Kunefe, cheesy goodness!!
Kevin A.

This new Turkish spot nestled on the East end of Waterbury is ! This is only the second day they've been open and I have to say, very authentic, classy and stylish. The servers that we had are very proper which is always appreciated.I love love love trying new spots! Sofra doesn't serve alcoholic beverages; HOWEVER, they were not opposed to BYOB!! Luckily, there's a package store 4 doors down in the same plaza! Can you say winning?! I can; !WINNING! The pepperoni and tenderloin flatbread is made from scratch. The crust is light and fluffy and also handmade. I'm impressed so far. I ordered the mixed grill. It has every meat they serve here on my plate and I'm not disappointed. Everything is just perfect, just perfect. There's a lot of food here, looks like I'm going to eat well tomorrow also. The Executive Chef /Owner came out to get some feedback. I love that! On to dessert... we ordered the Kunefe and the baclava... the Baclava was so light and flakey, just so goood! The Kunefe was also pretty it was buttery, a little crunchy, and cheesy! Not gonna lie, I'm a happy camper. My family and I will be back!! Thanks for a great first experience. This experience gets the highly coveted " MMMMMSK™"

We came here Sunday night for dinner because my family came to visit; and we wanted to try out this restaurant. Very good variety of food. We all enjoyed our plates. Very filling. The appetizers were tasty also. We got the beet dip and haydar dip along with Albanian style liver and salad for appetizers. For entrees, we tried the chicken mix grill and the bifteki sis. For dessert, we got the pistachio baklava and kazandibi with turkish tea. It was a nice night. The restaurant is BYOB also.

This place is very impressive! We walked in and it was a great smaller spot and very well decorated I loved the vibes there. The service was great as well they greeted us and they were really attentive when asking questions. We also enjoyed the food the kebabs/rice /salad and bread were all amazing . This place is fantastic. They have a huge variety of appetizers and main dishes to chose from. They also gave us fresh bread and salad on the house which were both delicious. I ordered a pide which was really good. My husband ordered a chicken dish which he liked. I also ordered a dessert called kunafe which was absolutely delicious. And they gave us tea to go with it. The service was exceptional which I don't say about every place. Place was clean and was cute inside. Definitely definitely recommend!

This was our first time having Turkish cuisine and we are so impressed! Sofra is relatively new in Waterbury and is totally a hidden gem. We absolutely loved the presentation of the Sofra Platter, and all of the food was so delicious! One of my favorites was the chargrilled chicken melt, and I could eat the dips from the mixed appetizer all day. Everything seems super authentic! I will definitely be returning. Beautiful restaurant and attentive staff.

My wife and I returned to Sofra this evening for dinner. The service ,atmosphere and quality of the food still remains outstanding!. I have attached some photos of the assortment of appetizers and entrées we had. For dessert, we had the mixed baklava of pistachio and walnuts. A must have! We will be back again.

Don't bother coming without a reservation. We were just turned away. Super aggravating UPDATE- It seems you can't post being turned away. If you're actively looking at comments on YELP you should ACTIVELY post that you suggest reservations. We didn't expect to MAGICALLY BE SEATING- however I did expect MAGICALLY for the owner to demonstrate some respect and appreciation for a patron who travelled 45 min to eat at your restaurant. Yet another attack! Your public response is VERY DIFFERENT from the private one. Unprofessional, and petty Now I'm editing comments? On top of a being unprofessional, you're a liar. Fitting.

Sofra mixed grill

Great ambience, amazing food and the service was spectacular. My family enjoyed lunch and would definitely recommend and bring them back. They also couldn't stop raving about how good the food was and can't wait to bring their family back to enjoy such an amazing experience. The first thing you notice immediately is the cleanliness of the place, which is a big deal for all of us. The salad so fresh the breads were so warm and the appetizers were out of this world. We did order the Sofra grill which came with so many different kinds of mixed grilled meats from chicken to lamb and beef kebabs, grilled peppers and rice which all tasted so delicious. Always a win for me! Thanks Sofra for the amazing experience!! The best!

It's a small restaurant, but the food is great. The portions are big enough for two people. The staff are great, friendly and respectful. I really recommend Anyone to try this place. It's good for a night out and also for a date night. BYOB.

It is intentional. The food, the market, the people, the energy of the place all make it worth the trip every single time. The flavors here are deeply rooted in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and you can taste that authenticity in every bite. The hummus is silky and perfectly balanced with tahini and lemon. The baba ganoush carries real smoky depth. The chicken kebabs are juicy and seasoned all the way through. The shawarma is warm, aromatic, and layered with spice. The falafel is crisp outside, vibrant and herbaceous inside. My personal favorite is the Iraqi Chicken Sandwich. It is absolutely phenomenal. The chicken is tender, boldly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Every bite is balanced and satisfying. It is the kind of sandwich that stays on your mind long after you leave. Everything is halal and incredibly fresh. The place is always busy, which tells you everything. The food turns over quickly. The products in the market turn over quickly. There are always people picking up takeout and others shopping the shelves. And the market itself is a treasure. Authentic meats, cheeses, sausages, dairy products, dry goods, teas, dried beans, spices, specialty ingredients and more, all reflecting the flavors of the Middle East and the Mediterranean. These are items you simply will not find in conventional grocery stores. If you love to cook, you will walk out inspired. If you have never been before, do not be intimidated. Walk in. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There is space to sit and enjoy your meal, and they do a huge takeout business as well. Dunya is easily one of the best places in Waterbury and the surrounding areas. Authentic flavor. Unique products. Warm hospitality. I highly recommend it.

Back around 2010ish my friends convinced me to try Saray Turkish Restaurant. I didn't really know…read morewhat I was getting into quality wise but I remember being pleasantly surprised by how good and fresh the food was. There was such great attention to detail that it quickly became one of my favorite restaurants. I recently returned with my pastor for a visit and we both had an excellent lunch! We arrived and were able to be seated quickly since it was a slow weekday, only 8 other people in the restaurant. We sat down and both got a couple of kebab combos, a shepherd's salad, with a mixed hummus and baba ghanoush appetizer. They also bring out house made bread, still hot out of the over. Their bread is fantastic, unfortunately both of us are avoiding carbs so we added it to the to go bag for family. The service at Saray is good, the staff is always friendly. One thing I love about Saray is that they don't rush you out like so many other restaurants do. That being said, if you want the check you may need to flag one of the staff members down or get their attention to get the bill. If you have the disposition of a squirrel this may make you uncomfortable but keep in mind they're not ignoring you; they are just letting you stay as long as you like. From what I heard that's more how they treat you at restaurants in Europe, where your table is yours till you leave. I prefer that than feeling like I'm disrupting an assembly line by not leaving immediately after finishing dinner. Anyway our food came hot out of the oven. I ordered a kofte and donner kebab combo. Kofte is like a Turkish meatball while donner is a lamb and beef blend roasted on a spit. My friend order chicken shish and kofte kebab. The food was cooked very nicely and as always had great flavor to it. The only gripes I could think of at Saray over the years is here or there the rice was a little on the soggy side. Also a few times the donner kebab, the one roasted on a spit, was a little dryer than other times but that's not the end of the world in my mind; plus I've never experienced that with their other kebab choices. If you're rather hungry I'd recommend trying the mixed grill as it's kind of a sample kebab platter. And the Iskender kebab, lamb with tomato sauce and in house made bread, is also a fantastic choice! The atmosphere at Saray can range from a perfect quite date spot to rather boisterous with families and couples filling the restaurant; although generally most of the time it's a relatively calm atmosphere. Keep in mind too that they can be fairly busy at different times, I've gone in there on a Tuesday night and it's been more packed than a Friday, although more often than not the weekends are their busiest days. Saray can be a bit pricey but so is everything these days and they give you decent sized portions. Saray is a model for consistency, they have been on point with their food for years. If you like Turkish food or if you would like to try something new, give Saray a try; they are fantastic!

Zohara is classy, surprisingly affordable, and the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely go with the Meshta (feast) if you are going for dinner with a group. You'll get to try a wide assortment of the menu and it really serves as a fantastic method to savor the different flavors available to you at this restaurant. I've done it with just one other diner and not been upset. The feast includes a ton of appetizers, a few mains, and desserts. If you're going in for lunch, I suggest the mixed grill plates. Although I usually enjoy beef and lamb, and those are fine, I think the salmon with pomegranate really shines. I'd strongly recommend it for lunch. All of the cocktails I've had here have been nothing short of at least solid. They are inventive enough without going overboard. Service has always been stellar as well, and they were even accommodating of my dog on one visit. Overall, this is the best restaurant in West Hartford by a fairly wide margin.
