My GP refers me to Dr. Alan Wolff, an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist, and so off I go hoping for a quick fix so I can go on with my life. Instead I got a CT scan, a "wick" inserted in my ear, 3 prescriptions, and several sick days... but the good part is that Dr. Wolff is maybe the nicest doctor I've come across. I felt very confident in his care and he called me several times after my appointment to check up on me (not once, but several! this was very reassuring...especially after I looked up my diagnosis online and starting worrying about the infection spreading to my brain). The office assistants are also fantastic. My insurance company didn't want to approve my CT scan (which was necessary to my diagnosis) for 72 hours, but the office would hear nothing of it and made sure I got the procedure done that day. I would definitely recommend Dr. Wolff for any of your ear, nose, or throat needs. He also has offices in the city, and is a cut above the rest.

Anyone who grew up with "The Brady Bunch" knows that being a stinker is the absolute worst thing ever ("Bobby is such a stinker!" "Marcia, you know I don't like THAT WORD!!"). My gene pool (lookin' at you, Dad) has made me prone to allergies and my nose seems more than happy to react to whatever in the atmosphere it doesn't like. Reactions range from mild pouting to a full-on revolt. On the bright side, I haven't had a cold in 18 years, so I guess my nose likes me sometimes. Moody little stinker.... Despite the Challenge (note the capital "C") that my nose presents, Dr. Pomerantz has helped it cooperate better with the world around it. There is no cure for what ails it, but there are many drugs/treatments/options out there for people like me, and Dr. Pomerantz has always given me good advice and recommendations. My nose will never be perfect, but it's definitely much less pissed off now. Really, can you give less than 5 stars to someone who not only improves your quality of life, but is also super nice, even when he pulls gross crud out of your nose for you? Dr. Pomerantz also cleans ears (I know because I heard him say, "Let's clean your ears!" to a patient in the next room...I should be a detective!). If I ever need an ear cleaning, he's totally my guy. Although if I come to him with more problems, he might think I am stalking him. But it's likely this review already took care of that.

I'm never going back. The visit was due a stuffy nose unrelated to a cold. My entire visit was twenty minutes--15 of it was spent waiting. My bill was $880. Supposedly I had 2 surgeries done in 20 minutes. A minute to look up my nose and a peek into my ear canal. He's great. but ASK if he's going to do anything that will cost more than your additional copay. Because you figure an ENT looking up your nose was normal. Not a surgery that costs $500. Their billing department is a mess. The visit was over a year ago. It's unpleasant getting a new bill over a year later painfully reminding me that this was a very expensive 20 minute visit, stating I actually owe even more than initially billed. While the doctor himself is great, you still need to deal with his office. Never going back.

Finally, a friend told me to get a second opinion and I lucked into an appointment with Dr. Layland. His manner is delightful, and his attentiveness to the issue was extraordinary. He ordered 2 different tests at Lutheran General, and an appointment with a speech therapist. After all of these years, I finally have some answers to my problem. After a HORRIBLE experience the day before at the Oral Surgeon office who was supposed to have taken a biopsy but didn't, I was feeling pretty hopeless. Dr. Layland took his time and I could appreciated the fact that he was honest and told me he doesn't know what it is but will take a biopsy and HELP ME GET SOME ANSWERS!!! He did NOT sent me away and tell me to come back. He did what any doctor should do, provide the BEST care possible even if you don't have the answers. THANK YOU DR. Dr Tojo has a way of treating you that makes you feel you're the only person on the planet. He patient and sits with you explaining everything with a compassionate side that makes you feel like you've seen a doctor that really cares about your well being. And his staff from the front to the back are kind and caring. For having such a cute nose my entire life, I did get into a major accident as a child where I didn't realize how much internal damage had been done. Dr C. was super knowledgeable explaining everything in detail and coming up with a solid plan with potential surgery down the line to fix my severe deviated septum. I knew it ! She was friendly and apologetic for the long wait times. She gave me a solid game plan, something I hadn't gotten in the past from other doctors. They don't even know which insurance plans they accept--every one of our claims was incorrectly filed as out-of-network when they were actually in-network. Fixing this has been a major hassle, and despite multiple messages asking for the billing manager to call us back, no one has returned our calls. Instead, we were told that the doctor's wife handles billing, but no one knows when she comes in. We are now receiving final bill notices, yet the office has locked us out of the patient portal due to non-payment, making it impossible to access our records or communicate through that system. When my wife asked how she could reach her doctor or someone who could help, she was told to use the portal--the very one we had been locked out of. All we are trying to do is get them to resubmit these claims correctly as in-network so we can pay the bill and move on. That's it. And yet, we're met with roadblock after roadblock. To top it off, they advertise themselves as a concierge practice, which is laughable. Concierge medicine is supposed to provide premium care, personalized attention, and easy access to the physician and staff. Here, they don't even answer the phone over lunch. Why not stagger lunch breaks like any other service-oriented business instead of shutting down entirely? The final straw was when my wife--who is battling stage 4 cancer--called for the third time to resolve this, only to be scolded for trying to fix a 2024 billing issue in 2025. Unfortunately, we had more pressing matters last year. We're done. As soon as this gets resolved, we'll be finding a new doctor. If you're considering this practice, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
