I called and made an appointment last month. My appointment was today at 11:15am, but I wasn't on the list so I couldn't get in. The security guard told me I would have to call and make another appointment then he told me that I probably won't get through because the phone has been down for a week and they are still working on it! The man behind me in line also had an appointment but he wasn't on the list either. He was told the same as me. It's ridiculous. it's also far from my home and out of the way. 40 minutes driving there and back and the man wouldn't even let me go in to make an appointment. He told "You'll have to call but the phones are down and have been for a week." when he could have got me another appointment or checked on the computer because I had an appointment. i mailed my documents in, in september of 2021 for my last name change. i haven't received them back STILL--& called today to get an update & they said my last name was changed in OCTOBER. a different lady called me back & said i didn't add my apt. # & so it got sent back. my apologies! but why haven't i received any form of communication since then? & she was rude. no thanks-- read more

This whole system is screwed up. We've applied for our daughter social security card 3 different times by mailing in the application. Our documents are returned and without an explanation why they won't process it. EVERY-TIME you call you get a different answers or things to do. Oh you need an appointment or no you don't need appointment! Honestly the fact that we've been trying to get her social for OVER 18 months is ridiculous. The phone service explaining what I needed to do was polite and accurate, the security guard who lets you in efficient and the counter service quick, easy and polite. Get there when they open, be prepared and it was under 5 minutes in and out! read more

They sent my dying father's application to this location which is THREE hours away. It's been SIX MONTHS without a single update, not a single letter or status in the portal. SIX MONTHS! We went to his local SSA office and they said they could not help us because it's at this location with a guy named Joseph. They gave me Joseph's number, I've called and left over 30 voicemails and never once has he returned my call. When I call this location and in the off chance I get through (usually I wait 45 min on hold only for them to hang-up on me) they wont help me and just say, we'll send Joseph an email to contact you....I tell them he NEVER does that their email wont work I need help. Finally, I plead with a guy named Alex who answers that please just tell us what he needs and it was as easy as taking his identification into his local office because the names were not matching up. That simple? We waited 5 months and all we had to do was take his ID in???? Well, we did that, they email Joseph that we completed the task, the local office (and all their recordings) say it should be worked on with 5 days....local office said 2 days.....here we are 3 weeks later and STILL NO WORD, I just waited 56 minutes on hold to speak to someone and they wanted to verify my father's info, who is at home sick and dying, so I asked if they would PLEASE hold to conference him in....they said they would, I switch over and THEY HUNG UP!!!! I don't know what to do anymore, I don't know why in my dad's final days on this earth he is stressed out over this application?! I can't answer that, I'm just a desperate daughter trying to remove any stresses on his mind so he can go in peace....the only thing I can conclude is Joseph is lazy or racist and refuses to work on applications with Hispanic last names. 6 MONTHS WITH NO WORD, NO LETTERS, NO RETURN CALLS! read more

My only experience(s) going to a Social Security office is at this one, which (from what I understand) is probably good thing considering most have a DMV-like reputation. It helps (probably A LOT) that this office doesn't deal directly w/assigning SS numbers & issuing cards. They pretty much deal w/monetary stuff pertaining to SS (retirement,death benefits, disability, etc...). The office is small, but clean. It's a kind of a weird set-up. You get checked/questioned by a security guard when you enter, then you go to a machine, enter your SS number, answer a few questions, and they give you a number. The seating area is rows of aluminum benches. I've had two experiences here (I had to come back 2-3x for each) & I can't think of a single time I had to wait that long for my number to be called. Where long waits can occur is if you actually have to "interview" w/someone to review information. However, once you're called back the people who conduct said interviews are nice & knowledgable (at least that was my experience). read more

Started standing in a line at 8:45 A.M with Doors Opening at 8:50, the Officer allowing us all to check in before 9 and exactly 9:00 they started calling Numbers ,It went really fast ! Good Location ,very friendly Staff , and the front Officer did a awesome Job Keeping the place safe ! I think we might have been there for a total of 45 minutes(from line to finish) I applied for retirement and Medicare ,was unable to complete the process online . 10 stars for the staff and Officer, awesome job!!! read more

Just got back from this office and it was a joyful surprise. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from people that didn't do their research or home work. Last night I applied for retirement benefits online (another painless experience) and the site said that all I had to do was furnish my birth certificate by either mail or in person. Since I have only one, I decided to go in person. Left my house (4 miles away) and was back home in 45 minutes! TOTAL. Went thru security, got a number, called in 15 minutes, done deal. Friendly, professional help at the window (#2), no problems. Yes, there were people that were still waiting from before I arrived, but none of them could've been waiting more that 2 hours since that was when they opened the doors. Maybe their needs were more complicated than mine, but I have nothing but good things to say about this office. read more

I don't know about the people who wrote negative reviews about the Mesa, AZ office but my experience was awesome. I spent almost two hours on the telephone attempting to get information thru the 1-800 number, only to be on hold (four attempts) all the time. I drove to the Social Security office, without an appointment, and was waited on within ten minutes by a nice young man named Gilbert. He took my information and asked me to be seated while he gave the information to the proper person. Again within ten minutes I sat with a super lady by the name of Bonita. She answered my questions and explained the correct steps for me to take to get my situation resolved. While the office was busy both people took their time and did a great job. Andrew is a gracious gentleman, very knowledgeable, was very thorough in untangling the complication of my situation, and securing the best results possible. I went to their office in Apache Junction. It took me 35 minutes to drive there. When I arrived I got in line at the kiosk. Some lady called the guard over because she was having trouble with the computer. Then the guard turned around and asked me what I am there for. I told him it was for a name change. Then he gave me a paper with 2 locations in Phoenix. These locations were about 1 hour away. It was a waste of time and I went home upset that this information is not stated on their website. Why aren't all services offered at all locations? The guard was a little nosey and aggressive. I won't be back there again. read more

Hello fellow Yelpers, First time having to go to Social Security for anything... Needless to say we were not looking forward to this! We were pleasantly surprised! Got there at 9a short line... Moved pretty quick. Your first interaction is with the security man who we found serious yet that friendly gleam in his eye indicating he was really a friendly guy just doing his job! You put your social security number in a computer and out pops your number! Easy schemzy! Waited maybe 15 minutes and was attended to by a very friendly and helpful young man! Needed more answers than he can provide so we had to wait for another... Back to the numbers board. Only took 10 minutes until we were called and helped by CRISTINA. Super helpful super friendly! She truly acted like she cared and was able to answer our questions! Thank you to the staff for your excellent work! Hopefully we won't have to ever go back... But if we did we won't dread it! So in conclusion remember to always take time to stop and smell the roses.... You only live once! read more

I accompanied my mother-in-law to the Social Security office in Mesa, AZ this week and wanted to share about our positive experience; especially since Government agencies typically get a bad wrap. Despite negative reviews here on yelp, we went in with an open-mind. The security guard at the front was friendly and helpful. The rep who did our initial intake was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The wait time after the intake wasn't too long (about 30 minutes). Andrew, the service rep who helped us, was polite, friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to ensure my mother-in-law was getting the SS distribution she is entitled to based on her circumstances. Andrew explained how the process worked, the result of situation he was helping her with and patiently answered all our questions; he was truly customer-focused! In my experience, you get what you expect! Go in with an open-mind, do your homework ahead of time and be a friendly and caring customer as well!! Many times the circumstances in which government employees help people are very difficult at best; remembering and assuming that they get up everyday wanting to make a positive difference in the lives of those they serve (just like we all do), will help create the environment needed for a positive customer experience (regardless of the outcome). read more

The security guards are nice but I think they've forgotten that they aren't cops. Numbers were being called smoothly up until getting 2 numbers away from my moms number which began with B. Now everything has been stalled while they stick to calling only numbers that begin with F. We've waited for over an hour and continue to wait. This review is not for the lady that helped me she was great it's for the security guard who helped some others locate their problem but not me. When I got there he asked me what I was therefore I told him and he told me to get a number. What he didn't tell me that they can't offer me service. Thirty minutes in and out to deal with a scam phone call. Friendly knowledgeable staff - security guard does keep people off the phones which was explained to me as necessary in order to hear the crappy sound system that calls out numbers. Very pleasant experience overall. read more

The Security Officer at the entrance of the Mesa office was extremely helpful. He was very nice and friendly. Even though he told us that we had to go to a different location in Phoenix for what we needed to do, it was very pleasant to be greeted by such a nice gentlemen.
