My boyfriend and I had a great experience at soho gem. I was looking for a unique engagement ring and soho gem came up as a suggested place to check out.They have absolutely beautiful colored gemstones, sapphires, emeralds, rubies and more (also have traditional diamond rings too). Our sales consultant Marina was so patient even though I was gushing over all the rings and asking to try them all on. Everything is customizable, their stones are mostly GIA certified which is great and Marina was really knowledgeable in explaining differences in quality and gemstone attributes. You can also order in specific stones if they don't have them on hand. I really appreciated her insights. We had multiple visits there and she was always patient, helpful and not pushy at all. Would definitely recommend. You can do a walk in but I'd recommend an appointment if you're going on the weekend! read more

I cannot recommend Soho Gem enough! My now-fiancé, parents, and I booked an appointment with them spontaneously while we were visiting New York. It was our first consultation for a wedding ring, so we weren't sure what to expect, but Marina was absolutely amazing at guiding us through the process. We discussed a design for the ring, and Marina gave us a quote that fell within our budget. Because we're based in San Francisco, my fiancé and I were hesitant to purchase a ring from a NY store. I was also transparent with Marina about the fact that we had a consultation the following weekend with a jeweler in San Francisco. We still exchanged contact information, and the next day I received an email from Marina going over everything we had discussed during our consultation, right down to the small details. I appreciated that she remembered those details, and I loved her enthusiasm and passion for ensuring this would be a ring we would adore. She even said that she would hold the stone for us through the following weekend in case our consultation in San Francisco didn't work out. Marina was incredibly patient and helpful throughout the process, showing me multiple options of what the design could look like and talking me off the ledge of the cliff when I started to question myself. It was a sunny afternoon in Soho...originally shopping for an engagement ring wasn't even on our agenda, but perhaps it was fate that we passed by Soho Gem. I stopped in with my fiancé just to get "inspired"... We were designing the ring together and wanted to start to explore. I had always walked past this store and admired the window pieces. Always stunning. I had no intention other than to just look bc Everyone knows... You never buy retail for fine jewelry. I have a jeweler who I trust and so on. I went in and met with Sarah Nahikian, she is really fun... highly professional, knows her stuff and happens to be such a sweetheart. She started on the windy road with us. We had little idea of what we wanted so she just played along with us and kept putting beautiful /well suited pieces on my hand. Eventually I found my way to a natural 4.5 c color changing sapphire- flanked by beautiful diamond trillions and we (my fiancé and I) knew it was the one. We sent the image of the ring to my jeweler and he replied with- "you're particular and know what you like- the ring is stunning and the price - based on market- is fair!! Don't chase something that you could just buy and love". And so... Despite the no retail for fine jewels rule- we did it. And get to admire this beauty on my hand every day. They make stunning pieces. They are SO fair with their pricing. We also met with Irina- the owner and primary designer- she actually designed my ring. Her energy is also spot on- she's lovely and has quite an eye for gorgeous baubles. I laugh at these silly reviews. I mean... South Park made an episode to make fun of yelpers - but I had to. When making an investment that is also emotional- it matters where you do business and how you feel afterwards. We pretty much met their entire team- even their security guard is awesome. My fiancé is quite the character- he enjoyed teasing him about running out with the ring before the purchase took place. Soho gem had great pieces of jewelry. We went engagement ring browsing and had an appointment to look for 30 minutes. Around 12 minutes in, sales lady (irena) started to ask us where we were from. As soon as we said northern Connecticut, she automatically gave us her business card and said "seems like you already know what you want". Didn't ask if we were done browsing or ask if we wanted to see others. There were several other rings we wanted to see. Felt very rushed and rude. Customer service was 1/5. read more

A shockingly bad experience from an esteemed shop. (This was maybe two or three months ago) I was helping a friend find an engagement ring and we decided on this spot because of all of the amazing reviews. We entered the store and were coldly greeted by an elderly woman sitting behind the counter. We began browsing one of the cases for about ten minutes and than she finally offered to assist us. He gave her a quote of $10,000 and she responded, incredulous - "are you sure you want a diamond?" he politely said yes and than she smacked a small ring with a very small diamond on the table. She said that was all he could afford. She was extremely rude and did not offer to show him alternatives/work with him/educate him on diamonds/try to up-sell. She was not interested in making a sale-she just want us to leave. I don't know why his money was not good enough for her. Her behavior was gross and unbecoming. read more

Note - I sent an email to Soho Gems requesting an apology before I posted this. It has been SOME TIME and I heard nothing, therefore I came to post this review. I came to this store for the first time awhile ago on a whim and noted a gorgeous engagement ring when browsing with my cousin and her fiance. A few months later I wanted to stop in again and show it to a friend of mine. We entered the store and went straight to the case where it was held and requested to see it. The woman sitting at the computer came to us, looked us up and down, and asked how old I was, insinuating that I am too young to be in the store and too young for her to be serving us. I am aware that I appear very young, came from a workout and as such was not dressed up. However it is age discrimination (ageism) to bring that up, and inappropriate as well. I was incredibly thrown off by this woman's lack of customer service skills. Flustered, my friend and I quickly left the store. When it dawned on me that she was discriminating against us, I went back into the store and asked for her name. She paused, then refused to provide it to me ("you don't need it" was what she said, rudely), stating that I had barged into the store, did not say hello (for that, I do apologize, I did not say hello as I rushed in a bit excitedly)... The woman then further indicated that the store is appointment only and that she was "very busy"... I assume she meant she was too busy to speak with someone who she thought could not possibly be a potential customer. I was there to show my friend the ring so she could show my then-boyfriend, but was judged far before I could do that. It was an extremely humiliating experience. I have no qualms about looking young, but my friend and I left feeling belittled for not being served adequately BECAUSE we looked young. If Soho Gems is in fact, appointment only, then she could have let me know that politely and asked me to make an appointment for a future date. No problem at all. However I did review the Yelp page and noted many people had just "dropped in" - which indicates that Soho Gems is NOT appointment only. This woman (I believe might be named Marina?) was incredibly unprofessional, rude, and downright insulting. I received my engagement ring from somewhere else - and my fiance and I had a GREAT experience there. If I were you, I would go elsewhere. read more
