They expect you to have some knowledge of the VERY DANGEROUS WEAPON that you are looking to purchase. Seems fair enough to me, but what you need to know if that this comes with a bit of an "attitude" that might not be for you. Some things you should know: how to hold a gun, where to point a gun, how to check if it's loaded/unloaded, safety switches, and definitely don't make stupid jokes about killing anyone or anything. They take that s*** very seriously and it's not funny. Anyway, I got myself a new toi!! Terrible experience due to a sales person named Justin. I purchased a holster for my firearm that I was preparing to attend a CCW class with. He told me it fits and briefly showed me by putting my pistol inside of it. I am new to this whole thing so I didn't question him. Immediately upon arriving to my CCW class two hours later, the instructors assessed the holster and said that that is not the correct holster for my firearm and it is not a safe and secure fit. I told them that the guy at the solar tactical said it was for this pistol and that he showed me. They proceeded to look into it further, and confirmed that in fact, it is not a safe holster for my firearm and just because it fits, does not mean it securely locks in place. I returned to solar tactical within their return policy with an unused holster. A gentleman by the name of Brian was helping me, when Justin overheard our conversation, and spoke very loudly across the room where several other customers were standing just to confront me and tell me that I am calling him a liar. This was absolutely unprofessional and highly uncalled for. Brian proceeded to pull me aside and help me with the return. He even apologized on behalf of Justin and said that he would handle things. Getting my CCW and had my sites on a handgun that they had in stock, but also had a pretty damn good price on for Memorial Day weekend. I tried to get in early, because I haven't bought a new gun in over 20 years and know it's a bit of a process now, but got held up and ended up walking in 25 minutes before closing. These guys did not give me the stare down that you would expect or even blink an eye, but they just came together as a team to get me processed and out of there in about 20 minutes. All this while, again, as a team, securing all firearms to shut down the shop. These guys are the real deal. read more

So me and my buddy Michael were at the Livermore shooting range this past Saturday. We came unprepared because it was a requirement that your rifle is equipped with a scope of some sort. Michael was breaking in his brand new Fabrique National AR-15 rifle without a scope on it. If this place could be more welcoming then yes maybe my friends and l will try again. Others say this place has an ongoing theme of having so-so customer service. when I went into Solar Tactical I was seeing bad customer service at its best. The people working there seem not to care about anything that has anything to do with the customers. I went in for a PPT, the guy said he only does PPTs at 10:00 o'clock. There is nothing in their website about that, or posted in the store. The clerk just walked away saying it was their policy. They have the best selection out of the two stores. But workers are a bit rude and aren't very helpful at all. They also require two proofs of address for ppt which none of the 3 ffls I've been to have ever required from me. Unnecessary extra rule. Awesome group of dudes. Came in because my ar15 wouldn't function correctly post installation of the hellfighter juggernaut ca compliant kit I installed on it. Wish I knew they sold the kit there, I would have bought it from them. They immediately looked at my rifle, and fixed it on the spot free of charge. They even offered to the mount the optics I had. What I like the most is how knowledgeable everyone is, easy to talk to, and their prices on everything. Guns fishing and other stuff is a joke, other then the range avoid them at all costs. Got the same brand of .556 from solar tactical for half the price. Will never go anywhere else for ammo or parts! read more

Solar tactical Livermore vs Solar Tactical Castro Valley store are night and day. Customer service wise; is about 1/10. One fella is my only acceptation bc he took his time to really understand what I needed, other than that; the other workers were slightly rude and gave off an asshole vibe when I asked a simple question. Made me feel belittled and dumb when asking those questions; mind you I've been shooting for about 6 years now. I know it's not much, but I'd like to say I know my fair share around a firearm and being in Solar Tactical Livermore sight was just not it at all. If your looking for a great deal, great time, and a welcoming place, check out there Castro Valley Location; staff there are 10/10 with best deals and best customer service. Love the entire staff , as soon as we walked in we where helped that made us feel very wanted and welcomed. They answered all the questions we had with no problem . Very respectful and had a lot of knowledge of their products Nicholas , Chris & Justin ( I'm not sure if that's his name . But he had hair and a full beard very hard to miss where amazing they are the three that helped us actually purchase out handguns the environment was light and friendly being a gun store I would have never expected the experience we had today , we will definitely be back and refer you guys to other people . Helped me retake my test because my FSC expired and purchased a new handgun from them. Went in to check out a sig pistol a couple weeks ago, was met with a guy who either hated his job or hated me but all i could get out of him was grunts and vague responses. I looked at the pistol, almost felt bad for asking him to take it out but i decided to take my business elsewhere. I'm not spending $1,500 at a store where dude can't even be bothered to talk. If you ever go, avoid the scrawny guy with dark hair, kind of lethargic looking, who grunts a lot. Rather, avoid this location altogether, to their castro valley location, or 'the vault' in mountain view. Might have better luck there. read more

I'm all about supporting local business, but this place customer service and prices are ridiculous. I did a few PPT here, they obviously don't want my business, their attitude states it all. I would be first in line and they would go help everyone else first and when they finally get to me, the attitude is off the roof. "So your just here to make money off of us eh? Have you even buy anything from here ever?" Those are the words of the associate who helped me. Yes I've previously been a customer, and not no more. I was selling my pistol and and to look up for a close gun store the performs PPT's. I chose Solar Tactical for its convenience in location; just off Vasco Road. I first called the store to inquire about PPT's and they said that there is no need for an appointment. When I came into the store, I was a little early, but one of the sales rep already helped me by starting out the PPT process. Overall, it was a very smooth process and the guys behind the counter were really approachable and friendly; none of those 'high horse' attitude was ever detected in this store. Solar Tactical also have decent selection too; they had an SP01 in stock, a few 1911's (some in 9 to boot) and a plethora for rifles: AR's IWI Tavor's Kriss Vectors, etc. On top of that they also have a small amount of reloading supplies available, powders, primers, and a few bullets. The price was okay; it was enough for me to seriously consider between just driving to Solar Tactical, or driving for much longer into Central Valley get the lowest price if I were in search of a pistol. Overall, Solar Tactical is a solid 4 stars. read more

This was my first time using their services and the guys there could not have been kinder. I worked mainly with Matt, the gun smith onsite today, and he was awesome. He put in Trijicon night sights onto my Springfield (which is notoriously tricky if one doesn't know what they're doing) and he did a fantastic job; super clean and not a single scratch. I've heard lots of good things about Solar Tactical. Today I saw why. I arrived at 1100, when the shop opens. Within minutes, there was a lot of "dudes" hanging out or buying. As I entered, I was greeted a Good Morning promptly by various staff, and then, "Can I help you with anything?" How nice is that!? I noticed that everything was clean and very well organized! The walls were full with various arms for home and self defense. The floor had stacks of bulk ammo in various calibers for sale and were reasonably priced. Accessories and more of various accessories, "furniture" from MagPul, MOLLE gear, cleaning supplies, magazines and other "stuff!" Solar Tactical is very well stocked with "black" rifles, AR & AK, shotguns, and some pistols. They have some AK & AR's lowers, blank receivers, and various rifles and other shotguns. I was surprised to see how well stocked in these times, due to all of the hoarders buying up everything such as ammo! Sorry that I didn't take any pictures this time, they had a rush of Americans that need supplies and tools! :) Support small businesses, and your 2nd Amendment right to bear arms! read more
