East Harlem

East Harlem is lucky to have this local Urban Garden Center for plants nearby, under the Metro…read moreNorth on Park Avenue. I'm not normally buying plants or plant-related products because the only success I've had in my apartment is one type of succulent (the Hobbit Jade Plant) that seems to thrive no matter what. That being said, I wanted to combine two separate plants into one pot on my window sill and needed the soil and a rectangular planter. Note - The only rectangular planters I saw were plastic, the soil was pricy compared to Home Depot, and an additional Hobbit Jade Plant was pricier there than what I've seen elsewhere. That being said, there may be other items competitive in price or not available elsewhere... plus (at least for me) it's convenient. Plus, it sells items like soil in smaller quantities, which may be convenient for people with small apartments. Recommend coming and checking Urban Garden Center out, including its chickens both in the hen house and roaming around free range!

Avoid this business!!!: UGC justifies bad behavior without apology. Customers are not respected,…read morefrom rude staff answering the phone with attitude, lack of communication regarding stated arrival time, to poor installation of plants that is not done with accepted standard practice of professional gardeners for the health of plants. Also, the plants that cost me a couple of thousand dollars had many broken branches because the workers rushed to install them. They also want payment up front before any delivery/installation/scheduling. It was a horrible and stressful experience. Informing the owner of my experience resulted only in his making excuses for USG's bad actions with no apology whatsoever. ***And because I posted my review, the owner Dimitri vindictively told me that he would no longer stand behind the plants or the work done to make things right. He didn't like my honest review. Prior to my review, he was willing to make right his failures, if needed. It is disappointing that UGC is unable to acknowledge its mistakes or shortcomings, and that they do not know how to interact with customers.

5 stars for the service, 1 star off for the steep prices…read more Came here & bought stuff as a last resort because I went to 3 other Christmas stores & they didn't have what I was looking for. Well, this little Christmas Cottage did! Needed to buy the whole sha-bang for the small little island pine tree in my room & this place had it all. Everything was organized by color, which is the way I coordinate my closet so it was easy for me to find things. I kept finding things I didn't know the prices for & a gentleman named Joe was a BIG help. He was this gentleman who stood near the entrance of the door & whenever I had a question about anything, he had the answers to them. Bless him. I spent $76 dollars on lights, small silver ornaments, that came with a topper, white snowflake garment, classic white lights, and a special luggage ornament to represent my move here to New York this year. Left the store happy & went out to eat when I realized my special ornament wasn't in my bag! Good thing I checked when we were only half a mile away! So I called the place & they knew exactly what I forgot & told them I'd go over there & pick it up. I checked Yelp to see how late they were open till & then I saw a 10% off check-in coupon that my boyfriend failed to notice. Came back to the store a little upset that they forgot the most important piece of my first NY Christmas & showed them the 10% off. After being fussy, Danny, the man who rang us up, gave me some money back to honor the 10% check-in through Yelp. I felt so bad afterwards for being sassy with him. Us Filipinos need to look out for each other ya know & Joe & Danny looked out for me. Happy Holidays!
