This guy is a quack. He gave medicine to a 6 year old, for over a year, that is only approved by the FDA for 18 years old and over. And he had my daughter medicated and diagnosed wrong for 2 years, causing her life to be a living hell. After I got her away from this money-hungry quack and got her properly diagnosed and medicated she did much better. DON'T DO IT...NO DOCTOR MAKES YOU COME BACK EVERY MONTH ONCE YOU ARE STABLE. My primary care physician recommended me to Dr Chad Collum a couple of months back. In my past experience, I have found a lot of doctors in Dr. Collum's specialty to be sort of distant and mighty. Dr. Collum is completely the opposite. He is so kind, warm and caring to all of his patients. He really listened to my concerns and needs and came up with a great solution for me. Every time I walk into his office I feel like I'm just chatting with a friend. Anytime I have a question and email Dr. Collum I hear back extremely quickly, directly from him. Although he is incredibly busy, I never have trouble getting a lunch break appointment if I schedule in advance. The woman at the front desk is also always very warm and helpful. The waiting area is always clean and tidy. I could not recommend Solace or Dr. Collum anymore highly. He is the bomb! read more

Dr Patel has been treating me since I was 23/24. I am now 39. He is always willing to listen and I trust his clinical judgment whole heartedly. I believe the disconnect with these other reviews is that it is necessary to keep in mind that a psychiatrist discusses symptoms and symptom management and are not there as a therapist to discuss lifelong traumas. Many times patients may need the help of a psychiatrist in addition to talk therapy from a therapist. I find his humor has always made me smile despite not being in a good place emotionally. He has always been there for me when I needed help and I know I can confide in him as my mental health physician. I trust that I can reach out to him for help, when I need, at any time. I honestly wish I could have had him as a father. Thank you Dr Patel for all the years you have put up with me. I have been seeing Dr Patel for several years, and he is a good and competent doctor. My complaint/issue is similar to many others -- the front desk. I have to call at least twice, if not more than that, and leave voicemails each time just to do routine things like reschedule an appointment. Just today, I called again after leaving a message over two days ago to reschedule my standing appointment for next week, and I had to call yet again. You can never get in touch with someone. This was not always the case, things were really good and I felt cared-for by the office staff until they moved the Plano location to the new office, since then it has been downhill. read more

I was referred to Dr. Patel when I was weaning off my anti-depressant and it was a waste of my money. Dr. Patel is incredibly detached -- I felt he was cutting me off and not wanting to hear my history and where I was mentally, but rather chat me up in a borderline flirtatious way and offer completely unhelpful information like (and I can't make this up): "My friend's wife killed herself when she got off Zoloft. But anyway, that doesn't pertain!" LIKE. WHAT? Zoloft wasn't my drug, but still. Like that's the EXACT thing a person wants to hear in his office, right?! My god. It was so unprofessional. He also doesn't make eye contact. He looks at his computer screen the entire time, typing. It was just so clinical and cold. read more

I waited several weeks to see a therapist and made the mistake of scheduling an appointment with Doctor Patel. They told me the day before my appointment I needed to fill out 11 forms or my appointment with be cancelled. I contacted them and told them I would not be able to get the paperwork filled out as I was not home. I spoke to Rebecca who said it was critical they get a copy of my insurance card prior to appointment and needed to have all other paperwork completed prior to appointment. . I immediately sent a copy of my card. I went online prior to my appointment to fill out my forms. My appointment still showed as "Confirmed." I submitted my paperwork 30 minutes before appointment (This is the type of paperwork that is handed to you on a clipboard and you fill out when you show up to your first appointment.). I realized that none of the countless random emails and texts I received from Solace, none provided instructions on how to join the online appointment. I call in, someone gives me instructions, I get online on time and wait 15 minutes as the screen said "Your session will begin soon." After waiting, I called back and was told my appointment had been cancelled because they had only received the forms 30 minutes ago. Keep in mind, this is "THERAPIST" who's patients desperately need help. They are in the wrong practice and are everything but "solace." read more

I went to Solace Counseling seeking treatment for depression and anxiety that has overwhelmed me since I was a teenager. Now in my 50's, I've been on several different medications in addition to talk therapy for over 10 years with only limited relief; at times none at all. I contacted another facility in Dallas that offered TMS treatment. I was told I need to be evaluated by their psychiatrist who was not covered by my insurance. After less than 30 minutes and being interrupted 3 times by his cell phone, he was now diagnosing me with something different than my own psychiatrist over 10 years. Suicide, once again, became a better answer for my defective brain. Not wanting to give up, my husband researched other avenues for treatment while I cried and silently felt angry at myself for being a burden. We later found out this was a scam to get more out-of-pocket money. In his research, my husband found Solace Counseling. He begged me to meet with the treatment coordinator at their Dallas location, Carla Weatherford, just to hear what she had to say. She explained how TMS Therapy could help me and answered our questions about how Solace was different from the other facility. There was never any pressure to sign up and we left with a book written by a lady who went through the treatment before it was approved by insurance companies as well as other helpful information. I found out that this was going to be much more affordable than I was originally told and that my insurance would pay for a larger portion than what I had been told. Also, Solace would treat me based on my own psychiatrist's recommendation. After meeting Dr. Patel, getting my psychiatrist's approval of him, the facility, and TMS, and speaking with Carla, I was cautiously optimistic. Carla was with me at each session, monitoring my progress and making adjustments as needed. She patiently answered all my questions and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. Other than some slight discomfort at first, I never experienced any pain or anything that made me want to jump up out of the chair and run screaming for the door. I slowly began to feel better and one day I was surprised to see that everything looked brighter and more colorful outside. Still cautious, I thought it was just the same old me having a "good" day. But day by day it continued. When I did have a couple of overwhelming life experiences that caused me to once again melt in a puddle of tears, I became concerned that the treatment wasn't working. I discussed this with Carla who then asked me a few questions and helped me realize that this was normal. "Normal" people experience sadness, frustration, exhaustion, and anger. The difference now for me was that the puddle of tears that threatened to suck me in for weeks or months was now just something that lasted for a day or two or, even better, an hour or two. I was now able to pull myself out of that emotional state and carry on like a "normal" person. I have nothing but good to say about my experience at Solace with Carla, Dr. Patel, and TMS Therapy. Carla took care of all the insurance and financial issues, setting us up on a comfortable payment plan for portion. Even the receptionists, Jennifer and Marina, made me feel welcome every day when I arrived; at times rushed because I didn't want to get out of bed that day. They never made a negative comment about my disheveled appearance; instead surprising me with something positive and upbeat. As a result of TMS Therapy I've been able to reduce some meds and hopefully, in time I'll be able to reduce more. I'm sleeping better than ever, have more energy, and more of an ability to see others outside of myself. Before TMS I was consumed with how I was going to fake it through my day or my life so I didn't continue to inconvenience or let down those who loved me. It was a struggle trying to cover up my mental health issues so others wouldn't notice. I was in a constant downward spiral. I highly recommend TMS Therapy at Solace Counseling for anyone whose life has been disrupted by ongoing major depression and high anxiety. These insidious and invisible mental disorders negatively impact on your work, relationships, focus, memory, and your desire to do anything other than sleep. More importantly, they can lead to thoughts of suicide or, as it was in my case, actually planning your own suicide. Wow.. I'm floored and still in shock. I just moved here and was looking for a doctor to help me taper off a benzodiazepine. After reading reviews about his experience with people who are addicted to prescriptions I decided to give Dr. Patel a try. I really want to get off this drug safely and with minimal withdrawl symptoms. With that being said I wanted to continue my slow taper from xanax which I have started about a month ago. I have tapered down to .25(the smallest pill) and wanted to do another 2-3 week stint at half that, then down to an eighth. I've done so much research on how to taper. Read the Ashton manual etc. I am pretty confident that this is the best way for me and my body. The minute I entered the office I just thought it was strange. People in and out of his office within 10-15 minutes. Red flag. Not that I like to spend a lot of time in a doctors office but usually you're in there long enough to have a conversation about what's going on. The moment I entered his room I guess he overheard me telling the receptionist to change my first name in the computer to the one I actually go by. He said that in here you are to go by your legal name no exceptions . Um ok? It's just my first name. I thought he would greet me and shake my hand etc.. The normal thing you do when first meeting a patient. He didn't. He didn't even ask what was going on. I tried to start out but instead of listening to what I had in mind or really letting me talk at all Dr. Patel read my notes from my prior visit with his nurse practitioner and decided I was a drug addict. The exact words I believe we're "you're acting like a drug addict" all because I requested to taper off a small amount. I am no drug addict. I want more than anything to be off of this med. It no longer serves me, it actually makes me sick. But I am not comfortable jumping from that high of a dose(even if it is the smallest pill). Anyone who's been on a benzo and has experienced withdrawls would get what I'm saying. I don't know if it was just a bad day or if maybe he is used to dealing with people who doctor shop for prescriptions. But I felt violated and insulted. No doc has ever treated me that way. It ended with him giving me a script for three more xanax pills and him telling me "Do it your way!! Taper then if you think you're so smart". Thanks you douche I think I will. And FYI just because you have a license doesn't mean you're a god. You're not better than anyone, and if this way of treating people is the tactic you use then I feel sorry for you and anyone who crosses your path. read more

The fact that Dr. Patel opened a Solace Office in Plano is a Miracle. This man is highly intelligent and caring. He does not only write your prescription and send you on your way, he truly cares about his clients. I am currently being treated for opiate addiction and with the help of Dr. Patel and his Staff I have been 100% opiate free for over a month now, and happy about it! I have never experienced this kind of joy in my life and if not for Dr. Patel and Peggy (his warm and friendly and very helpful receptionist) then I would not be here today.
