friend on a Saturday morning. There seemed to be a small crowd waiting outside but we were seated within a few minutes. I'd say the menu items are similar to standard diner food in terms of variety and quality. *Delayed post from Dec '24. Visited here during Lillejuleaften (Little Christmas Eve on 12/23) to enjoy the holiday atmosphere. This restaurant had great décor to keep your eyes constantly entertained, from wood carvings on the booths to miniature homes of all styles along the ceiling's border and Danish sayings painted on the wood beams. They even have a miniature store at the front where you can buy jams and flour to make your own Aebelskiver at home. It was extremely crowded when we arrived, as expected given the holiday, but thankfully we were seated immediately because we opted for the bar instead of a table. While our servers were doing their best, it was obvious they were running very behind. They didn't have any utensils for us to use and it took a very long time to get our food. We watched as plates were assembled behind the counter in front of us, then popped into the microwave to be reheated. Not the most appetizing site, but to be honest, our orders were still delicious. We ordered the Danish meatball and Danish sausage plates, both of which came with red cabbage and mashed potatoes with gravy. The meatballs also came with steamed vegetables, which were the only things I didn't quite care for as they were mushy and lacked proper seasoning. The other items were great in flavor and texture, except the chicken sausage was drier than the others, most likely because the fat content was lower than say the pork link. The mustard dipping sauce was tasty and helped moisten the chicken sausage. The famous Aebelskiver was definitely worth stopping in, but with 3 large dough balls, it's just too much for 2 people to eat comfortably after a full meal. I'd recommend skipping the ice cream if you find yourself in this situation. My wife finally asked the woman at the register if she could get our waitress, she did so very grumpily. She had the hot roast beef sandwich, and I ordered a patty melt with grilled onions. They both come with French fries. My wife and enjoyed her sandwich, not so me. This "patty" may have been 1/5 of a pound, and that's being very generous. The onions appeared to be momentarily slapped on the grill and were half raw. The fries were hot, but underdone and had absolutely no seasoning. My sausage croissant came with potato salad & pickled red cabbage. All three were very tasty. My hubby enjoyed his meal as well. Our server was hard working because this time she was serving a crowd! I had to try the famous Aebleskivers on my trip to Solvang. These doughy Danish pancake balls with raspberry jam and powdered sugar were delicious. I'm not sure if they sell them anywhere else other than Solvang Restaurant. Outside of the restaurant, I saw that there was a line of people waiting to order their Aebleskivers and I got in line. I later found out that if you order from the line outside, you have to eat them outside and can't enter the restaurant. If you want to eat inside the restaurant, you can walk in, however, I was told that the prices inside are different. Anyways, the line was pretty long but I finally got to the front and ordered 3 orders of the Aebleskivers with 2 hot chocolates and a coffee. Each order comes with 3 Aebleskivers. I thought the price for the order of 3 Aebleskivers was not bad- you get 3 for $4.90. The Aebleskivers were so yummy! They were warm, soft, and golden on the outside. The raspberry jam and powdered sugar went really well with them! However, they were slightly undercooked inside. Their coffee was not anything extraordinary, just regular coffee. When we passed the Solvang Restaurant strolling the streets of Solvang, and I spotted the old-world European/ Danish decor inside and the long line of people in front ordering warm and fresh jam-covered aebleskivers, I knew I needed to experience it. In the interest of full disclosure here, I readily admit that I'm not immune to the lures of a gimmicky attraction. I figure there must be something cool to check out. Sometimes this philosophy serves me well, and sometimes it doesn't. In this instance, it definitely did. We arrived on MLK Jr Day for brunch, and it was moderately busy, but we were fortunate enough to be seated almost immediately. Solvang Restaurant is in many ways like a typical diner but with European decor and some Danish specialty menu items alongside a typical American diner menu. Because of my wedding diet, I just chose a regular two egg (poached) breakfast with hashbrowns, bacon, and no toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly (yay, poached eggs can be tricky), and the bacon was cooked to just the right amount of crispiness as well, but the hash browns were a little more al dente than I would've liked. My partner opted for the ham and cheese sandwich with french fries. He reported back that the sandwich was okay but nothing special. The aebleskivers were the star of the show -- do not miss out on these! They were warm and moist and covered in the most wonderful raspberry jam. The jam was not too sweet and thinner in consistency, and we all marveled at how it was the perfect complement to the aebleskiver. So yum and worth a minor detour from the wedding diet.
