At the Social Security Administration Office, I walked in just as the doors opened and saw a manager handling a difficult situation with an elderly couple. It wasn't easy, but she stayed calm, clear, and respectful. She held the room together. When I got to the window, the woman who helped me was gracious, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. No friction, no confusion, just clear help, quickly. You never count on easy, but this was. If you need to replace a Social Security card or get a hard copy, this is the office to go to. I had a very good experience here. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous. The wait time was not too bad. The security guard was also very helpful making sure people knew where to go and asking around if no one responded when a number was called. The complaints from others are absolutely nothing to do with this SSA office. It sounds like the poor ratings are from people who didn't want to be there in the first place. This office closed 5 min before closing time. I drove so far just to get denied at the door. I told the security guard it's not even 4pm and all he said "it doesn't matter". It's so difficult to get there at 4pm and I managed to get there 5 min before 4pm. I was so disappointed and frustrated by this location. read more

I cannot believe these people. How long is a person supposed to wait? What's the point of coming in early to wait in line at 830 for a 9am opening and still be sitting in the waiting area at 2pm?!?!? This is unbelievable. Got a number from the kiosk at around 910am, saw a lady at the counter at around 940 thinking not too bad. Turns out my parents need to have an "interview" with someone and told it would be a long wait. Ok, no problem, I can do a few hours. It has been 4 hours since then and I'm STILL waiting on them to call my name. I cant comprehend how anyone who has come here after 11am could possibly get helped before they close at 4pm. It seems almost impossible. There were long pauses in the office where no one was called, hour long ones. What the Hell are they doing in there? We've past the point where they've taken a lunch themselves, evident by the screens at the kiosk and not calling anyone up. Been here since 830 and cant leave bc I'm fearing they'll call my name and then I'lll lose my spot. I'm here to help translate for my elderly parents and I can only imagine being in their shoes when I'm so hungry and tired. Please everyone avoid this location at all cost. Its currently 2pm and my name hasnt been called. That's a full five hours after coming in. Edit: the next day and a more concise summary So just to make things clear, I came here at 830am for their opening at 9am. I did so because there's always a line. Opened at 8:58 or so and I got to the kiosk at 910 and finally saw a window clerk at 940. She tells me to wait for an interview and it will take a while. I eventually get called at 245pm! for those doing the math, that's almost a six hour wait. The interview took long also, ended at 425pm. Hi. I've had good experiences at the Malden Office. It's the only office I've been to, where the waiting isn't long. I've been in there at least 4X. The only thing, watch out for one particular lady. She was no help at all, and kept yelling at me, and didn't help me at all. When I left, a gentleman commented and said, she did the same to him and then went back and got a real nice person who solved his problem. I should have asked for another person after her, but I thought I would have had the following week to go back and solve my issue with a reasonable person. Unfortunately if was the last day before office was closed to Corona. (Speaking of which, then I could never reach anyone by phone for 6 weeks). So, yes I like the Malden Office. One bad apple out of many. It wouldn't be fair to give them all an "F", when they are all "A+".Just watch out for the HATCHET LADY. SHE acts as if it was her money she was doling out, and was reluctant to hand it over, although you were rightfully entitled. I won't mention her name, but as soon as you sit down, you will notice her very loud voice telling a customer off, instead of helping him/her. Some of the reviews look pretty negative but I have to thank Mrs. Coombs who couldn't have been more helpful with a Medicare and social security issue. I have been trying since March to get a copy of my 1099 for 2020. Sonny said I would have it in a week in March. No luck!! Then, I talked to a Mrs. Hower (spelling not sure of) and she said I would have it in a week to 10 days. Then, I talked to someone ,not in the Malden office, and he said that I would have it by May 17th. I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't just go to the office and get a copy. Thought I did my homework by checking the hours posted on the website and confirming with the federal holiday list. Government offices are open on the Friday after Thanksgiving. BUT WAIT! Not the Malden one. They go rogue and close on their own and put a useless sign on their door, so the only way you discover they're closed, is by waking up and getting to their door at 8:50am to read this garbage sign. There were about 15 other cars filing through having the same experience I did. How is anyone supposed to get anything done, when these offices create their own unofficial hours, and the official hours are a portion of the day when most people are at their own jobs? I get it- no one wants to work the day after Thanksgiving. On the other hand, no one wants to go to the SS office the day after Thanksgiving, but they do it because it's the only option they have (rather than taking a vacation day/unpaid absence). Quite frankly the Social Security Administration simply sucks. The service from 800# is dismal. 3 calls, answering the same questions with 3 promises of either a call or a letter with an appointment came up with nada. Went to the wrong office and waited over an hour to be told this. I was expecting the worst when I got to Malden at the end of the day. The guards were nice! I waited less than 30 minutes. The worker was very competent and acknowledged that I could not apply for spousal benefits online. I'm glad that I walked in. read more
