My friend had an appointment with Social Security in the afternoon. We made a day of it by visiting other places prior to this visit. We arrived early in the hopes of being seen early. We did our usual check in at the kiosk and received a number for help. The agent was 15 minutes late for the scheduled appointment. He was swift and efficient. My friend had questions but he said he didn't have time. I didn't think that was right especially that he kept us waiting, I understand there are other customers who need help but don't dismiss those who have a few questions. Someone at this office apparently put some kind of fraud block on my elderly mother's account so she can't change information on her SS government account online and she can't make changes by phone which is absurd! She went to this location a few months ago and witnessed several employees being overly aggressive and rude to other elderly patrons and looking at the reviews it seems to be a common occurrence here. read more

I was surprised with how quick and easy my experience was here. I usually dread going to these places, but it was simple with my appointment already being scheduled. They do require appointment prior to arrival. Be sure to have all your documents ready. First of all, if you don't have an appointment, please make sure you come at around 8:40AM (20 minutes before it opens) and wait in line. You will be guaranteed the first spot once they are open. My mother changed her citizenship status, so when we came at 8:40AM, there were only 7 people before us. As soon as it was open, we came to the first available window and we got out in 8 minutes. Two stars may be on the generous side. Opens at 9am, I arrived at 9:20 am. Line was 40 deep at the door. The inside was packed, 40-50 people seated and waiting. To make a long miserable story short I was finished 1:20pm. The employees were good but this office is certainly set up to fail when it comes to time. I called previously to schedule an appointment. I simply needed to drop off completed paperwork, the 800 service agent said not necessary just come in and drop them off . . .no such thing . . . still had to wait. I was actually worried to visit this location after reading all the scary reviews. I walked in terrified that I was going to receive the worst customer service ever. The first person I encountered was the security guard and he was very friendly. Water bottles are not allowed so we were told to leave our bottle at the front desk. Next I went to the window to check in and the employee was very friendly! She checked me in quickly and we were told to wait. I waited about an hour until I finally got called to the back. The employee then who helped me was also friendly! What???? Yes so all three employees I encountered were very nice.. The office was clean and so was the bathroom. I was glad I went to this branch compared to the others in town because they do more limited business than a full office. The waiting space wasn't too big and the atmosphere was a bit prison-like after having been searched and every pocket of my bag opened to look for weapons by a poker-faced security guard that gave an expression of "don't even try to nice." We had to ditch our water: not allowed. You can't talk on your phone and have to read or stare at the wall in calmness, which we all did being nervous as hell for anticipation of possible confusion and stress. I brought my Mom since my Dad passed and we had to get her on his SS benefits; in other words, a necessarily and painful life event. Luckily we were taken care of by Allen who was the one employee who stood out. Everyone else had their number called from to a jail-cell looking window but Allen came out personally to greet each person he was there to serve, and led us back to be seated. He started off by talking to his computer a bit before telling us "I know why you are here" which made us feel a little better, he was nice in giving condolences. He had all the information we needed. We ran into some computer issues when he cancelled an appointment we made (which was too far in the future, so we just decided to walk in) so we couldn't process the whole claim on the spot, but he took our information and called us back later to put it in the computer, and it all came through beautifully the next week. The whole thing was less painful and more friendly than I expected. read more

I admit I dreaded going because I was expecting an experience similar to going to the DMV. But I was pleasantly surprised that I had a very good experience there. The guard was very friendly and courteous. I did not have to wait long before I was called. The woman who helped me was pleasant and courteous. I was turning in my Medicare application and she processed it expediently. The key to visiting any government office is to go on less busy hours and days. Avoid Mondays and days right after holidays. I must say that I had a wonderful experience at this location. (Jerome ave Mesa,Az)The security guard is very professional and courteous. I did not have to wait a long time to be seen. When my number was called and I sat at the window Bonita was absolutely Amazing! She took her time to explain how social security works. I had no clue because this is all new to me since I have been helping my brother.She really wanted to make sure I understood SSI and SSDI and different programs that are available. This is important that we have more people like her because most people Don't understand how social security works and they just need to be educated on it. I visited this office two weeks ago to drop off some forms requested by Social Security. I received a letter from Social Security in May requesting information about a pension I receive. The letter stated that Social Security believed I may have been overpaid the past year because of receiving that pension. I was instructed in the letter to mail documents to a Social Security office in Chicago which I did by regular mail in June. The envelope never arrived in Chicago, so in July I mailed the same documents by certified mail. It too never arrived but tracking showed it was in the sorting location in Chicago. I was out of town in September for several weeks and when I arrived home in early October, I had another letter from Social Security stating that because I had never submitted the forms (yeah, right), my Social Security payments were being suspended with the October payment--which is was. I finally took the documents to this Jerome Avenue location in Mesa, AZ, and tried to drop the envelope at the door. (I had called the office the previous day and was told, I could do that.) When I arrived at the office, 30 people or so were waiting outside in the heat. Most of them looked to be younger than 40. I was not expecting to wait 2 or 3 hours to drop off the envelope, but when I tried to explain my purpose in being there to the security guard , he was super rude and arrogant--a real little Hitler--and told me I had to wait. I explained that I was diabetic and had not eaten that morning because I had a dental appointment earlier in the day and my blood sugar was getting low. He said I had to wait my turn Some of the people in the front of the line heard his rudeness and let me get in the front of the line. Very considerate of them and I appreciated it very much, but when the guard asked for the next person to come to the door and he saw it was me, he refused to let me just give him my envelope and leave. To say I was angry at being treated so inhumanely would be an understatement. I went to a nearby post office, mailed the envelope--again by certified mail at a cost of $5--and finally this time the US Post Office did its job and delivered it. That was 12 days ago. My Social Security payment still has not been restarted and I have heard nothing from Social Security. I am 68 years of age. I have never caused any trouble with the government or police--not even a speeding ticket--and yet this is how the government treats ordinary people. Is this really necessary? Can we not treat our citizens with a little more dignity and compassion? I guess I am just an old foolish man to expect some respect from government officials. Nothing moves very fast in the government, especially when everyday citizens are involved. My Social Security payment is the difference between me paying my bills and buying groceries. A local food pantry has been giving be food or I would have nothing. read more

I had a good experience at this office. They got me in and out in about an hour and a half. I needed to apply for my Social Security benefits and Medicare, having turned 65, and I was away from my hometown of San Diego. I had tried to do it online but was told I didn't qualify for that method. I tried to do it by phone and that didn't work either, so I just went to this office which was only about a mile from where I was staying. I only had about a 15 minute wait when I got there, even with no appointment. An hour and a half after I walked in the door I walked out fully qualified for Social Security and Medicare. Worst customer service by any government agency. Multiple requests for documents and always a different answer why they can't or won't make an appointment or give a statement that they will contact their supervisor and hung up, or that they will email their boss for the document as they do not have authority to send document. Considering this is in regards to a ruling already on record by an ALJ (administrative law judge), this is beyond unacceptable and used as a typical response to shirk duties or prolong finaixal issues they should have resolved years ago. read more

Government office. Waited outside with a small child for 30 minutes because they only let a certain number of people in at a time. It was 110 and very hot. No shade was provided. After going inside a homeless man with a backpack who looked very sick and coughing came and slept across 3 seats. He didn't look well and kept moaning but was not checked for temp or anything. 1 week later I was very sick. Im sure I got it from that place. I called and made an appointment last month. My appointment was today at 11:15am, but I wasn't on the list so I couldn't get in. The security guard told me I would have to call and make another appointment then he told me that I probably won't get through because the phone has been down for a week and they are still working on it! The man behind me in line also had an appointment but he wasn't on the list either. He was told the same as me. It's ridiculous. it's also far from my home and out of the way. 40 minutes driving there and back and the man wouldn't even let me go in to make an appointment.
