I recently ate at St. Bernard located at Solitude Mountain for après and had a great time! The hostess and wait staff make sure we're taken care of while we snack on delicious appetizers and hearty dinners. Plus the drinks were amazing! When I let them know I needed a non alcoholic option they were happy to accommodate. The restaurant itself is extremely comfy and cozy. There is an outdoor seating area perfect for watching the sunset over the mountain peaks and a indoor area that is perfect for warming up by the fire. It is a bit pricey but resort food is always expensive. This is food that is WORTH the price!! read more

Nice restaurant nestled in Solitude Resort. Great menu selection, wine list and cocktails. There's a big fireplace in the restaurant that adds heat and ambience. Food is delicious . I ordered the Idaho trout. Crispy and flavorful. On top of potatoes and carrots. My friend ordered the beef short rib which looked and tasted amazing (I had a bite). The white cream sauce on top is horseradish and added a nice touch. The short ribs were tender and delicious. We had a late seating b so they were out of dessert by the time we were finished. Good sign that desserts were good. Will come again. read more

The waitress was so friendly and welcoming- the ambiance is warm cozy and decorated for Christmas. The pork schnitzel was OUT OF THIS WORLD i may get it multiple times this trip. The breakfast buffet at St. Bernards used to be legendary, self-serve skillets full of eggs, potatoes and bacon, along with several other options for a lighter, sweeter, or healthier meal. Now you choose between 1 of 3 options for breakfast, and their "buffet" is limited to a tray of cold bread, a couple of broken toasters, an empty coffee pot, and a bag of granola - all low quality. Came up here for brunch on the weekend. It was a nice selection of eggs, quiche, potatoes, meats, breads, biscuits and gravy, hot/cold cereals, fruit etc. and specialty items to order (waffle with compote, etc). It was surprisingly good (as it's difficult to find great breakfast up the canyon especially in the summer). Reasonably priced too. Friendly timely service. Sat outside with beautiful views of the mountains. Will definitely come back! read more

I'm not sure why St Bernard's only has 3.5 stars! We went here for dinner recently. I greatly enjoyed every dish our table ordered, and the service was great! We stayed here at the lodge, so it was in the hotel. We had mixed experiences. First, their breakfasts were not our type. Expensive, and no option to just but a small amount. Even if you just want a bagel you have to get the $20 meal. The options were minimal. I don't like eggs, and the only option was a French toast made with a sweet bread. I did not have them put the caramel sauce on top, and it was still cloyingly sweet. Lastly, the restaurant has no decaf coffee, and some of us can't use the caffeine. We are one dinner here, and liked spicy noodle dish (the only one that was not heavy looking) - but know it is really spicy. Our neighbor asked if it could be made less spicy, and was told they couldn't- the sauce was already made and the chef likes it that way. We went elsewhere after that. read more

Best place on Solitude hands down the other places didn't compare. Food and drinks were great. We got the Elk, duck and chicken and they are all great. No other place on the mountain is as good. For appetizer we recommend the truffle fries & for the dessert the flourless chocolate tart The bartender Sarah was amazing! She made a great old fashion and recommended the prefect wine for us on both occasions. read more

I the service and location is great. The beef stew was disappointing. It wasn't bad, but way closer to beef soup. Not a single substantial piece of beef. If they called it a soup I'd get it. Others has noodles, which were good. On the beer stew alone I'd give it 1 star. read more

We stopped in here for the lunch buffet after seeing a sign at the top of the Apex lift advertising it- including an 11am open time. We arrived shortly after 11 and they hardly had anything set up (tables not set, no plates or salad dressing out. They said we were welcome to get started but didn't put any of these items out. We had to ask for each thing we needed individually. The main entree(enchiladas) were lukewarm at best. They had a coffee and tea station but were out of coffee and missing hot water. We again had to ask for these items. The cookies and soup were great, the salad bar was decent but would've appreciated just a bit more variety. This place seems nice, so it's a shame that they've put so little effort into the service and execution of lunch. Disappointed. read more

I think this is my first review on Yelp, but want to recommend that other Solitude visitors who enjoy good food make sure to put this on their lists. We ate dinner here the last 3 consecutive nights and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. Absolutely delicious "buffet," which is more like a home-cooked family-style meal. Just enough options, which makes it better as there isn't any decision overload. The ambience is nice but cozy and the service/staff were extremely warm and welcoming. Solitude. Just the thought of it makes you want to go back. On a recent ski weekend to Salt Lake City, we were looking for a decent place to grab dinner, so OF COURSE off I go to Yelp. Hmm... not much going on there. Came up with 15 or so restaurants that didn't inspire much confidence. So, I went to my second option... the glossy brochure for the resorts. Uh-oh. Likely to be financially traumatic. Found the St Bernard in the section for Solitude, which I'd never been to. Apparently it was settled in a nice village-area, and was only a 20 minute drive up the mountain. Sweet! So, reservations made, off we went. We got there to find a little ski village that looked as if it was swept from the pages of a Swiss ski brochure, and inside the restaurant it was no different. This place personified classy Alpine coziness -- I was waiting for somebody to start yodeling. The service was fantastic - wonderful to see staff that truly take pride in their job. The meal started with a beef carpaccio appetizer that was amazing. I generally don't eat raw things. These raw things, however, were phenomenal. Just scrumptious. The warm, flaky bread didn't hurt, either. Now, the main course. (and this is the only negative thing you'll hear me say) My wife ordered fish, which was done very well... sablefish, if I recall. She liked it, and she's pretty picky with fish. My brother and I both ordered beef tenderloin, him medium and me medium rare. Not sure what happened, but when the food came out, both were WELL past medium well. I don't normally send food back (and I TRIED to eat it), but they'd done this to the tenderness of Firestone tires. The waiter was embarrassed, and immediately offered to re-fire our steaks. The only appropriate response, I thought. Didn't help that my wife ate while we sat looking at white tablecloth, so very quickly the waiter brought an AMAZING basil sorbet. I've never tasted it done so well. That helped. And soon thereafter our new steaks arrived, done to perfection, with comp'd dessert to help make up for the distraction. Overall, it was an excellent response to a big miss. Whether the chef was taking a nap or arguing with a spouse, doesn't really matter. However, the restaurant's response to a mistake will always differentiate some from others. And I have a feeling that St Bernard's doesn't make that mistake often. Even with the miss on the main course, this was a fantastic evening, and the atmosphere was truly second to none. I'd go back in a heartbeat, and definitely recommend trying this restaurant! read more

Delicious fine dining experience at Solitude. I read about this restaurant when we were planning our snowboarding trip to Salt Lake City and considering staying at Solitude. We ended up staying at a hotel in Draper instead, but I remembered reading about St. B's on the Solitude website and thinking I'd like to have dinner there sometime during our vacation. We came out to Salt Lake City on Valentine's Day weekend. In our haste to get our travel plans finalized I missed making a dinner reservation for us for 2/14 (doh!). I wandered over to the St. B's after a day of snowboarding and inquired with the front desk attendant at the Inn if any reservations were available for Valentine's Day (i.e. tomorrow). She went to go check and came back to tell me that 5:30PM was open. Bingo! We have a winner. **Tip: If your reservation is for 5:30PM you can pretty much have your pick of which table you want to sit at - including the cozy table right in front of the fireplace (that's what we got).** For Valentine's Day they had a special menu for the evening or you could order from their regular menu. My boyfriend and I opted to order from the regular menu (with the exception of dessert). We did the whole nine yards: two glasses of wine, shared a salad, two entrees, dessert, and coffee. Plus the chef sent out an amuse bouche (deconstructed BLT). Everything that was served to us got points for presentation, each dish looks exactly the way food looks at fancy restaurants (i.e. delicious). Recommended: -Salad Lyonnaise (includes pork belly, yum!) -Wagyu Beef Zabuton (zabuton is the cut of meat) -Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp -Broccolini Our dessert was called "Decadence" and from the Valentine's Day menu. Our server was great and the good man was tipped accordingly. I like the ambiance inside the restaurant; its fancy but not uptight. Other people were a little more dressed up than we were, but since we were eating so early I hope nobody minded our casual attire (jeans and t-shirt...). I like this place a lot and very happy they could squeeze us in at the last minute for Valentine's Day. Think about eating here if you're going to be spending the day skiing at Brighton or Solitude. Its easier than driving all the way back into town for a fancy dinner - you can have that right there on the mountain at St. Bernard's. read more

Great food great service and great selection of food. If you have time to write a bad review, get a life. Everything about this place was great and my hubby and I have dined in some swanky places. We even came here twice on our trip. The lamb was excellent, the steak with the chimichuri was amazing. We had the beet salad which was pretty good too. Their wine selection was great and interesting. Hmmmmm what else??? Their desert was crazy good. It was a banana bread/ banana foster concoction which was delish! We had to come back just for that!! But the most amazing thing was the mussels!! I was basically drinking the broth after and I'm a health and workout nut. But that broth was worth a few cheat days!! Unfortunately this place has changed dramatically for the worse. We have been coming here for years and the buffet was awesome. One trip we ate there 3 straight nights. I believe it was $40 a head for adults but worth it. They changed it to only 3 flavorless entree options / salad bar / choice of 3 desserts and it's $45 each. Price was not posted anywhere. So sad to see our favorite Solitude restaurant changing for the worse. The old way of the buffet has now changed to only a buffet of average salads meats and cheeses, and a choice of three entrees that were very average as well. It was much too over priced at $45 a person for the quality and selection of food. My sister has many food allergies and in years past the chef has catered to her needs so well. This year she was given a dry steak with potatoes and that was it. It was truly a disappointing experience since we have been coming for so long and The buffet used to be our favorite. I would suggest going to Honeycomb Grill over St. Bernard's it was not worth it. read more

Wonderful Solitude! Wow... The updated buffet (very DV style) is served fireside in an intimate atmosphere. Truly feels like you are dining at a small holiday party! Dax and Chef Tye along with the rest of the staff are more than happy to help with everything and make you feel at home! For the kids, they will prepare pasta, grilled cheese,etc. the menu is wonderfully eclectic but wonderful! We had bison steak, scallops, clam chowder with fried clams, and a fried chicken that passed my 'I'm Southern' test! Wonderful service, food and ambiance. Fantastic for date night--with a beautiful setting for a night cap right next door at the Library Bar. Fantastic experience all around! read more

St Bernards has changed from last year. The small portion buffet that use to offer an assortment of fresh dinner options for all is now limited to a reduced menu of fancy items that offer no comfort food and will leave your hungry and overpaying. Don't waste your money!! It would take too long to explain the problems with the dry lettuce, cold vinegar veggies, and non-satisfying entrees. On top of that, to serve desserts without a side of ice cream on a fudge cake, or a berry dish with ricotta cheese as opposed to a moose is just silly. Solitude tries to hard to be unique on the cuisine as opposed to giving people what they want after a day of skiing . . . Hearty meals. Instead you'll get no potatoes (but parsnips), no seafood (just a lobster fishy ravioli, no normal dish (just a fatty pork belly) no chicken (rather a specialty seasoned hen). I wish they would listen and just serve up a good dish of food but they never get it right. Service and atmosphere is great but we came to eat a normal meal and it was pure disappointment. read more

There were high highs and low lows on our dining experience to St. Bernard's, but the lows beat the highs out. The dining room is small and cozy, and although we had a reservation and there were tables available when we arrived, it took 10-15 minutes to be seated. The four of us (two couples) started with a few orders of the caviar pillows and champagne. Perfection! They were just right. Then when we were ordering our dinners, we asked for suggestions from the maitre d' -type guy, who said that the short ribs (on the special Wednesday wine menu) were the best thing he'd ever tasted. Two of ordered those, while another ordered the Ribeye and another the salmon, and we ordered the special salad of the day. We also ordered a bottle of a Pinot Noir from Burgundy. While we were waiting for it to arrive, the maitre d came back and said they were out of it, but recommended another wine (he said he'd offer it at the same price. When we tasted it, we should have sent it back, but hoped it would open up. It turned out to be from Chile, and extremely mediocre. It never opened up nicely, and had an astringent taste. (OK, our fault for accepting it. ) The salads were pretty good, with blood orange and pomegranate seeds, but too many croutons, in fact the salad didn't need croutons at all, they didn't seem to work. Also, they didn't offer bread on the table, which seemed odd for high-end European-style mountain resort dining. When the dinners came, the short ribs looked pretty unimpressive, however, the Ribeye & the salmon were standouts. They looked and tasted wonderful, and the ribeye was perfectly cooked. But the "shortribs" were a few pieces of what looked much more like gristly pot roast on a pinkish orange sauce over decent polenta. The beef was really awful, didn't look or taste like shortribs at all (and they weren't presented with the bone). The sauce was sweet with no depth of flavor at all. Neither of us ate very much of them. No one came back to check on us, perhaps knowing our dinners were an embarrassment. Although we were all engaged in great conversation, I do think we would have sent them back if a server had asked how things were. It was the worst thing I had eaten in memory. Again, I suppose we could have gotten up and found someone and asked for something else, so we bear some responsibility here. And I wonder if they ran out of the good shortribs and made a poor decision to substitute something at the last minute? Anyhow, it was so horrible, I could not get the taste out of my mouth and mind until the next day. (By the way, I had shortribs just the week before at Park City's High West Distillery, and they were SO good, I was ready for more.) Service was just okay. The ambience was nice, nothing overly special. The fire was nice, but tepid, it could have used more logs. My suggestion is definitely order off the main menu, don't try any special dinners. read more

I've eaten the best meal of my life at their evening buffet. This isn't your typical buffet. It's about $50 and the food is out of this world. Ty's famous fried chicken is to die for (if he's properly marinated it). And the other items that they rotate in and out are usually unbelievable. Highly highly recommend this place. read more

We ate here a few years ago and it was excellent. However, it seems they have changed the menu to a buffet, although it was not clear until we got there. The offering on December 20th was not good. The buffet was picked over, the trout was awful, the other offering were definitely not interesting (pasta,eggplant,over fried hen,mediocre desserts). The only good thing was the cheese tray which I could have whipped up at home. I should have asked the price after looking over the offering because I would have left. Worst $42 dollar a plate buffet I have ever had. Maybe we hit a bad night, but walking out of there with close to a $300 bill-I felt screwed. The staff was attentive and wonderful and we were impressed by them. The only reason we did not give it one star. I eat out at restaurants all over the country and this will go down as the worst dining experience for the dollar in 2018. Unfortunate! read more
