I was in the area for my cousin's high school graduation. Her parents couldn't make it because they live overseas and the COVID travel restrictions made logistics too complicated, so I was the only family there. My cousin wanted to get her hair done for Prom, and found this place on her own through internet searches. She made a reservation based on good reviews she read. We got there a bit early and they got her in right away. She showed her stylist a photo of the kind of hairstyle she wanted, which was braids in the front connecting to a bun in the back (I'm doing a poor job of describing it, but it's a fairly simple style). The stylist started doing something, then undid it because it didn't look right, then tried something else again, and was clearly struggling a bit with my cousin's Asian hair (very straight and sleek). I don't blame her for this, since our hair texture can be tricky to work with if you don't have a lot of experience with it. After about half an hour of this she asked a senior stylist for help, which I thought was very appropriate. But then the senior stylist said to my cousin, "You need to make up your mind about what you want to do, because we can't be trying a million different styles. We're wasting a lot of time." I had been watching the whole time from the waiting area, and her attitude and tone of voice with my cousin made me really angry because she was trying to blame the problem on my 17yo cousin. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make the situation worse by making them mad, thereby risking them messing up my cousin's hair. The senior stylist did end up making it work out and the final hairstyle looked good (hence the 4 stars), but her attitude the whole time trying to make my cousin feel like she had done something wrong left a bitter taste in both our mouths. read more

This salon is located in Warren Plaza and I was pleasantly surprised how professional every staff person treated EVERY client. The wash room met the Golden standard...including a great facial massage that I didn't expect and was part of my shampoo. About 11 years ago I happened to get a coupon in the mail about a hair salon close to my house. I called and Rachel was the only girl that had an opening at the time. I went to her, fell in love and I have yet to find a better more honest and caring stylist. She opened up her own salon and expanded just a few years later. I know this sounds like a cheesy bias review but let me explain. I moved to Chicago in 2007 and I have tried to find other stylists in the city and it has been a major fail. Every time I go to Cleveland I call Rachel and she makes sure to fit me in (even tho she is really busy). The prices are just perfect. Come on would you rather pay 175 for a keratin treatment or 300 plus??? She is extremely honest and that's rare. If you want a hair color and it will not be good for your hair, she will tell you instead of charging you for a triple process. I absolutely love her hair cuts. I call them the old fashioned way because she takes her time. Nowadays stylists cut the bottom part, split the hair in 3 parts in the back, pretend to give u some layers and call it a day. I have a crazy amount of hair. 6 minutes haircuts are not gonna cut it, for the lack of a better term. Not Rachel! Go to her and you will see what I mean. Now, let's talk about the fact that she is amazing at color. So innovative and so educated in the department. She even is an instructor for Matrix. Helloooo! The new salon has a separate hair washing room with beautiful colors and relaxing ambiance. The girls even give you a mini facial/massage thing after they wash your hair. What more can a girl ask for? I have suggested a few of my friends to her and they absolutely adore Rachel and her crew. Try out the salon, you WILL not be disappointed. read more

I needed a change and Rachel really came through for me. The whole team made me feel welcome, and special. Rachel took the time to assess what my goals were and explained how we could work to get me there. As a new customer, I was treated to a hair mask, and I joined their regulars in receiving a wonderful scalp massage, great hair washing station with massage chairs, and a glass of wine. I had read a review mentioning they weren't reliable with black hair. It didn't apply to me, but imagine my surprise to find the salon full of diversity both in the chairs and behind them. Clearly they must be doing something right. I was extremely pleased with my haircut. Rachel took great care in every step, executing and explaining. She was also great at leading her team in a lot of collaboration. It was not every man for himself there. It was lovely to see everyone helping make sure all the clients were receiving the best care, regardless of who client was with. And PS- I didn't go home and wash my hair, then re-do the blow out myself, I LOVED how I left the salon looking, and that's a big deal for me. read more

I've been seeing Rachel at Solstice for about 8-9 years. At first, I just needed my hair done, but over the years I have come to see the salon as a place for relaxation, laughs, and self-care. Rachel consistently does an excellent job and she is timely, professional, and hard working. Despite my poor explanations of what I want sometimes, Rachel always finds a balance between giving me "my usual" and offering suggestions for trendy things we can try. My boyfriend and I live in California and were visiting his family in Cleveland for his cousins wedding. His grandmother's hair was bothering her and she really wanted to have it cut before the wedding. She is on oxygen and gets really nervous to go on new outings. This is not one of those reviews that has an extreme biased because I secretly work at the salon or one of them is a good friend of mine. I found this salon by looking online at cleveland's top hair salons and this was ranked in the top 5. Now, historically I have not had the smoothest rides when it comes to hair salons. Usually, I wait an hour after my appointed time before they even start on my hair and I feel like just another number that is paying someone's rent. Usually they don't EVER do my hair they way I ask and I end up in a frenzy with the stylist and end up looking like mustard and ketchup. But this time was magically different! Manesha, my new hair stylist (I'm proud to say) took such good care of me. Being a natural hair person, I am picky when it comes to who handles my hair. Not everyone knows what they're doing when it comes to my natural curls! I got my hair colored as well as a half highlight and it turned out absolutely fabulous! She catered to what I HAD IN MIND and she even offered me a complimentary beverage and snack. She gave me a head message after she shampooed me/during the hair process and she LISTENED to what I had to say. I felt truly appreciated as a customer when I was there and I GREATLY recommend anyone to go in and enjoy the same treatment! I really hate to have to do this, but after my second visit here I will not be returning to Solstice Salon. They simply cannot do short African American hair although they claim to know how. It has been pretty evident on both trips to this salon that they really can't and I do take somewhat of an issue with that. The salon is otherwise clean, spacious and conveniently located and the staff is beyond friendly an accommodating but ultimately I came there for a service they simply couldn't deliver on. I posted a review previously on my first visit - my cut was ok, the perm could have been better especially since my stylist focused more on my roots/new growth and not my ends so I ended up with straight roots and curly ends and thankfully I had my own wrap lotion because they didn't have any on hand. A professional knowledgeable with short African American hair knows you must use ample amount of wrap lotions with at least 2-3 strips to set. I gave them some pointers in that first visit so I was hoping the 2nd visit would be much better. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Again, really nice people, but let's start with the wrap. Not nearly enough wrapping foam was used and then only one strip was applied to set the hair. It was pretty loose and ended up completely coming off mid-drying cycle which pretty much left my hair "gone with the wind" under the hood dryer. A sleek, flat mold was not going to happen. Speaking of the hooded dryer (and another indicator that they don't really do short African hair) it appeared to be broken. At first it was set too high above my head and then when the stylist came to adjust it about 20-30 minutes later it ended up laying flat on my head, lol. Clearly a piece of equipment they do not use often. My hair was clearly still damp, but my stylist took me from under the dryer anyway. I did overhear her saying that they were trying to close up the shop early so perhaps they were rushing to get me done since I was the last customer, I simply don't know for sure. Anyway, since the wrap wasn't done correctly and my hair was still damp, my hair would not lie flat as it should although my stylist kept trying to smooth it down. She did some trimming of my hair, but honestly I could have had a student at the Ohio City barber school do the same job for $6. She also cut some length off at the top, which I did not ask her to do, but I suppose trimming is necessary to do every once in a while. And the curl, the poor curl is somewhat of a joke. They simply use a flat iron to create very soft and loose waves which essentially blow out in the wind the minute I stepped outside the salon. I went to the park afterwards with my son just on a walk and with the humidity my hair was an absolute mess when I got home, as if I never went to the salon in the first place. There simply wasn't anything smooth, silky and shiny about my hair - it looked just as dry and dull as it did before I walked into the salon. I was not happy at all and feel I pretty much just blew $40 on a $6 haircut and the rest I could have done myself at home. I didn't create a fuss cause again, the salon would otherwise be the place the be and they are a business so they're out to make money. I would recommend them to my Caucasian and Indian friends, but not my black girlfriends with short hair at all. Very disappointing as my quest to find a professional salon that specializes in short African American hair continues. read more

I started going to solstice salon about ten months ago and I was recommended by a coworker. At first I was getting the full hair wash and massage treatment with the hot towel but eventually that stopped for whatever reason. Maybe because I wasn't getting over a certain amount of services and not one of their biggest spending customers. It seemed very professional in the beginning but eventually that went out the window too. A couple of times I felt the stylist was rushing me so she could start on another customer after me who was probably paying more money. Even though I waited an extra fifteen or twenty minutes after my appointment time. My daughter, husband and I attend the salon not on a consistent basis but quite frequently. The stylist and the owner rushed to do my hair another time because again they were running behind and this was on my appointment time. I felt like my business was not wanted and they only treat you with the best customer service if you are paying over a certain amount. There services are over priced for one especially where they are located in a plaza on warren road in Cleveland. My hair started looking like I could've done it at home nothing was really special about it and it only lasts one or two days with the keratin treatment that cost me $200.00. I was very disappointed in this salon. Don't be fooled by the drinks and the hair massage that is just to get you coming back but if you don't start paying for more expensive services you will be treated differently. read more
