Make an appointment and then hurry up and wait. The security here are always helpful and even more so then some of the staff who work for SS. When filling out the kiosk options ask the security officers for help. It's better than getting it wrong and then not being called on. Come prepared with all paperwork otherwise it will delay your situation and you'll have to come back again. Plenty of uncovered parking in the back of the building. read more

Apparently the first of the month is around the worst time to go to social security, but I had the day off and finally wanted to change to my husband's last name. I arrived just after 9AM and got out around 10:15. The security guards are very kind and helpful. The seating is tight, but I played a game on my phone. They are very strict about talking on the phone or playing videos/music - everything must be on silent. So it's a very peaceful wait. I got called to window 27. The woman was very pleasant and the actual name change took 2 minutes! This location was a breeze and I'll definitely come back to this one in the future. read more

Such a great experience at this Social Security office! The officer at the door today ( 11/02/2022) was polite, friendly and very helpful, walked me through every step and even congratulated me on my recent immigration status change! The counselor that I spoke with was absolutely accommodating, easy to speak with, and resolved my issues. The reason why I don't give five stars is because the guard, a woman, was just so unnecessarily stern in giving directions. She needs customer service training. Officer Reyes and his partner made things run smoothly. If you're in a hurry I recommend using the phone system to schedule an appointment. I walked in without an appointment and waited approximately 2 hours which I expected. The staff member who was working at the SS card window was so nice and efficient! read more

I want to start off by thanking the two officers working that day (Officer Reyes and Thomas) because they set the tone for my experience. I didn't know what to expect but I assumed that this was going to be the longest most unpleasant trip other similar to taking a trip to a dmv and I was wrong. I knew there was going to be a line so I woke up early to get their 10 minutes early thinking I would be one of the first ones... wrong, as I'm turning into the entrance, there were I kid you not, 10 cars in front of me turning into the same one. It's a big building so I'm thinking maybe I'll be lucky and they are just the ppl who work here. As soon as I get to the 2nd floor there was a line to get inside and a room full of people... I had to be the 5th one waiting outside the room but it went pretty fast. Like I said, I have to thank the two officers working that day because they were very kind and helpful... I expected to be there for at-least 2 hours seeing the room full of ppl and I left that office within less than an hour of being there. It was quick, efficient, and easy going experience. Things to know 1. Don't even bother making an apt because the phone will be ringing for 40 min+ 2. Plan a day to get there early in the am so you can be one of the first groups to see 3. Do your paperwork ahead of time so you don't have to do it there even though they will give you what you need! I really don't leave reviews unless I really love a place or hate a place but this experience stood out to me so I hope you have a similar experience to mine! read more

I just visited the social security office in Hackensack,NJ. I feel the need to let everyone now why my experience was so special. Officers Thomas and Michalski went out of their way to provide a comfortable, courteous, friendly and informative visit. They both went well beyond what I would've expected and carefully looked after every person that entered in such a kind way.. I cant say enough good things about them. This guard tells me I work for homeland security not social security. Fine I understand. I had a question in regards to where do I get a ticket. The next 3 people (who happen to be phillipino, Hispanic lady and another Hispanic lady) talk to him he says the same thing I don't work for social security I work for homeland security. A blonde light skin young lady and her baby walk in. She asked him 2 questions. He answered them lmfaooooo where was his energy of "I work for homeland security not social security" . He Even laughed a little with her lmao. I'll let the reviewers name the situation. Rude as hell to everyone else but this blonde light skin lady. One of the phillipino ladies even told him I don't have a question about social security. He still said I can't answer it lmfao read more

I had a second SSI perc interview on June 12th at 9:13AM for 46 minutes with Ms. Zaytseva. She was was extremely rude and gave me false information. She refused to give me a supervisor and hung up on me at the end of the call. I was VERY polite and questioned her false statements (For ex. she said I couldn't withdraw my SSI 2100$ April 2018 backpay and shouldve left it in the bank (WRONG). She said SSI cap is 500$ NOT 800$, WRONG! its 800$ as of 2018. She was spewing false information the whole interview! And was extremely rude. A very bad experience and traumatic. The whole conversation was recorded on her end - to my benefit. The most unprofessional person with no humanity or courtesy that ive ever spoke to in my entire life. I will file official complaints against her malice treatment of me during this interview. read more

GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. First of all, I got there at 3:20 pm. The office is supposed to be open until 4, but the door was locked and there was a line outside waiting. The security guard from inside peeked out about 3:40 said that we all probably wouldn't get in and we should come back another day. We were all pretty disgusted and some people went home. I stayed and somehow got in at 3:59. When I was finally called, the lady who waited on me regarding Medicare was the rudest, coldest, most smug person I have ever encountered. She kept interrupting and would not let me finish a sentence. She declared herself an "expert" in what she was talking about, yet she didn't respond to my simple (yet serious) question about health coverage. As I was talking she was staring off into middle distance and not listening. She was so rude and mean that on my way out I started to cry. The security guard turned out to be the nicest guy there - he comforted me and actually recommended that next time I go to the SS office in Union instead. read more

I was dreading a trip to the Social Security Office, I've been to government offices before and it was never a pleasant experience. Other than the rather gruff security guard when I entered the office, the trip was painless and more than satisfactory. There were about 30 other people in the waiting area when I arrived and after getting my number from the ticket machine I prepared for a long wait. To my surprise, the wait was only about 10 minutes, I was called to a booth spoke to a representative and was done within another 10 minutes. The rep was polite and professional. I would go back again in the future if I have any other problems. Kudos to a government office that is run well. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They have tbe most unprofessional and rude employees in existance. They dont tell you what forms you have to fill out so i had to wait in line for one hour and was told to wait in line again because I did not have a form filled out that takes less than one minute to fill out. Very rude and a waste of anyones time. I wish nothing but the worst for the lady who made me wait in line twice instead of letting me fill out the one minute form. read more
