You can tell this is the kind of place that's been doing things the same (and doing them well) for a long time. The prices were also surprisingly great, and had they been listed, I would have purchased a lot more. It's a small, old-school bakery that's clearly been a local favorite for generations, and that charm is part of what makes it special. That said, as first-time visitors, it was a little tough to navigate. Nothing is labeled, no menu, no prices, so we had to ask a few questions and rely on recommendations. Maybe it was just a busy Saturday morning, but the young woman helping us didn't seem thrilled that I was taking photos and asking about the pastries. I get that most of their customers are probably regulars who already know what they want, but for those of us just passing through, a little guidance (and patience) would go a long way. Even with that experience, I'd still recommend stopping by. The pastries really are that good, the prices are fair, and it's the kind of nostalgic, old fashioned bakery that's getting harder to find these days.

Usually I'm passing through on my way to or from NC. My kids love a bunch of the other flavors of donuts and they do have a bunch. Service is usually quick and friendly. We got a dozen donuts including blueberry cake, devils food, honey dew, buttermilk, Boston cream, banana cream, cinnamon powdered sugar, strawberry cream, and some other one I can't remember the name of. They were all very tasty! The creams were generous, flavorful and a great texture and the powdered toppings were strong and packed on! My typical go-to are blueberry cake and devils food/chocolate cake, and they were just okay, but the rest were absolutely worth trying! Interestingly, they do a baker's dozen (13 not 12) but the 13th donut is chosen from a separate case with options that are different than the regular donut options and at other places would cost more like cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, specialty long johns, etc. we found that fascinating, as I tried to get one as part of my dozen and they said those are the free ones instead. I don't usually eat sugar, so trying donuts on this vacation was a big stretch for me, but these were absolutely worth it!
