I went this morning with my 5 year old daughter. We got donut holes, a sugar donut, a creme-filled chocolate donut, and a French Baguette. The donuts were sooo fresh tasting. And I could tell that the baguette was made fresh that morning; it was crunchy on the outside and fragrant and soft on the inside. As an unexpected plus, I was planning on stopping by the grocery store afterwards for a few items, but was so happy to discover that Soltero's has a refrigerator with gallons of milk, eggs, juice, and more with very reasonable prices. If I could I'd give a 3.5 for this review. The one person we worked with was very friendly and polite, I have no issues there. The cake was made on-time and it really was no hassle with the order. The reason this is not 4 stars is due to a couple of reasons.. firstly the cake is from a catalog and it is $30 cheaper everywhere else that I looked. I didn't expect to spend quite so much but figured since it's baked fresh (unlike Walmart who uses frozen cake) that it must be worth the cost. The cake itself was good, not amazing, but good... the strawberry filling however was very bitter. Not unbearable but enough that none of the kids wanted to eat their slice of cake. I think we'll come here again but if we do a custom cake maybe next time we won't get the strawberry filling. read more

Holy Crap! It's a Twinkie!! I ordered a white cake with strawberry filling, double the height and a My Little Pony theme. All of it was done just right. He went over and beyond. Delicious pastries, poor customer service. We went in to ask about cakes for a big birthday party we're having next month. We looked at the book at the options. There was a large selection. When we decided on what cake we wanted we went up to ask about price and decorating details. The girl working there didn't know a whole lot about specific details of what they could do for a cake and wrote down the information to talk to her dad to ask him about it all and the dad is supposed to call later or Tuesday. We ordered some pastries and drinks. While we were trying to pay, the phone rang. The girl answered, "I'll call you back I'm with a customer." To us she said, "Sorry, I can't be on the phone and use the card reader at the same time." My mother-in-law gave the girl her card and the girl slid the card and gave it back and turned the card reader toward my mother in-law so she could enter her pin. It didn't go through and the phone rang again. Again the girl answered and said, "I'll call you back I'm with a customer!", and hung up. The phone rang again and she answered and said, "I'll call you back! Your call is interfering... It's in the bathroom, I haven't touched it." And hung up again. To us she said, "She called asking about a brush." My mother in-law said, "Must be a sister." The girl nodded. So the card finally went through and we sat down to eat our pastries. The pastries and drinks were delicious!! We had a cream horn and a custard turnover and for drinks we had the coconut and horchata blended drinks. After a couple minutes the girl was helping another customer and said to us, "You know I close at 3 and it's already 3.", clearly wanting us to leave. My mother in-law must have given her look or something because then she said, "But I'll close at 3:15 for you guys." So we just got our stuff and left. The girl didn't say goodbye or anything. So while the pastries and drinks were delicious, her customer service was not very good at all. It was even kind of off putting. I wonder how her dad would feel to know how she handles her customers. read more

This is the second time we've been by. Although it was 1 in the afternoon on Labor Day Weekend, they had no selection. I had a custard filled turnover; custard was good, just not much of it. Pastry was excellent. Brother ordered a jelly filled; nice fat sugar coated doughnut...spoon full of jelly. Wife didn't see anything that sparked her interest, so ended up with a little box of sprinkled.....butter cookies? Idk!? They tasted like cardboard with wax sprinkles. So bad the 2 yr old gave hers to the dog..dog wasn't impressed either. There's another bakery close to this location. I think we'll check that place out next instead! read more

I had stopped by a few months ago to talk with the baker/owner, Geraldo, about recreating a rum wedding cake from my first marriage (1980). After picking his brain, he offered up two ideas. A few weeks ago, I decided to have him make what he called his "Italian Rum Cake". I knew it wasn't going to be a replica of my first wedding's cake, but it had a number of elements that I was interested in trying. We (my most recent wife) picked it up Sat. 1/12/19 and haven't been able to stop eating it since! There was not an element of that cake that didn't show expertise, pride, and love in what this man does for a living. Visually it was flawless and just gorgeous. The texture of the sponge was soft and delicate. The flavors of the cherry custard and the pineapple custard were perfect. Not too much sugar and just the right amount of rum; light as I think it should be. A whipped cream frosting side-covered with sliced almonds, the top covered with beautiful rosettes made this cake a winner from outside to in. Just on flavor it's 10, but it looks awesome, as well, so I'd give it ANOTHER 10 just on beauty. This gentleman knows what he is doing. He really cares about what he does, and bakes from the heart. I couldn't recommend him enough for a wedding cake of your dreams. Geraldo certainly made MY dream come true!!! read more

My son bought me an Italian Rum Cake at Soltero's Bakery for my 65th birthday. I had given up of ever having a great Italian Rum Cake because no one could make it like when I was a girl and my folks would drive to Los Angeles to get one there on all of our special occasions.
