My visit was good, no long waiting time and I got what I needed to get done. However the security are very rude. It was me and my newborn baby, she's sleeping in her car seat and they checked me first. Then I went back through to get my baby and they made me take her out waking her up. Walk through. And then go back and get her car seat. I have all my paperwork ready in my hands the diaper bag my baby out of her car seat and the car seat itself. And first I just let my arm go holding the bag and the car seat so I can hold my baby safely. And there is a chair at the end of the checking by itself (the security's chair) and I ask " sir can I use this to put my baby's car seat on it so I can put my baby in. And he gives me a very dirty look and said "No go use another chair over there and points across the room. And I say " it's just a second to put my baby back in" and he just stays staring at me all mad and grabs the chair towards him. What an asshole! read more

If you don't want to wait in line too much you have to get there early. We got there around 9:05 am and there were almost 30-40 people in line already. I think you need to get there around 8:30 am or even earlier. They make everyone get in line and let one person enter at a time because you have to go through security with a metal detector. Once you get in make sure you check in through one of two computer kiosks before you go and sit down. Depending on what you are there for you will get a number which they will call you to a specific window. Overall we waited little over an hour and as soon as we got to the window we were ok. read more

I came on a Tuesday morning and waited in line at 8am. The line was not that long. The place opened at 9am but they were only letting people in one at a time. I finally got in twenty minutes later. The security guard was nice, and there was someone to direct me to a window. The Asian lady in the wheel chair was very nice and even asked how my day is going so far. She answered all of my questions and helped me with what ever I needed to do. I was out of there at 9:40! This place isn't so bad, I was just annoyed of the people that was complaining in line. Btw, you can do almost anything online! Save yourself some time, and check online first before arriving. read more

The employees of this place is lacking organization, care for public service or behavior suitable for interacting with human beings. Let me start with the ill-mannered behavior of those 2 "uniformed" security guard at the main entrance who were on duty today, May 17, 2019 around 1pm who was yelling and power tripping, feeling like a Rambo. He was screaming his instruction to everyone in line to enter the premise. It was almost hilarious to hear him Screaming, "take off your watch before you in to the scanner" with gusto... really, the watch?! the TSA at the airport dnt even make those instructions about watch! Then, there was an elderly lady who was in line had asked him if he could wait inside and let her companion line up for her, because she was feeling dizzy from the heat of the sun and she was exhausted, he replied "NO!" And pointed at the plant box saying, "you can sit there and you both can go in together when it's your turn". Then went back to his Ala Rambo mode with his commands to everyone in line. I have never witnessed a totally unfit and behaving like a mentally disturb person wearing a uniform. Are we actually contributing our tax dollar to this type of guy's paycheck to harass us, citizens who has valid business we need to conduct inside the premise? read more

The lady named "ms Unn". The heavy, curly haired, Latina one. Who sits at the first window. She told me I would need a certain document, so I went home came back. Only to be told that I didn't need the document. I only needed my id, which I had the first time and she knew I had it. I should've listened to the other reviews and not visit this location. Very unnecessary for her to do that. Not a good look for a representative to be petty that way. read more

I haven't had enough opportunities to go to the social security office to realize it's a lot like going to the DMV. Just because it opens at 9 a.m. doesn't mean you should get there at 9 a.m. When I needed to go in recently and found out they didn't take appointments, I figured as long as I got there by opening time I would be OK. But when I got there 10 minutes before it was supposed to open, there were already about 50 people ahead of me who had taken a number and were waiting in the lobby. This office location is well run and the security up front is very efficient and will give you all necessary directions (make sure to fill out your application before your number is called!). Despite the number of people ahead of me, the wait wasn't too long and I was out of there in under an hour. But still. 50 people?! Moral of the story? Go early and take a number. read more

This location is very degrading. Security check point but before that you must wait out side. Oh God! No one gave me elbow room. No personal space here!! Once inside no a/c and not nearly enough chairs for everyone. I arrived at 10:30 am and the wait looked to be 3 hours. You will go insane waiting there for 3 hours! I waited 5 minutes and could not bare another second. Call me a princess but I'm going to another city. Definitely not a bad as I was expecting. I had to get a new social security card and I came in 30 minutes before closing, on a Friday before a 3 day weekend, AND without an appointment. I knew it was going to be packed, but it was the only time I could do it. Anyway, we got there and when I checked in, I saw that there were about 100 people in front of me!! Talk about a nightmare of a situation...or so I thought! Long story short, we were in and out if there in less than 1.5 hours. Considering the number of people and the Friday situation, I'd say that was a miracle! To top it off, the woman helping me (Ms.Ramsey??) was fantastic! She was super friendly, efficient, and very sweet. No complaints here! read more

It does take a while to get serviced if you don't have an appointment but the workers here, including the police officers are very polite. They treated me with much respect and courtesy. read more

Just got off the phone with Ms. Jacoks (?) I suppose she's the receptionist. She was incredibly rude and after having our whole lives turned upside down by a terrible illness, the last thing I need is to be treated terribly and then intentionally hung up on. She needs some sensitivity training, or maybe a job far, far away from the public. read more

Nobody ever actually wants to go to the social security office. I was dreading my visit to this office and although not a perfect experience, it wasn't as horrible as it could have been. Today I was in and out of there in under 90 minutes. The line kept moving. The security guards were on it and personable. The first time I went with two of my sons and one of the security guards gave my son an encouraging talk about keeping to his schoolwork and getting involved in sports so he can try for a scholarship in the future. My son still talks about that. The clerks I dealt with, on both visits, were friendly, helpful, and efficient. Everyone is trying to make the most of it all. I am not a fan of touching the check in machines. The crowd can get a bit sketchy especially in the outside line but most people are just doing what they need to do. I felt like this was a much better experience than when I had to go to the Lakewood office a year ago. If I have to go down in person, this is my location of choice. read more

I am so terribly disappointed in the way the Long Beach Social Security Administration has handled their services during this pandemic. In a time when we needed them most, they shut their doors to the public almost completely. The leadership should be ashamed. About two months ago I tried calling their office. The wait was long and when they finally picked up the line, they would just hang up on you. It took me several days and someone finally answered. She didn't know the answer to my question so she transferred to someone's desk whose answering machine finally picked up, I left a message and a call back number but never received a call back. I kept calling and calling until that same person answered but this time she actually knew the answer. I explained to her that the social security department had made an error on one of the letters in my last name and I just needed for them to correct the problem because the IRS sent me a letter asking me to do just that. The person I spoke to, asked me to go to their website and fill out a form along with other personal information and bring it to their office around 8 A.M. I did just as she asked and when I arrived to their Long Beach branch, their office was closed. I called again, and waited, and waited until I finally got through. This time she told me that they only take your paperwork on Tuesdays, so I took a day off and went there early trying to beat the crowd, only to find a line that was a mile long. I waited for hours until they finally took my paperwork. They said I would get a letter in the mail. I even went as far as to send them an extra set of paperwork in the mail just in case the one I took there personally got lost. One month later I received a letter from them that said "We cannot issue you a social security card at this time because you have not given us the documents we need to show identity" What the heck!!! I even confirmed the paperwork with the person in the office to make sure everything was okay, i gave them exactly what the website asked for. They even returned some of my paperwork on the letter, but not all of it. It's been several weeks of them giving me the run around. I never asked them for a social security card I just wanted them to fix one letter "they" misspelled by error. They do not care for the public, shame on them for the treatment they have given to people. I don't even know how to get this problem fixed. No one can give you an answer as to when their offices will reopen to the public again. How sad!!! read more

I am not sure what they do there. I was sent from General relief do to domestic violence I was seeking refuge here in LB . It's been 2yrs trying to obtain disability benefits I've had a hip replacement, tendons repaired and probably one more surgery to fix umbilical hernias . Then my boyfriend had to drive me to LA to Health Advocate attorney and that was 2 mos ago.? They told me again 12-18 mos there should be some kind of expediting made for victims of crime who have had severe damage! I would be on the street if I didn't have my boyfriend to help me. I have been diagnosed 2013 Teitzes disease, last yr TMJ, Abnormal Eng VNG they think caused by anxiety, hip replacement, acute osteoarthritis, umbilical hernia, acute head trauma, and degenerative joints disease. And I experience reverse discrimination because I look healthy on the outside and my skin is White....My parents families came here legally and my family has faught in all our major wars I am the only one who didn't serve. My dad Irish/Spanish my mother Russian Jew who's mother and aunt survived Aushwutz! read more

I would give 5 star if I didn't have to wait outside in the hot sun. I came in at 9:30 Monday morning without an appointment. Line was wrapped around the corner outside (probably 20-30 people ahead of me). Luckily I had an umbrella because there is no shade outside and it was already getting hot. I waited about an hour outside before I was called into the building. Once inside, it was very cool and pleasant. Inside is clean unlike the unpleasant smell while waiting in line outside. So once inside, I went through security check just like at the airport except you don't have to take shoes off lol and you can bring drinks. Once you pass security, you check in at the kiosk to get a service number. Then you wait in line to check in with the clerk. Only 3 people ahead in line so it was very quick. Once the clerk confirm what you're in for and if you have all the documents you have a seat. There were lots of unoccupied seats. There were only about 10-15 people sitting out of approximately 50 seats. My number was called shortly after I sat down (15 min). I give 5 stars to the man, Mr. Winslow for helping process my name change on my social security card. He also noticed an error regarding my citizenship status on my card and fixed it. He was the nicest social worker I have ever encountered anywhere! He was very patient, kind, polite, and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and was very helpful. I am so thankful of Mr. Winslow and glad I came here. read more

The staff I dealt with couldn't have been nicer once I saw them. Unable to get through by phone to make an appointment I showed up at 8:45 and found a line around the corner through the parking lot and onto 20th St. this line moved very slowly and some people were elderley or just handicapped . Some benches or even awnings to shelter the line from the sun would go a long way to making this a less desperate situation. Once in and past Security you check in at a screen where you enter your Social Security number , ( this seems rather public and insecure because anyone behind you can see the number. )and reason for visit then take a seat or stand and wait for your number to be called. Hours pass then your number is called . I was impressed by the lady who helped me as I stood , no chair at her window , and applied for Medicare. She was very helpful and gave me a verification letter which I needed in order to sign up for supplementary insurance . Four hours all told , I left then was told by my Insurance agents that the verification letter was missing a vital code letter after my identification number . Returned to SS office at noon the next day and found that they close at Noon that day. Getting though by phone is impossible so day three at the Social Security office may be the charm. Maybe get there at 7am , take a stool and water ?. Nice staff but there is a lack of organization and for many even if you have a computer there is NO way of dealing with matters on line . Your identification number on the card , once you get it , will be your Social Security Number . This is a risky idea and I know 'people' in Washington have been talking about changing it for years. read more

And this happened to me and another lady. They skipped my number and her number.
