If you are planning a trip to Florence, you can stop reading and just add this restaurant to your list. No need to drudge through TripAdvisor.
If you are searching for a restaurant for tonight, just start walking toward the Centrale Mercato.
Pros:
-- centrally located near the Centrale Mercato
-- focused on local sourcing of organic ingredients and delivering Tuscan focused dishes
-- menu denotes vegetarian and gluten sensitive options
-- warm, modern and inviting interior space
-- friendly, motivated staff
-- good quality/cost ratio
Cons:
-- (hard to find one)
Solo Toscano is well located and easy to find. Look for the white awning outside and the bright red walls inside. The staff is friendly especially to non Italian speakers and makes you feel right at home.
FOOD:
Started with a charcuterie board of salamis paired with local pecorino cheeses (well thought out AND different from the generic versions I've had the last week in other restaurants).
The salad was well executed: quality produce and generous in size. I may go back tomorrow for lunch to get another.
The ragu pappardelle delivered on all the flavors you'd expect, and the chicken and cauliflower dish rounded out the experience.
Chocolate cake with rosemary and sea salt = sign me up for more.
Ultimately, the true test, we were the only non Italians in the place. I think this restaurant is still pretty much undiscovered (they don't have a photo of Brad Pitt hanging on the wall yet :P).
I hope you have as great an experience as mine.
