I got my hair highlighted a few weeks ago by a new employee. I specifically asked if the new person specialized in or was good with blondes and was assured she was by the receptionist. My hair is naturally light so highlights are not super complicated, really just touching up my roots. 95% of the service I was faced away from the mirror so I just assumed it was being done correctly. I ended up leaving with super chunky highlights and she did not tone it correctly so my hair looks extremely fake, and the highlights themselves look bright yellowish instead of my normal more neutral blond color. She also did not put the foils high enough on my roots so I have visible neutral toned roots with chunky bright yellow highlights-- as terrible as my hair has ever looked. I thought something looked off when it was wet but once it dried, it still looked ridiculous. Had I been somewhere else I would have asked her to fix it, but the process was way longer than it needed to be already, I was not in the mood to be refoiled and color corrected. Overall, a simple cut and a botched highlight cost me around $300 after tip. I will not be returning to that new employee. I have gone to another stylist at soco in the past and she was fine but this past experience has convinced me not to come back period. Had to get it corrected by another stylist and another salon, and he was actually shocked by how shitty the highlights looked. read more

I made an appointment for a color, I was lightening the ends of my hair for a wedding that's coming up. I have really fine hair and I'd been growing it out so most of it was totally uncolored healthy hair past my shoulder blades. I asked for a balyage and showed the lady my picture of what I liked and told her something to that effect but please PLEASE don't damage my hair. I emphasized this over and over. I'd rather have a bit darker than to damage my hair. So she assured me that her clay based bleach is sooo gentle on hair. She foils me up and sticks me under the heater for a long time. She checks and decides it's good to go and when she takes my foils out she realizes my hair is super fried. She sits me in the sink with conditioner for a long time and blow dries and slicks and straightens and it does look very pretty. However, after I get home and shower and use my redken antibreakage shampoo and conditioner and am going through my hair routine, my hair is falling out in clumps basically. And that continued for probably 3 months. Every shower I'm pulling out huge strands of hair, whenever I brush my hair over my shoulder, my shirt is covered in broken off little hairs everywhere. So now my hair is stringy and terribly frizzy and I'm gonna go have 4-5 inches cut off here pretty soon. I was reluctant to write a bad review but I hope I save someone from getting their hair destroyed. *** update *** After posting this review, the owner had reached out in multiple ways and offered to make up for this situation, which I appreciate so much. Unfortunately, I had just had my hair cut off to my shoulders just a day or two before she offered to fix my hair for free. I stumbled upon this salon when I first moved to Ponte Vedra and honestly it will be one of the things I miss the most when I leave! It has a fantastic, friendly environment (vs. the snobby feel of some top salons), and every time I go I'm blown away by the skills of the stylists. I work with Taylor Brass and adore her! She is one of the most talented stylists and colorists I've ever worked with. I honestly plan on flying back into town just to continue to have my hair done by Taylor, she's that good! I walked into SoCo for Hair crying. Another local salon had ruined my hair with a bad color job AND haircut. Teresa (owner of SoCo) said "we can fix that", and she did. I have been a customer ever since (5 years now). Things I love about Teresa: She knows my personality, and style. She is always open to new ideas. She is a trained expert in color and cut. She specializes in my naturally crazy wavy curly hair. Her prices are more than reasonable, and worth every penny. She is a wonderful friendly and amazing person. I love how she treats her employees. Based on my experience, I would advise against getting your hair done at Soco Hair in Ponte Vedra.The owner, Theresa, claimed to be well educated on her products and after the ordeal I experienced, that is not the case! I went in for a routine color and while I was processing, I expressed concerns to Theresa that my scalp was tingling more than normal and she dismissed my concern. As a result, I suffered bad chemical burns to my scalp and hair. The pain I experienced only worsened and that evening I had oozing blisters on my scalp and the hair around my face was breaking off. I was not aware of how badly I was burned until my daughter and husband explained the extend of my injuries, particularly the ones I was unable to see. I have not returned to the salon since and today my hair is healthier and finally growing back. Given my experience, I would not recommend visiting this salon for color treatment. read more
