I'm the guy who walks into a jewelry store and feels very uncomfortable. After finding Solitaires on Yelp as a good local option (near work for lunch-break Christmas shopping), I took a deep breath and walked into the store. Well, I actually buzzed myself in, as they have an electromagnet lock with a remote push-button release. :) Very wise. The store is fairly narrow - wide and not very deep, with lots of windows facing Bishop. Jasper's is across the street (fitting) and Cold Stone Creamery is next door. (Googlemaps says a lash studio is on the other side, which I didn't notice at the time.) The shop is well kept and classy, with beautiful old grandfather clocks and wall clocks lining the walls. The clocks are clearly a passion of the owner's, who's name is Winston. He got most or all of them in Germany, and they're fantastic. Some are for sale, some aren't. I explained that I'm the guy who feels out of his element in jewelry stores, then went on to explain my wife had this old, beat-up ring with a stone she would like mounted in a new band. I know my wife's style fairly well, but the possibilities are endless and it was ... a little intimidating. I'd never had an old stone set in a new ring before. Winston and his trusty sidekick did an excellent job at NOT making me feel the fool and helping guide me to an option that seemed suitable. We found a classic, classy ring in a catalog (made to hold a stone), he made a call to the supplier right them and there, and he nailed down all the details with time to spare during my lunch break. For some reason when I set out on this quest, I thought jewelers had lots of rings in stock and it would be a quick turnaround to have an old stone mounted in a new ring. When I told Winston I needed it in a week, his eyes got a little big and he said it'd be tight... but that he would make it happen. And he came through. It was ready with a day to spare. Sweet relief. I'd had trouble picturing the final product based on a stock ring picture I saw in a catalog, so I was a little nervous to see how it turned out. It absolutely topped my expectations. Winston and the guy who helps him with custom work (who I did not meet) did a fantastic job. Beautiful work. It came out great. It came out so well and the ring looks so classy that I'm actually worried that the old stone's flaws (scuffs and wear) are now highlighted by the beautiful new mount. I'm going to laugh when my wife says she loves the ring - but that it needs a new stone. :) Hopefully not... Winston really came through for me - and in time for Christmas, despite my lack of foresight on the time needed to pull this off. The price seemed very fair to me, and he also gave me credit for the old, beat-up gold band that originally held the stone. Nice to not have to go somewhere else (especially somewhere of questionable repute) to try to get some cash for that. read more

I was in town for a business trip and walked into this jewelry store not really expecting to purchase anything. However, the selection of per owned Rolex and beautiful new diamond jewelry for women was terrific. The store has been in the area for quite a long time. The owner, Winston is a perfect example of a southern Gentleman. His prices are very fair, his service was perfect. He also does an extensive amount of custom jewelry made to whatever specs I want. I ended up with a pair of diamond earrings ( just because ) for my girlfriend. However I'm returning to Dallas shortly and am already considering 2 other items. Great experience! read more

I went to Solitaire's because I wanted to find a special ring for my husband. He had lost a pinky ring about a year ago and hadn't been able to find anything he liked to replace it. Winston,the owner, was extremely helpful. He showed me a couple of rings he had but they weren't what I wanted. He then started pulling out books to show me rings I could have made. I finally picked one I thought my husband would like. I brought him in to pick between it and a couple of others but he liked the one I had chosen. Winston picked out beautiful stones to finish it out and had it ready in a week as opposed to the two he had said. I can only hope my husband decides to go there for me someday. I just flew in and the new Rolex Date Just II I got from back home in LA needed a band adjustment. I got lucky and walked in to the most amazing shop. Winston knew so much about Rolex in particular that we spent 30 minutes after he had just closed talking watches! The special "pre-loved" pieces he had access to and the customization of them has gotten me so excited. Green dial, green bezel. Ice dial, brown bezel. My mind is racing with fun combinations. My family has been going to Solitaires and dealing with Winston, the owner, for a few years now. My son asked Winston to design engagement and wedding rings for his fiancé that included diamonds from his grandfather's rings. He also asked him to design a wedding ring for himself that included rubies from his grandmother's ring. They all turned out beautifully. My son and daughter-in-law were very happy. My husband bought a pre-owned Rolex from him. It was a great price and value. Additionally, from time to time, I have asked Winston to repair or restring jewelry for me. It has always been done expeditiously and at a fair price. That is especially true of a necklace that my husband bought for me in Sedona that I accidentally dropped and broke on a tile floor. Winston went out of his way to find a specialist in another state to make the repair. Again, he charged a very reasonable price for all his trouble. In summary, my whole family thinks Solitaires and Winston are great! He is always professional, personable, and fair while providing excellent service and quality.
