They've been around for eight years, but moved to their new location in November. Now housed in the old Zippy's Hotdogs building in Southridge, they've become the only drive-thru bakery of their kind in West Virginia. My son has never tasted the heavenly goodness of a Sugar Pie cupcake, so I decided to try that drive-thru out and let him give this bakery a whirl on the tastemobile. David got the oreo cupcake. He has not ranked any restaurant below a 9 so far and there were no surprises in his verdict this time. His eyes got big as saucers as he took the first bite and he yelled, "There are oreos IN the cupcake! And this icing is so soft and fluffy, oh my gosh! Ten out of ten! Ten out of ten!" My child literally put the cupcake up to my face and squealed, "See the pieces of oreos, mom?!?" I wish he was as equally enthused about cleaning his room or taking a shower... I got the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. I agree that it was mighty tasty. I've had Sugar Pie before, so I wasn't as excited as David. Of course, I don't think anyone is as excited as my son when it comes to good food! :) If you've never had Sugar Pie Bakery cupcakes, cookies, pepperoni rolls or anything else on their yummy menu, I suggest that you stop by and check them out. Visited for the first time on Harry Potter day. I had some of the macarons, treacle tart, and a chocolate frog with a Sorcerer's Stone. Everything was so delicious I couldn't even pick a favorite - the macarons were baked perfectly, the treacle tart was magical, and the ganache inside the frog was some of the best I've ever had. Super pie is the only bakery in town that does GF cupcakes, which I needed for a coworkers baby shower. Order placed a few weeks in advanced, when I arrived to pickup at 11 am (party was at noon). The cupcakes weren't ready. The lady who was assisting me listed off all the reasons why they weren't ready, including a power outage the night before. I don't like excuses and I don't care what the reasoning was, my product wasn't ready. Found the comment pretty unprofessional. They should have contacted me ahead of time to let me know there would be a delay. Also $120 for three dozen cupcakes is kinda overpriced for this market. Ordered a specialized cake and took me calling and emailing and coming in to speak to someone just to get confirmation and pricing. When I came in younger adults working and a children running all around. When I got it looked ok but had plastic wrap and was smashing down on on the top of the decorations. When ate a few bits a piece and threw the rest away (almost 50 dollar cake) The batter was very heavy and didn't taste good. They also made a cake for my sisters baby shower that looked exactly like a suitcase. It was so amazing that everyone at the shower had to take a photo of it. It is sad that a one-star review is the lowest rating I can give this establishment. The cupcakes are good, really good. However, the employees and management have taken what should have been a sweet customer experience and turned it sour very quickly. I'm writing this article on behalf of my mother, who has been treated poorly by this establishment twice. Last Friday when she ordered cupcakes for a party, she asked a worker if she had any more in the back to buy (there were only 3 or 4 cupcakes in the case). She said no, this was all they had. A few minutes later another worker came out from the back with a whole tray of cupcakes and told her that there were, in fact, more in the back. Second, when father went to pick up another order days later, the same worker got nasty with him saying that My mother hadn't paid for them. She had the receipt, showing she had paid in advance, and offered to fax it to her. All of a sudden she didn't need it. My father, unaware my mother had paid for three dozen cupcakes, received only two dozen. When my mother found out, she asked to speak to the manager who was very rude and condescending, stating that this lying, nasty employee was a "good worker". Good at lying, rudeness, and cheating? The cupcakes actually taste good, particularly the icing; however, the service left alot to be desired. My girlfriend bought me half dozen Red Velvet Cupcakes for Valentines Day; called when they opened the day of, and picked up around 4:30, eight hours later. When she did pick them up (she believes the owner checked her out) she saw all the other boxes with RED BOWS (50 or 60 at least). She asked if her box could have one too and was told they were too busy and that those were call-ahead orders (LIKE 8 HRS ISN'T?); the owner was also in a "frazzled" mood (perhaps overwhelmed by the busy occasion?). I mean REALLY!?! We're the type of people who would buy year- around, who prize little local spots and support entreprenuers. Not sure the two minutes saved effort to put on a bow and deliver some great customer service was worth it. But maybe it was... good luck surviving on the once-a-year orders. Shame. read more
