The "famous gyro" was decent, but not great. I've had better gyros, and I've had worse. The pita was fresh and warm. The veggies were fresh and crisp. The gyro meat was fried, not grilled. I far, far prefer my gyro meat to be grilled on a vertical rotisserie. The waitress said that they make their own gyro meat. It tasted like it was mostly beef, not lamb. I like my gyros to be 100% lamb. There was not enough tzatziki sauce on the gyro for my taste. I like my gyros to have fries in them. Instead, I was served potato chips on the side. Placed a to go order at Sokolata on my way home from work. I ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken and their hummus. Man, that salad is one of the best Greek salads I have ever had! Everything was fresh and delicious! The staff was very friendly as well! If you haven't given them a try, you are missing out! The salad was $11.99, but the portion is huge! Struggled with 4 or 5. But settled in 5 for a few reasons I order gouda bites. When I first bit I to one I knew something was off. They add bacon to it (I didn't eat pork) . They didn't try to make me substitute something else after I declined the first time to have them give me something else. Chips were great. Crunchy yet not hard at all. I was almost going for 4 because while the gyro was excellent, the bread was so soft yet it didn't get soggy, I felt like it had too much of the tahini or whatever thr cream they put in it. Get hummus with their pita. Even their pasta is great! This is easily the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. I know I'm a little late on a Sokolata review. However, I was in South Charleston today and grabbed the opportunity. I'm a big Crepizza fan, btw. I think they have one of the best pizzas in Charleston. Sokolata is owned by the same people. I got an 8-inch Italian hoagie with no lettuce. I wasn't feeling too "lettucey" today. It was a little over $11. I'm sure their pizzas are comparable to Crepizza, but I couldn't justify spending $18-$20 or more on a pizza for myself today. Plus, I wasn't ravenous. The hoagie wasn't bad. It didn't have a lot of "umph" to it. You know, some hoagies are just pretty. This looked more like a normal hoagie I'd make at home. I wouldn't go out of my way to go buy one, but if I was in the area and a friend wanted to stop by there, I would. It's probably a solid 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Service was good. The cashier was nice as can be. That drive-thru is absolutely terrifying, though. You can't see traffic!!! Next time, I'm just parking and going in. read more

They had a full menu, but I came seeking dessert. Their spread included some appealing gelato and a variety of mousse cups and other soft desserts. I found a black forest, which from them means chocolate, vanilla, and cherry, and it delivered precisely the rich, smooth flavor that I'd hoped. The sandwich I got was delicious with quality, fresh ingredients but it wasn't an Italian Hoagie based on the listed description. My picks from best on down the line. The dining area is super clean. 1. Gouda Mac & Cheese Bites. I promise you won't be disappointed. A+ 2. Ya can't beat homemade hummus with ht fresh pita. A+ 3. Mykonos Spaghetti is different take on what you'd call regular spaghetti. A thinner sauce than traditional marinara it's made with shrimp, mushrooms, onions an' feta it's very flavorful. A 4. In my opinion their gelato is much better than any hard ice cream around. Favorites like cookie butter an' salted caramel are really good! A++ My wife had the Greek salad, Pasta carbonara an' the chocolate cake. She raved about how everything was awesome! She particularly said that the pasta carbonara was really rich an' creamy. Said the cake was rich an' decadent. Couldn't finish either an' had to take them home. Family's opinion was A+ I forget what my daughter had...LOL!!! They both loved the gelato. Food -- Really really good. Fresh taste with a wide wide menu. Ambiance -- Fast-food feel (it's in an old Wendy's) With set down an' order quality. Update 04/2023: Sokolata's hit it out of the park again today. I've been craving a chicken pita and they have the best in the Charleston area. Don't let the picture fool you, they have plenty of meat on them. The tzatziki and ranch sauces are house-made and so creamy and delicious. House-made chips looked super crispy but weren't hard; something that's hit or miss a lot of times with this style chip at other places. The hummus was yummy too. Our little one loved it and ate nearly half the bowl. Husband enjoyed his traditional gyro as always. Service is always friendly and prices are reasonable. I will note that the menu doesn't have the correct pricing on it and there is an up charge for using credit card, but that's all normal these days and we don't care. They also have a large selection of desserts and gelato that's worth a trip all by itself. We were too full to partake, but I did grab some pics of today's selection. Original Review: Amazing desserts! We got a sampling of desserts and each one was phenomenal. The chocolate lava cake was moist with well balanced chocolate flavors. The eclair was smooth and light with just enough chocolate. The final item we didn't get the name of. It was a layered strawberry glaze custard and puff pastry. I can't say enough encouraging words about this amazing establishment! I was looking for a place for my aunt and I to eat when we were out and about in the area. I joined a West Virginia food group on Facebook a few days prior to coming here. I saw multiple people recommend Sokolata for amazing desserts (the post was about desserts) and decided that we would try Sokolata when we were closer to the area. The day came when we were able to go. We got there and sat down we thought this would be something similar to our local Gino's. We were thinking maybe we shouldn't eat here but I am so glad we decided to stay. We weren't sure what we wanted to try as everything sounded amazing! We decided to get the Homemade Hummus served with Pita Chips for an appetizer, Chicken Ranch Pizza for entree, Kids Spaghetti, and Salted Caramel Gelato and Tiramisu for dessert. The Hummus with the Pita Chips were so appetizing! The hummus was very good even by itself. The Pita Chips were nice and warm. The Chicken Ranch Pizza came with chicken, ranch, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, and marina sauce. The pizza was perfect! Easily comparable to Backyard Pizza in Huntington West Virginia which I think has some of the best pizza. The chicken was so flavorful and all of the vegetables tasted very fresh. The ranch was also very yummy! We got the Kids Spaghetti for my little cousin and she loved it. We tried it and we also approve of it. The sauce was homemade; so tasty! The noodles were cooked to perfection. It was also topped with parmesan cheese. Which was a nice touch. For dessert we got the Salted Caramel Gelato and the Tiramisu. Let me just say AMAZING for both. The Gelato was so creamy and had a strong flavor. The Tiramisu is what I wanted to try and what I got. It was so delicious; just wow! I had never tried Tiramisu before and I saw that they had it here and figured why not try it here. I am so happy that I did. It was simply define. The cream was rich, the lady fingers were nice and soft, and the coffee flavor was there but not to strong. I will get another one or two maybe three the next time I come back! Our waitress was very helpful, funny, and attentive. We asked about food which she gave her opinion on and helped us decide. She gave us samples of the gelato so we could decide what kind we wanted to try. She served us quickly, brought out food fast, and came back with the bill swiftly. These desserts were divine! The prices seemed a little high, but it was definitely worth the price. The serving sizes were very large and the food was delicious. I ordered the mint gelato and a Eclair Ferraro. Both were so good. My co-workers ordered Mille Feuille & Profiterole. They said they were both delicious as well. Parking had discouraged me from stopping previously, but they have a parking on the side of the building next door. However, the owner of the lot did request that people not park on the front row or beside the vacuum building, because people are bringing in parts, etc. So you are welcome to park at the back of the lot and I believe there is even parking behind Sokolata. I recently saw a sign that they are also going to be serving crepes, as they do at Creperi Cafe. A great local business, with fresh delicious food! read more
