Security guided you in and gave instructions on what to do (head to the blue kiosk to check in). Lots of seats and clean restroom. Place was pretty quiet. I have a phone appointment for the one-time death benefit of $255 TODAY at 11 am due to the loss of my husband. It is now 12:15 pm. NO PHONE CALL. I am on hold waiting to speak with someone at the local Reno SS office. Even though my husband was already getting social security I cannot get survivor benefits until I am 60 which is this August 11th! HORRIBLE COUNTRY WE LIVE IN! Oh yeah, fun fact: my husband was also a VETERAN! Update---I finally got in touch with a live person. They rescheduled me for May 5th. I'm sure there will be an excuse then too when I probably don't get that phone call. Too bad your cushy government jobs aren't an incentive for you to actually show up at your jobs!!! I just can't wait to set up the appt for when I turn 60 this August and file for actual survivor benefits. I'll be lucky to get those next year sometime. Quality/Quantity - What a negative experience!! Worst than all my CA DMV experiences combined, and throughout my life, I have gone through all the CA DMV challenges! The good news is that the DMV has improved significantly. This Social Security office and department has much to learn. It has been over 15+ years since I have had access to my SS information and benefits. So before making an appointment to come to this office, I amazingly was able to get online access last week, so I suggested for my wife to do the same. And now they locked her out?!?! So after a very long wait and a few tries on the phone to clear her account, it failed. They had us go to the local post office for an in person verification, but it was a different system and can NOT communicate currently with the SS system. What a waste of time. So on the phone again... Made an in person appointment to our local office. Well we thought we did, the lady (that lied) said she did. But when we got there, NO appointment was found. So they gave us a walk in #. After an hour of waiting, we asked the security guard if this was normal. He said no and gave us a few suggestions. While my wife worked on his suggestions, I started asking ALL the people around me how long they have been waiting, up to 4 hours... WHAT!!!! The good news is that we are still very young and will not apply for the benefits any time soon. I hope my wife gets online access years from now.... Atmosphere - Small parking lot, but more than enough spaces for everyone. Small lobby, not enough room for everyone. Clean restrooms. Service - The two security guards were friendly and nice. And also helpful. The rest of the employees were stressed out! Understaffed, overworked, and probably underpaid. Price - Decades of payroll contributions!!!!!!! The lady who called me today at 11am was completely rude and unprofessional. She needs to seriously be kinder. I pray for her hope she gets better. I think she needs some serious help. 9/8/2025 Called back a few months ago, and the rep. said that they had my birthdate wrong....???? Curious to how long it has been wrong... since 2005- when I requested a new card with my name change.... Yikes... sure glad I called- but nothing else could be done until I had it corrected. Arrived early, checked in via text-.. Security guards at the front- walked in and sat in class room formation... Tv monitor displays your ticket number and what window to go to...they also will announce your name. Provided documentation of b/c to show the correct birthdate- (clerical data entry error on them).. Will receive another card (free of charge).. within two weeks. Glad it's done... will call back in December to make another appt. in Jan. read more

Be sure to make an appointment, as it is required for services. Do your homework online before arriving, make sure you have completed all required documents and have the necessary forms of identification. I arrived a few minutes early, and the security guard asked if I had an appointment before directing me to the kiosks to check in. During my quick wait time, I received an automated email message saying that my number is being called. My number was called within five minutes of checking in and the process was quick and smooth. I provided my necessary documents, received my receipt, and was done within 10 minutes of my scheduled appointment time. The staff is set up for failure here. Completely understaffed causing appointments to be too far out for documentation people need as soon as possible. The wait is absolutely ridiculous if you don't have an appointment which does not work for people in certain situations who saw online that the appointments they have available are too far out. I couldn't get an appointment for a week but have to do this before my license expires. Guess I should have planned my wedding date around the social security office? First I made an appointment with the lovely Rosa on the phone. Mind you it took a few times over a few days to get through I recommend calling as soon as they open. All I needed to do was verify my identity locally after applying online for social security. My appointment was at 10:30 and I was done and out the door by 11:00! The lovely Pearla took great care of me! Even the security guys at the door were kind and helpful! The place was very clean as was the restroom! I am "becoming of age" and will be the proud recipient of Medicare soon. I was able to quickly and easily apply for Medicare online and called the Reno Social Security office for advice on other benefits come due to me next year. The lady on the other end of the phone was more than helpful in pointing out that I did not have to sign up for Medicare B since I was still working. In fact, if you take B, in my case, the government will actually charge you double. So she was able to make the change right them and there on my application and gave me other very helpful advice for what to do next year for Social Security benefits. The ease, friendliness and compassion from the person on the other end of the phone made the transition into "senior citizenship" very palatable. I had to relive and bring up those hard conversations of past death and loss to talk about future benefits. I am glad to have spoken with a patient, caring representative and not be face with cold bureaucracy. I arrived at about 8:30am and the SS office opens at 9am. I was #25 in line. I had a Name Change request and the rep asked us to form a second line for just that. I was now about #6 and this is the line that was called in first. After a brief stop at a window inside, they give you a number and you can sit down. Maybe after less than 10 minutes, I was called up to my window and five minutes later, I was done. No issues and no problems. THAT SAID, the Homeland Security doofus outside looking like a cheap rent-a-cop with a 9 mil needs to take a crap or get laid; he's a tightly-wound dude taking his job too seriously. Whatever you do, don't lie down on the grass (as the sign says) or you might find yourself tazed or in a headlock. read more

Needed to change my name after marriage. Filled out the paperwork online before I went and highly recommend as it saves time! Went on a Friday. Read other reviews to go early and that's the thing to do! I showed up an hour before they opened. Was 20th person in line. At 8:45 they asked each person in line why they were there. They split off the ones who needed name change or new social security card. At that point I was 5th in line to get in. At 9:00 went inside and got a number and was out of there by 9:20! Don't be discouraged by the long line outside in the early morning. Truth is, you don't need to show up until 8:30-8:45am for parking. The guards come outside to separate the group into 2 lines at 8:45am pending what your business is with the office. When I went, the new or replacement card customers were in one line and went into the building first. I sat and waited for another hour before my number was called even though I was in the first group to get inside. Other than that, have your paperwork and ID's ready to go. From the second you walk in a friendly security guard greets you and directs you what to fill out and where to check in. It is a smooth transition and didn't have to wait long. I was kinda worried....... Appointments were a month out, and I was told on the phone to walk in. I arrived at 8:30a on a Friday and the line was already to the parking lot. Doors opened at 10 til and we were told to use the kiosk for a ticket to be seen. Rows of chairs facing the large screen tv called the numbers and told you which door or window to go to. Numbers began to be called promptly at 9. I was called, I had my name change form already filled out, my decree showing my legal change, old drivers license and old social security card. Today I was scheduled for another call with the social security office they mailed me a letter for a conference call with Chuck the letter read at 3:30 on the first page. I waited for that call which never came. I noticed he called at 12:30 and 1:46 this afternoon. The lady in the office asked me who is it with. I informed her it was with Chuck. I am use to only one call. Apparently since they're at home they get off early. She told me he left for the day. They call only two times during that time frame but don't explain that . But they can take our money. Which does not hurt anyone but us the client. So glad everything is worked around them. The social security employee and office. Their calling time is listed as 12:39 PM - 3:30 Pm but they only call two times what works for them. Apparently he left early. Like them still not having to go into the office. Not being clear within that time frame. And the money is coming out they arranged the next month. So we the client lose not them. So Chuck and social security have nothing to worry about for any inconvenience. Like them harassing me the past 4 months. Out if the last 5. Minutes ver something that happened back in 2019. It was discussed and I was told it was okay. Now I'm being harassed all of a sudden. Taking away my benefits. Giving then back to Me having to call them back from their misinformation . Then them not getting my paperwork out to me. Not letting me know what's going on like they said they would. Instead they set up payment arrangements for me. Their excuse. Because it's so confusing for them with everything at their homes. Then Get back in the office then. The paperwork wouldn't get complicated or confusing. You could keep things organized. Being left on hold repeatedly for over 2 hours. Over and over by their people is rude. While they go to lunch. Not being able to speak to a supervisor. Constantly getting rude individuals over and over . And I just got hung up on. Because this lady didn't want to hear about what I had to say about my having to possibly loosing my benefits this next month because of this mixup with her and Chuck. This past 4 months. Telling me do you want me to help you or not. ( Not her problem.) She hung up. How polite of her. They don't have to deal with me. Really. I'm frustrated with Them too. But that's their customer service. There is none. And that's their answer. Leave us on hold for hours. Hung up on us. Don't answer. Have attitude. Why are they excused for their unprofessionalism. They've caused all this themselves. If it was their livelihoods they wouldn't want to be treated this way either. I've requested to talk to a supervisor but I'm still dealing with the same people causing me all the confusion. Being told a different story every call. Nothings ever resolved. I'll be homeless soon. With all their deductions being taken out for something I didn't deserve to have done. Because Chuck did it his way. And ever other person did too. An you wonder why we have a high homeless problem. Just like this. No one cares. These individuals start it. And everyone after drops the ball. Because they don't care. They don't follow up properly and get the paperwork out. We get lost in the shuffle . We are another case that Chuck and the rude lady close because they think they are the only ones who get to dictate who gets benefits. Who's messages get through. And who's don't. I know when I worked I listened with intent to all the clients. Customer service is still bottom line and the customer is always right. You bend over backwards for them no matter what. We're all going through tough enough times. Right now We don't need to add to it. I've lost my Medication the last 3 months because of their messing around with my benefits. I'm completely handicapped. And doing my best. Seems they aren't even trying. I keep calling them to fix their mistakes. Find out where the paperwork is. And they really don't care either. They hang up. Don't call me. Or try to fix their mistakes. Maybe they should start. Came in on a Monday and my experience was not bad at all. Came in to check on benefits for my mother and literally only sat there for 30 minutes and was called up right away. I don't know if we're lucky, but we were told that Mondays are the busiest and that we'll end up getting stuck there. The security was friendly upon entry and directed us to where to check in. I have not stepped foot into a Social Security Office since I was a teenager. WOW how things have changed. I dropped my father off on a line that was out the door and into the parking lot. There were no spaces in the lot but street parking was found 3 blocks away. The line out the door moved slow since there was only one kiosk to sign in. We got our number and we waited and waited. The numbers don't seem to be in sequential order since there are 4 letters (I assume each letter determine what the issue is) and numbers that don't seem to start at #1. The staff was nice enough getting us checked in. When our number was called, the gentleman who helped us was very kind in waiting for my father to get to the window. He's old and they tended to recall the number immediately. Our issue was an easy one. Handled with a quick print out. I had serval other questions which he handled well: #1 I heard a rumor that we needed new Social Security Cards. Not unless you want one. I'll keep the one I got at 16 thank you! #2 How do you set up an online account without a credit card or tax return? The clerk set me up with an access code. All in all I hope I don't have to go back to office for another 34 years but now I know to arrive at 8AM to maybe the 10th in line! read more

Phone system says their taking appointments for emergencys only. I called to ask for help replacing my social or proof expedited before me hire paperwork on a guaranteed job. Missed a great opportunity couldn't keep up with my rent. I was already late. And my first paycheck lined up perfect with my deadline. Im getting evicted in 2 days, thanks for nothing. Appointments can't be made for anybody according to the lady on the phone. I wish I got paid to clock in and not do my job too. Where do I apply?? Oh wait. Horrible staff that will ignore almost ALL written correspondence you ever send. Do not live in the entire Northern NV service area! They will get your any kind of Social Security CANCELLED!!! Take it from someone screwed over trying to just legally update contact info. in writing you pretty much need an attorney to do any kind of contact with these monsters!
