This was my first time at Toojay's in about 15 years. We ended up here because the wait at First…read moreWatch was too long. Toojay's was completely empty on a Friday morning during the holidays, which was a little concerning. We were seated right away and the waitress took our order quickly. I ordered avocado toast with eggs over medium and my dad ordered an egg scramble wrap. The avocado toast was good. It had tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and dressing. It was a little overdone and took away from the simplicity of avocado toast. The eggs were also more like over easy instead of over medium. My dad's wrap was fine but he asked for regular eggs instead of egg whites and they used egg whites. They also forgot to bring the salsa that came with the wrap. I also ordered ice coffee, which was burnt and just not good. It also took about 30 minutes to get our food, which felt long given there was no one there. The restaurant also felt old and dated. I can see why most locations closed. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but I'm not rushing to go back.

I haven't eaten here in years. Many years. And after today's experience, I will not be eating here…read more Ever. Again. I was in the area for some business, and I stopped in to place a takeout order. It was around 12:10 on a day when a tropical storm was expected and there were only two tables occupied. The area where you order was not busy. I ordered a corned beef on rye. Order of well done fries. 2 potato knish. One pound of chicken salad and a pound of Cole slaw and half pound of egg salad. The French fries were tasty but it was a portion for an infant. The corned beef sandwich had a disgusting taste, and small, so I guess it had a redeeming feature - its size. The chicken salad Cole slaw and egg salads were all good. Not great to run back there and get it again. Just good. I gave the nice short mature woman who took my order and bagged it a nice tip because I felt sorry for her. She has to work in a store where many of the patrons are pushy and rude. And act pushy and rude toward her. Our world has gone down a sorry path of rudeness and incivility. I will not be going back. I'll keep going to Flakowitz on Federal Highway off 20th Street. Always a long line to get a table and take out window is always busy. Why? Because they have great food, high but understandable prices for what they offer. Bye bye TooJays.

Breakfast with toddlers is less of a meal and more of a competitive sport…read more That's how we found ourselves at TooJay's Deli with our year and a half old grandsons. And right out of the gate, I'll say this place is very kid friendly. Because about ten minutes in, the boys began conducting what can only be described as a gravity experiment with anything within arm's reach. Our waitress handled it like a seasoned professional. Calm, patient, helpful, and completely unfazed as items occasionally achieved flight status. Her attitude alone set the tone for a really pleasant experience. Now the plot twist. The service was excellent. The food was... a little more complicated. My son and I started with the matzoh ball soup. It was good, but not quite in the same league as my wife's homemade version. The matzoh ball itself was dense, which I actually like. The broth, though, could have used a little more salt. Still good. Just not legendary. Meanwhile the boys were devouring pancakes with the focus of two tiny professional athletes. I didn't get a bite, but judging by the speed at which those pancakes disappeared, I'm comfortable saying they must have been very good. Then came my plate. Scrambled eggs with French fries and a bagel. Another small twist. The bagel was very good. The fries were cooked to absolute perfection. Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Exactly what you want. The eggs though? They told a different story. A basic breakfast staple that looked like they hit the pan at a little too much heat. Still edible, just not the soft scramble you hope for. My wife ordered the cheese blintzes and reported they were very good. My mom enjoyed her eggs as well, which added another small twist to the table conversation. Sometimes the food is the headliner. Sometimes the experience is. Today the grandsons and the waitress stole the show. Between the kid friendly atmosphere, the fantastic service, and some solid menu items, this visit lands at four stars. If three and a half stars existed, that might be the precise score for the food alone. But our waitress lifted the whole experience. And when you're dining with toddlers conducting airborne physics experiments, that kind of service deserves some extra credit.

Let me say this clearly, loudly, and without hesitation:…read morethese are the best damn potato pancakes anywhere. My fiance and I live close by and this is one of our haunts. We come in order breakfast and sometimes even bring scrabble. Crispy edges. Soft, glorious interior. Properly seasoned. No shortcuts. No frozen nonsense. The kind of latkes that make you pause mid-bite and reassess your entire loyalty to other delis you once defended in public. At TooJay's Deli Bakery & Restaurant, they don't mess around with potato pancakes--they respect them. Now, service. Excellent. Friendly. On point. The kind of staff that knows what they're doing, moves with purpose, and doesn't treat you like an inconvenience for wanting food at a restaurant. Imagine that. Prices? Fair. Almost suspiciously fair in 2026. You leave full without feeling like you were financially assaulted. That alone deserves applause. But then... We must talk about the elephant in the deli. Pepsi products. Look--I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed. This is the only reason this place loses a star.
