The cilantro margarita is so refreshing! But you have many creative margaritas to choose from if you are not a cilantro fan.

I highly recommend Sol de Mexico for its relaxed, festive atmosphere, friendly service, and beautifully prepared, delicious food. The other night, a friend and I shared the guacamole and chips, ceviche, and shrimp dishes, and every bite was outstanding. Their margarita selection is especially fun--I always start with the cilantro margarita, which never disappoints. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends or family over great food and drinks. Because of its location on Cicero, it doesn't get a lot of walk-in traffic, so it still feels like a hidden gem. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Food and drink were both absolutely delicious! The guac is made to order so it was perfectly fresh and creamy. Highly recommend anything that has the mole sauce. Service was a little slow, as they only had a single server and there was a large party that came in after us, but otherwise it was a perfect dining experience and I'd highly recommend!

My husband and I came across Sol de Mexico through the Michelin Guide and it was absolutely worth it. The margaritas were fantastic, perfectly balanced and refreshing. We ordered the enchiladas mole, ceviche, and pollo en salsa almendrada. Every dish was full of flavor, generous in portion, and beautifully plated. But what truly made the experience special was the service. 100/10. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and we instantly felt at home. We've officially found our new date night spot close to home. Please don't walk, run and try this place!

Food and service were horrible. We brought our family from out of town for a nice treat and we were treated terribly. We were sat at a table where we couldn't talk to each other because of how spread out we were. I asked for a table where we could talk to each other and they claimed a reservation was going to take up all the tables even though the restaurant was empty (one other party) and no one else showed up through the duration of our dinner. The waitress was passive aggressive, slamming plates on our table and constantly hovering to clear the table without us finishing drinks or food. Then going to the bar and staring at us while we ate, which made everyone feel so uncomfortable. At one point she set the enchiladas on our table, walked away, and then came back, took it off our table and gave it to the other party. This is completely unsanitary and unprofessional. She didn't even check that we hadn't taken a bite of the food yet. I ordered the cod and it was overcooked, completely chewy and flavorless. This is not the food or service I expect from a Michelin-star restaurant. It was a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience.

Had a wonderful meal here. The food and drinks are absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly and even brought extra chips for one of the appetizers. It is nicely decorated and great for a high quality meal at fair prices. Worth visiting the neighborhood for.

The service was extremely slow and poorly organized. The server seemed unfamiliar with the wine selection. The steak was undercooked to the point of being nearly raw, forcing me to take it home and cook it myself. While the food itself is undoubtedly delicious, the restaurant needs significant improvement in efficiency and coordination. Each dish took an hour to be prepared.

Everything! Was phenomenal from the appetizers to the mains. The presentation is amazing and service is exquisite. The decoration is very native and beautiful. It's a very authentic place that sells a whole different experience.

We had a funeral down the street and needed a quick dinner first so we stopped in here. We were the only people in the place at 6:30 on a Friday and I am baffled as to why. It was absolutely delicious! I ordered the pasilla chili soup and my friend had an avocado soup and we shared the appetizer plate. The pasilla chicken soup broth was so flavorful and not a trace of the bitterness I always find when I try to make a similar dish. I think they make the tortillas from scratch--they were full of corn flavor and had a great texture. The tomatillo salsa was outta site too! If we lived in Chicago this would definitely be a regular spot. The service was fantastic and the music was '80s Mexican pop I've never heard and I loved it. Very clean and elegant, also.

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. I must admit that I had low expectations because quite frankly, I have not enjoyed Mexican food outside of Mexico or California. However, we were hungry, and it was near where we were staying, so I decided we should check it out, and I am so glad we did! The food was great. Both adults and the VERY picky children in our group all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the green chicken enchiladas and the other adult ordered a chile relleno combo, which I also got to try. Everything was delicious and devoured by all! We were so full but the owner talked us into the chocoflan, and we did not regret trying it. It was soooo good! Speaking of the owner, the service was great. We really enjoyed how he and the rest of the staff were very courteous. It is a small establishment, and it gets a good amount of people, so I assume that there are waits during peak hours. I highly recommend Sabroso! And we plan to return the next time we are in the area.

There's no parking lot, but we found free street parking on Erie Street right next to the restaurant. We'll definitely come back!

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it! We came later on a Monday night so we did not have to wait to get a seat although it was still pretty busy. The place is decorated nicely. Well on a block with many other Mexican businesses. Located right off the pink line it is very easy to get to and also noted to be near the Mexican art Institute. The chicken mole enchiladas were delicious. Spicy and bitterness of the chocolate balanced super well. rice was also cooked perfectly. The shredded beef dish was short rib and mashed potatoes. They were meant to be assembled into a homemade tortilla - a very interesting concept. The homemade tortillas were so warm and fluffy. I have never had such good tortillas. I took a tamale plate home. It was large and had a good portion of shredded pork. Super flavorful, but also I felt the texture might've been firmer than I would've expected.

Only real negatives were that they did not offer any draft beer options and the Chips y Salsa ($3.75) had a meager quantity of chips to eat their tasty and generous tomatillo and 3-chile salsa options. Would actually go 4.5 stars based on those 2 factors, but gave the benefit of the extra half star due to how good our service was and the excellent flavor of the veggie sandwich.
