I was a D1 athlete in college and worked out close to 30 hours a week, so hard work outs was something that i was craving since I graduated. With graduation came extra senior 10 lbs and a new life schedule. I finally committed and tried out [solidcore] and let me tell you something, this is a brutally hard work out. From the first five minutes you start shaking and all of your muscle fibers are hurting. I loved it. Besides this being an extremely challenging workout, the vibe in the new AdMo studio is amazing. The lights, the great sound system and all of the great coaches there are amazing and make it worthwhile coming into the studio. I love the combination of dim blue lights, great tunes and a hard work out to either start of your week or end your weekend. In addition, the studio lead at AdMo Charly W. is amazing and will answer any of your questions, have a great playlist ready for the work out, and make sure you leave one of her classes crawling.... Solidcore is unmatched in its ability to deliver a high intensity, mentally and physically challenging workout, that is also low impact. I only buy packages intermittently as it's pretty expensive but I always miss it whenever I run out, and I always notice a change in my body whenever I start back up again. The general solidcore class is a 50 min full body workout, then they also offer arms+abs. I was a little intimidated of taking this since my arms+abs already get a great workout in the standard class, but I was surprised by how much I liked it. I teach cycling and I run so usually my legs are pretty sore, but my abs and upper body don't get as much attention. I think a lot of people tend to do more lower body stuff so arms+abs is a great offering. My favorite instructors are Charly (studio manager), Johanna, Erin, Sarah, and of course the boss Anne Mahlum. Anne Mahlum is the owner of solidcore so if I really need someone to kick my ass I try to make it to her class. What I like about Charly, Erin, Johanna, and Sarah is that they really utilize the variety that the meagaformer offers. It's not just "do this, then do it on the other side" which really bores me. They incorporate creative transitions and insert little surprises to keep things interesting, and they always switch up the moves. It's expensive, but it's worth it, especially if you have any kind of knee issue or something where high impact activities are hard on your body. In my perfect world I would do the 8/classes per month membership and go twice a week, I can't really afford something that unfortunately :( read more

Although I was afraid/slightly skeptical to try Solidcore, I went to the Admo location and was more than pleasantly surprised ! The coaches are well informed and extremely friendly (especially when you feel like you're too tired to keep going- they support you the whole way!) I highly recommend this location! The rumors are true, [solidcore] is one of the toughest workouts that I have ever done. But it was SO rewarding, and you can see why its addictive! The 50 minute class moves very quickly and the instructors are super high energy! At the AdMo location you have the opportunity to have chance to workout with Anne, the founder, and I was never so sore in my life the next day-that's a good thing! I would stress that even though its hard, if you are considering it don't be shy and intimidated, give it a try! You can push youreslf further than you think and there are always supports and modifications. The price is a deterrent, its expensive. I've never been so happy to be so exhausted. It's the hardest workout I've ever done, but also the most satisfying, effective, and addictive. The energy is infectious and the community is actually a community. My friends always talk about needing to get in shape before they try [solidcore]; then I bring them and they realize that there is no way to get in shape for it other than diving right in. This is by far one of the best workouts I have done in my entire life. [Solidcore] is a life changing class that gives you clear, defined results in a relatively short amount of time. For me it has always been a challenge to build core strength but the nature of the [Solidcore] workout forces you to engage your core constantly and equally to ensure proper form in every single exercise you do on the machine. I took my first Solidcore class yesterday with Erin S. She was extremely friendly and introduced me to the machine and some basic moves before our class began, which eased a lot of my fears as a first-timer. This workout was unlike anything I've ever experienced - I was dripping sweat about 2 minutes into the workout and wondering what the heck I had gotten myself into. Even though I struggled through the workout, Erin never made me feel embarrassed or judged, but encouraged me instead. After the workout, I felt so proud of myself and my body that I had gotten through the very intense workout. I'm incredibly sore this morning, but I plan to buy a class pack and can't wait to come back! read more

Hands down the best work out you can get done in less than hr! Absolutely love the staff and support/encouragement I get when I'm in class. After being an avid yogi/yoga sculpt junkie, I felt like I hit a plateau and wanted to step up my workout routine. I had heard AMAZING things about solidcore from so many people that i just had to see what the buzz was about. After the first class (with Erin, who is absolutely exceptional) i was completely addicted. I had experience with pilates reformers but this was on a whole other level. What I love most about [solidcore] is the community atmosphere which elevates the experience and makes you want to go even further into each position. Also, high fives are always a perfect way to end things :) The price is worth it because there really isn't another workout around like it. I may feel like every muscle in my body is dead after (which is kind of the point) but I have never felt stronger. I will be returned weekly!! read more

I took the 7am class with Erin this morning and I think I'll be sore for days! Nonetheless, it's a great way to wake up in the morning. The studio is very clean (I've also been to the Cathedral Commons one, which is nice too!) and the machines are well taken care of. Erin took the time to demo some of the trickier moves for those of us who are relatively new to the practice, which was helpful. And then we started... Within minutes I was sweating. Erin kept reminding us to move slowly and coached us through the movements, counting down the time we had left to hold a pose or pulse through something. She was encouraging, giving us modifications to make things easier, but also challenging us to hold a pose and push through it. Throughout the class, she was very attentive, offering assistance with alignment. I left class feeling alive and like I had a great full-body workout. Solidcore is without a doubt one of the most (if not THE most) challenging workouts I've done. It's definitely on the pricier side of workouts for me, but I have never done anything like it and I can feel muscles I didn't know I had. This was my second class this morning, and for new students they offer a package at $125/5 classes, which is worth it! read more

The Adams Morgan Solidcore studio is amazing. I've been to a few other solidcore studios and every time I find myself drawn back to the original (Adams Morgan). The intensity of the workout I get here is a lot more difficult than I find at other studios (even though they aren't easy by anyone's definition of a workout). The workout here is a low-impact, high-resistance plank/lunge/squat based pilates routine and even after 7 months I still get my butt kicked. If it ever gets easier, I just add a few more pounds of resistance to my routine. While I've worked out hard here, I've also met some incredibly motivating individuals and found coaches who have helped me grow in my personal health, both physically and surprisingly also mentally. This workout has helped clear my head when I need it, much like a good long run without the impact. I've always been looking for low impact, high intensity workouts and every one I tried didn't seem to fill the void. I find myself sweating hard after a few minutes here and feeling tiny muscles rip apart and rebuild on a day to day basis. I walk in terrified and walk out grateful that I completed this entire 50 minute workout. Every day feels like a new challenge. Although it can be a little daunting for new clients, if you ramp up to a few classes a week you will definitely see massive changes in your core strength and flexibility. I know I was a little intimidated the first time I came because it was tough. I took five days off after the first class, but found myself coming pretty regularly after 4 weeks. Faults? Some small ones, but nothing to gripe on yelp about. I feel like i get value for money in the unlimited package. The studio is adequately clean and organized. The instructors are available and willing to help correct you when you misalign your moves and talk about ways to modify things to make them adjust to your individual needs. I wanted to personally call out some coaches for helping me, but really they're all amazing and have helped me push myself in different ways. Give any of them a shot! Arrived at the 8,30 pm class on Monday 18th april at 8,33 and the door was locked. The instructor wouldn't open the door. I signed up for the class at 8,11 pm and rushed over using uber. I moved to DC a few months ago and was looking for a strength training workout to complement my cardio (running, mostly). When I nervously signed up for my first class late November'17 after reading that it was the "hardest workout ever", I had never used a reformer before (the machine used in the workout) and it did take me a few classes to adjust to the moving parts and to start following the instructions of the coaches (as opposed to whipping my head wildly around trying to copy what my peers were doing). But I kept going, it kept getting better, and now I am almost 20 classes in and taking Arms and Abs (the slightly more advanced class) every week in addition to the regular class, and totally, incorrigibly addicted to this workout in a flag-waving, crazy fan, I -want-everyone-to-experience-the-high kinda way. I obviously am far from having mastered it in any way and I guess that's kinda the point with this workout - it always remains challenging - but instead of half-dreading walking to the Adams Morgan studio (through the first few classes), I now look forward all day to the class when I have one scheduled. I decided to write this review now (as opposed to when I have taken more classes) because for those who are considering if they should take it up, it is sometimes harder to relate to those who have been doing any particular workout for a long time because you always feel like they can say it's great because they are great at it after having been doing the workout for such a long time. So here's my bulleted takeaways as a relatively new fan of solicore and why you should definitely try a class: a) The workout is incredibly intense but because it is that, and also because it is really fast paced, the 50 minutes go by faster than any workout class I have ever been part of. So if you're dying, just remember it will be over in a flash. b) The coaches are all warm, friendly, supportive, and encouraging. I never thought that would be that important as long as the workout was physically demanding, but actually, when you are basically struggling to not die in the middle of a move, that is one of the only things that helps. The high fives in the end really help too. It's this we-are-all-in-this-self-made-hell together mentality that keeps you going through to the end. c) Even if you feel like you won't ever get better at understanding the moves in the first few classes, keep going! I did, in a surprisingly short time. You will a 100% get better if you keep going. I really struggled (and am still somewhat struggling sometimes) to isolate my belly muscles during some of the moves but have started getting better over time. d) Most classes have people ranging in experience - from coaches taking the classes to people who are at their second or third classes. That knowledge is comforting - knowing that you won't be the only one embarrassing yourself e) You will probably have a hard time following the coaches' instructions through the course of the workout in the beginning. This will again, a 100% get better if you keep going and start getting used to the moves and the instructions. f) Start with two classes a week instead of one - it will get easier (relatively) faster. I started with once a week but encouraged by Jordan (an awesome coach), started taking it twice a week which helped build muscle memory faster. If I had time I would take three a week! g) It is expensive. But probably the MOST value-for-money you will get from any workout. And finally, this workout will empower you almost like no other. I have taken many many other classes and I used to race long-distance in college. It is perhaps the only class I have taken that gives you that end of the finish line feeling when you are done - mentally and physically, I feel so strong and triumphant at the end of each workout and I think it is that feeling of strength that I am now addicted to. You leave amazed that your body could do something like that and proud and grateful that it can. Thank you Solidcore! read more

Where to even begin with a review of [solidcore]... I'm a group fitness instructor who teaches a weightlifting class, so strength and confidence aren't an issue. Well, weren't... until I met [solidcore]. A friend asked, "How is it different than Pilates?" I told her, "Well, it's like Pilates, but torture." And I mean that in the best way possible. If you like a challenging workout, this is for you. If you want to build strength and confidence, this is for you. If you're timid and shy, and don't like hard workouts, this is for you, because you need it. Just don't judge it on one class alone. The first class will CRUSH you. Don't worry, you'll eventually condition to it. You won't conquer it, the machine (aka Sweatlana) wins every time, but you will improve over time. And a very strange thing will happen. You'll want to go more. You'll stare down Sweatlana before each class and tell her "show me what you've got." Each class becomes an opportunity to get that much better, that much stronger, that much more confident, and gain just a little more ground on Sweatlana. Don't get your hopes up, she'll still defeat you every time. But in the process, you'll start to notice that you can take on harder challenges, your core is stronger, simple planks and crunches are now laughable. And while all this happens, you'll become part of the [solidcore community]. You'll grow attached to the coaches, thank them for the punishment, and ask for more. After class, you'll high-five the people next to you, congratulating each other on surviving another duel with Sweatlana. Your muscles will be completely smashed, but you'll have fire in your eyes, and eagerly await your next chance to go a little longer, push a little harder, lunge a little deeper. And THAT's when you know you're [hooked]. read more

My journey with [solidcore] began in October 2014 and I can honestly say [solidcore] has changed my life. I know that may sound dramatic but it's true. As someone who has considered herself fit, I came into [solidcore] with a cautious but pretty arrogant attitude to my first class. I got my ass whooped that day. [solidcore] taught me about humility but also set the bar high for me and what I could achieve. It has made me stronger both physically and mentally and At 40, I'm in the best shape of my life. The mental and psychological focus you have to have in class is empowering. The amazing [solidcore] community is filled with self-motivated people who take 100% responsibility for themselves. I share that philosophy so I appreciate that very much and am drawn to these people who expect a lot out of themselves. Also, instead of being skinny I'm focused on being a fit badass so this philosophy works in my favor. The coaches are approachable, motivating, and continuously cheer for you throughout class. I am not a big work-out person, to say the least. I took this class on a gamble (pressured by my colleagues). Hands down, best decision ever. The instructor, Kristen, was fantastic. She was so motivating and really kept my energy up! I'm truly not a very "in-shape" person but she didn't shame me the way I thought I would be against all my peers who go way more often than me. I'm not sure if this will be the best work out method for me (because I really do hate to work out) but I'll definitely be attending more classes that Kristen instructs! read more

An amazing workout from start to finish. The studio is high energy, great music, lovely space. The coach I had was brilliant -- clear, crisp instruction, no pauses (such a challenge for many megaformer studios), and like magic, right beside you when you needed a little extra encouragement. I've been a workout fiend for 25 years -- currently, big on spinning and power walking; SolidCore is an amazing complement to those workouts. I'm also recovering from lower back surgery and this workout has helped in my recovery and managing the chronic pain.
