Once he checked in, for the most part (after a bit of settling in) things went well. The therapists and directors could not have been more frank, mostly kind & empathetic. We had our moments of disagreeing but always resolved issues. Some turnover in the house managers which I gather is to be expected due to the nature of the residents. It can't be easy managing teenagers to adult men in a house all living side by side with their addictions. Chapter House (aka sober living) literally saved my son's life. Seven years of hell with his addiction, jail, DWI & almost dying tripped something in his brain to get & stay sober. He went to SL kicking & screaming but in a few weeks he acclimated and did the work. There was a lot of work too. IOP, AA meetings, chores, therapy, getting a job, no outside contact...on & on but he did it. I know if he had not gone to SL he would not be here today & I am grateful for Chapter House & their honesty to not only us but my son. It's not for the faint hearted. Family must do their part financially & emotionally but in the end we have our son back and for that we are eternally grateful.

T.C.R.C. was an amazing experience. First of all Turtle Creek Recovery Center is located in the…read moreheart of Uptown Dallas in an old 3 story Southern mansion built in the year 1900. It is a 28 day program. T.C.R.C. requires negative COVID test results in hand when arriving and recommends filling all scripts with a 30 day supply of your meds. The staff was exceptional, held meetings all day Monday - Friday and on Saturday and Sunday as well (just not as many). The mansion was clean, food was great...all done by clients. From what I can recall, the schedule was something like this: Monday - Friday 6AM was breakfast (cereal) & 1st Med Call 7:45AM was morning Meditation (basically roll call Mood, Affirmation Quote, etc) 8AM - 9AM was chores / cleanup 9AM - noon was meetings (AA, NA, CA and in house staff led meetings). Noon - Lunch prepared and served by clients 1PM - 5PM was meetings (AA, NA, CA and in house staff led meetings). 2PM was afternoon Med Call 5PM was dinner 8PM was evening Meditation 9PM was last Medication call, temperature check and snacks. 10:30PM was lights out. Saturday and Sunday we started later and had a hot breakfast on Sunday Morning. Sweet Tea and Coffee all day everyday. 7 smoke breaks a day, vapes are allowed and there is USUALLY community cigarettes. T.C.R.C. has TONS of movies, books for idle time, 2 large TVs downstairs with Internet access on them so the staff allowed us to play YouTube music on 1 of the TVs (Group Room) while the other TV usually had sports or News on it (Boring). So we were jamming out Metallica, Pearl Jam, etc. during idle times. The kitchen also has a radio so the clients would be jamming out 97.1 The Eagle rock while preparing meals which added to the kewlness. Turtle Creek Recovery Center is NOW an ALL male facility except for Staff. There is 1 restroom downstairs for client use, 1 Handicap room equipped for 2 with shower and restroom. There are 3 bathrooms on 2nd and 3rd floors with shower / tub and 1 handicap room on 2nd floor as well with private bathroom / shower / toilet. Typically 3 males are assigned to each room, the beds are very comfortable and 2 windows per room. I had a nice view of some trees overlooking the One Uptown Condos building. After a person has been there 3 - 4 weeks, the staff tries to assign a private room for that person which is really nice. I was there for Christmas 2020 and New Years 2021 and the staff hosted a WONDERFUL Christmas meal from Cowboy Chicken, had homemade dishes, we played all sorts of games (Christmas Bingo, Pin the nose of Reindeer, etc) and even gave us all really nice Christmas gifts (Knit hat, long wool socks and an Old Spice men's kit of Body Wash, Deodorant & Body Spray).

This place killed my son! They promised structure, accountability and supervision.. My son 12 days…read moreout of rehab, 50 miles from home, failed a UA, the house manager kept it a secret with no consequences. According to his location, he did not leave the home on days 15-17. On day 17 someone, most likely in the home, gave my son a fatal dose of fentanyl. He laid on the cold hard floor of a bathroom (in-between two bedrooms SHARED BY ATLEAST 5-6 men) for more than 8 hours before anyone checked on him. Some said they heard a loud thud around 11pm. NO CHECk, Shower running 8 hours, NO CHECk, Not 1 man had to pee all night? No curfew, no bed checks, no house manager, no buddy system. After an opioid relapse- any one with even an ounce of addiction knowledge would know that the addict is going to be sick, fiending, struggling..Yes, I know they are grown men, but this place was suggested by the treatment center. No increased measures to protect the residents, no increased accountability, no immediate drop off at detox? So many missed opportunities to protect vulnerable residents. They knew my son was dead when they called me, but said "they were trying to revive him..He was purple,bloated and stiff when they found him. We jumped in the car to head that way, hoping to at least be at the hospital soon after the ambulance.. almost 2 hours and in the vicinity, I called to ask what hospital he was taken to.. it seemed so strange that there were no updates after so much time had passed. My entire life was shattered that morning 12/19/2024. IF your loved one goes to this place, they are at risk. And on top of that. They say they do not even have any insurance. If your loved one is hurt or injured by an unstable resident or even just an accident in the home, or the unfortunate way my baby was taken from me. They have ZERO liability coverage. I've hired 1 lawyer, and am about to hire a second..maybe even a third if I have to. This place needs to take accountability. At the very least, there should be measures put in place to prevent this from happening to another family. I think the biggest slap in the face was the leaders, standing there, looking me in the eyes and swearing, "THERE WERE NO RED FLAGS" '"WE HAD NO REASON TO SUSPECT ANYTHING WAS WRONG" " HE WENT TO BED EARLY, BY 10, INSTEAD OF STAYING UP WITH THE GUYS" These were all lies. He was dead by 11 pm. People were still up. 10 men in the house. 1 bathroom in the middle of two bedrooms with doors to each room, 3 men to a room? A failed UA just a few days prior? We all know there would have been slurring, nodding out, or other behavior changes that were obvious. My son lay there all alone on the cold, hard floor, dying. 53 days in rehab, 17 days at Cardinal House.

This place gave me my husband back. When he moved in, things were really hard -- for him and for…read moreour family. I saw him find purpose, accountability, and a real sense of peace that he hadn't had in a long time. He's grown so much since being there, and I honestly believe this home played a huge part in saving his life.
