I went in at first to get a recommendation and was told that of course, I would qualify to have it. You would think after 1 nose job I would be done. But oh no, the procedure is as an outpatient, and I was ready for the 2nd. The Dr's of course are professional and the students are awesome. I was in fact, scared that I would get a student who would botch it up, but they assured me that the students are accompanied by the regular Dr's and that I had no reason to worry. Extremely professional and yet affordable, most insurance will cover, but at the time it was strictly out of pocket. I think that Chicago really needs to see that they don't have to go out of country just for a simple and yet affordable procedure.

Based on my experience, Mexican doctors are much better than doctors in the U.S. (so having insurance is good for nothing here.) Also, she didn't even want to refer me for allergy testing because I'm a foreign student, so she assumed I would not live here for a long time, therefore not worth it. Felt a little discriminated against with that one!

The whole department is dirty and unorganized and the whole staff has little regard for their patients and are very unhappy, while I was waiting for my surgery I had to listen to several nurses complain about how awful it is to work for UIC. I was treated with absolute disregard and my life has been permanently effected by my decision to let Dr Joe perform surgery on me. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

However, after the surgery, I had several months of problems with their billing department----they over-billed me. I think that I've finally gotten that solved today. When I called on the phone today, they admitted to me they made a mistake and said they will fix it-----I really don't owe anything further, they said. I asked them to send me something in writing, and they said they will. So my two points are a) they have good surgeons, and b) if they screw up your billing, have patience over the months, and politely try to get them to fix it. Thanks.

Beware! I came into…read morethe Ear and Eye Infirmary back in the summer of 2017 for two different appointments that summer to receive a new set of gas permeable contact prescription contacts. I saw an associate along with Dr Tim McMahon. My experience with your organization has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered. Honestly you cannot make this stuff up. The associate that I saw before the Doctor was rude and not worth speaking much more on. Dr Tim McMahon was a pleasant and nice experience. He was not able to fix the problems I was having with my eyes though. I am considered legally blind and the Doctor was attempting to increase my vision experience within the gas permeable contacts. To this day I am still having severe loss of vision in my right eye with the right contact along with the contact continues intermittently to fall off my right eye. Last but not least I have been requesting my medical records via your organization by calling and writing letters since the summer of 2017. I started working with Ciox Health to obtain the records this past September. We received the records but half the pages are illegible. Ciox Health has been requesting legible medical records from your organization for three months now. In short I have paid for contacts, appointments and definitely access to my records and then some with currency and my time. The contacts did not come out like we wanted them along with the records have never came legibly. Update I just received a notice from Ciox Health that the university is saying the records they sent are the best copies available. They are illegible! Incompetence at its highest level. I have been asking for records since the summer of 2017.

I never have reasons to go to the Dr.- normally perfect health, so doctors just make me nervous in general. His nurses were very kind and polite, showed me back to the exam room, asked me questions, took notes in the file, were very personable. They explained Dr. Portugal was running a little late- but it was really only a 10 minute wait. NO problem. When Dr. Portugal did come in, he introduced himself, asked me a lot of questions, felt my glands inside & outside me mouth, was VERY gentle. He told me about what he saw, what he thought, gave me some options for how he thought we might investigate more. It was really very comfortable and I felt like we were working together. I would recommend him to anyone. In fact- I wish he could just be my general practitioner.
