True to the name, there are hammocks everywhere, including one outside each room's entrance. Awesome pool area with a waterfall and tons of cute seating. And even though Puerto Rico as a whole never fails to delight me (a Minnesotan) with the kindness of the people, the staff of La Jamaca were endlessly thoughtful, friendly, and professional beyond my expectations. The food didn't impress me. I did actually like having breakfast each morning; the eggs, french toast, and coffee were all good. But the dinner entrees we tried were big on quantity, not so big on quality. And pretty high-priced as well. We had taco dinners and a mofongo - the latter was pretty good but quite salty, and the tacos were lacking in flavor. Also can't recommend the avocado toast. One more thing: the shower took 5+ minutes to get above room temperature, and infinity minutes to reach a temperature that could be reasonably described as "hot". But other than that, solid hotel. Clean place, comfortable beds, gated parking area, and again VERY nice staff. I sincerely hope I have a chance to return!

We sat ourselves outside and waited about 10 minutes to order beer and food. We then waited 20 minutes without so much as a check in from the waitress. No water, no beer, no "hows everything." The food (empanadillas) came after being there for 30 minutes (if you have been to PR then you know there are cooked empanadillas 24 hours a day at almost every place on the island) but they were very good and obviously fresh. I have nothing bad to say about the food, but for better service and a more creative menu go right across the street to Moon. Never did get that beer.

The rooms are kept immaculate and the bar/restaurant that is attached to the guest house is really good. It is a bit more upscale than the local bars near the docks which is great for travelers. The puerto rican food is great but the burger was the best I had on the island which was much needed after a week of traveling around the island! The use 100% beef which from what I hear is rare (no pun intended). The owners are great guys to have a drink with and very knowledgeable of the area and can help you make any arrangements you need.

Thanks to Rafael and his wonderful family I have fallen in love with Puerto Rico again. Rafael's vast knowledge of the history of Puerto Rico, religion, and the hot spots across the entire island provided an amazing tour of approximately 75% of the island in our 3 days. Not only did we get to experience the most beautiful areas of the island but also got to enjoy the best of Puerto Rico's culture and food. We felt safe at all times due to Rafael's professional security and previous experience in the US Army. Prior to our arrival, Rafael worked with me to determine a customized travel plan that not only included excursion specifics but also airport transportation, travel assistants, and concierge services. He also reviewed a detailed list of items, such as, age of family members, medical conditions, activity and food restrictions, etc. Rafael is extremely professional, always on time and has great communication skills in both Spanish and English. You can trust his 7 year old son Daniel when he says, "Your wish is his[Rafael] command." Our excursions were 8-12 hours each day and throughout our trip Rafael and his family made us feel like a part of their family. I have traveled to over 8 countries and 35 states and can declare that Rafael is the best tour guide I've ever met.

Second, the house is beautiful. Third, everything you need is in the house. Hammocks, stove, grill, outdoor shower to clean off after the beach, the only reason to leave is to go buy food. I can't recommend this place enough.

When things got tough and the shit hit the fan all Sara could do is say it wasn't her fault, when we were following house rules. Needless to say she left an incredibly sour taste. Laura was away and was not able to help us at the time. Once Laura got back from her vacation she was wonderful. Helping us anyway she could while dealing with the nightmare that is Sara. Laura refunded our stay and has been doing everything in her power to make things right, a true professional and kind person. Now that Laura has a new location in NY and has severed all ties with Sara I would be more then happy to stay with her. Below is a warning to all...The location in PR is great but the owner (Sara is TERRIBLE) stay at your own risk... DO NOT STAY AT GRATEFUL SOULS HOSTILE in PR. AWFUL HOST, beyond selfish and rude as can be. If you have an issue...Sara will hang up on you or ignore you.
