I've heard horror stories about going to the social security office. The door opens at 9am. I showed up at 7:30a, was second in line. Once the doors opened at 9am, I walked up to the kiosk, signed in and in 5 minutes I was able to see a clerk and have my business taken care of. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes once the door opened. Please note, by the time 9am came around I the line was about 20+ deep. Parking is available or in the lot or street. read more

It was so challenging to make an appointment by phone, I could make one after a very long wait almost 2 months ago. I went to my appointment today and a very rude security guard did not even allow me in. He checked his list and said, I don't have your name on my list and there is nothing that I could do. You need to call the office and talk to someone in charge! I asked him to call someone who is in charge from the office but he refused. He even refused to call his supervisor! So I called the office and after about 40 min wait, talked to one of their agents. He told me he does not have access to the notes from the previous agent but he was insisting that I had misunderstood the appointment. Long story short, these folks are so rude! They don't care about people! Respect means nothing to them! They are discriminating people based on of their age or race. If you are living in Woodland Hills area, I would highly recommend you guys go to Thousand Oaks office or somewhere else. read more

It was a little difficult to get parking because I arrived about 30 minutes from when it opened in the morning. You wait outside for a bit and get a ticket so you can wait more inside. It is clean inside and they have bathrooms. There are screens so pay attention to your number and they will announce it as well. There are so many stations to go to once your name is called and the process probably took an hour from start to finish. I needed to change my last name because I got married and it was a pretty smooth process. I got my new Social Security card within two weeks. read more

This place gets a 1. No parking. The seats are way to close together. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. I feel like I can catch a disease just being here. I wish there was a way to have changed my last name to my new married name another way but of course there is not and I had to come into the office. Definitely come before they open and wait in line cuz the line is always out the door! The De Soto location is now closed (and gated and all grafiti'd up) I found this location from the website and came ahead of time since I knew the line would be out the door. What's nice about this location is they have someone at the kiosk asking youwhat you need as soon as you walk in so you get a number for the right issue. I got a Q number for getting a new or replacement social security card. The place opened at 9 am and I was out of there by 10:20. Luckily i brought a good book to keep me company. Do bring a book and be prepared to wait and wait some more. :) read more

Was pretty nervous for getting started on my name change after marriage but so far everything has gone so smoothly! I walked in without an appointment around mid day on a Friday. There were a lot of people waiting in the chairs but my number seemed to be called before a lot of people who were already there before me. Maybe it depends on what you need done. I waited for about 20-30 minutes. The clerk was super nice and asked me about my wedding and my husband. I was in and out of there in under and hour. I couldn't believe it. I opted for the Chatsworth location bc it had better reviews than Panorama City. I got married and needed a new SS card. I went on Monday, the day before July 4th and I was literally in and out. The young lady that helped me was really fast and the security guards were beyond helpful. Shocking but I had a good experience. I pulled into the lot at 8:22 am and raced another lady to the line. Already there were about 25 ppl in front of me. A little before 9 am, a security guard came out and asked if anyone had an appointment. Then he slowly let a group of 3 into the building. When you enter, check in at the kiosk on your right as it will dispense a ticket with a number. It'll ask for some basic information like your SS number and the reason for your visit. My ticket number was Q9 and judging from my number I think the benefits line might have been longer. Got my ticket at 9:15 am and was in my car calling my husband by 9:43 am. Just remember if you get there early, you'll be standing outside for awhile. I was pretty prepared except I forgot sunscreen for my face. Folks were standing off to the side for shade bc the sun was beaming down on us. If you're accompanying someone elderly, I saw 2 people with wheelchairs skip the line completely. I filled out my application ahead of time but they have applications there if you don't have a printer at home. Bring a pen with you. I think the parking lot accommodated about 30 cars or so. People that arrived later parked on the side of the street but the security guard warned us that across the street is a towing zone. There is a bathroom inside and it was kept clean. So glad I drove a little further for a better experience. Things you'll need to stay comfortable while waiting: sunscreen, hat, comfortable shoes, reading material, water/something cold to drink and some music to drown out the loud ass people around you. This branch does not deserve even half a star. This branch deserves no star at all! The staff are rude. Security guard is egoistic. My husband and I came in together for the same purpose. However, security guard had us sit away from each other! And our documents are in one envelope! I don't understand it! COVID or no COVID, when two people are coming in together, you're supposed to have them sit together! In another branch, they actually had us get the same number. Good luck getting anything accomplished, I spent 6 hrs on the phone then came to this office and waited 5 hours to get to the window. They had removed my Medicare B erroneously and sent me a letter saying I asked to stop it. Not true, i did not do such a thing and they agreed there is no evidence of me ever requesting that. I'm in the middle of medical treatment for a traumatic injury!! So they made me file appeals ( instead of reversing their error and reinstating me) to wait to get my Medicare back, that was more than two weeks ago. I'm going to have to cancel my dr appointment, because I can't prove I have Medicare B. I sent a letter to congressman and hope to God someone does the right thing! It's not very promising, because this office feels like a do nothing office. Plus they were overcharging me penalties when I provided proof that I had previously been on my husbands work medical insurance. They would literally let someone die with these kind of egregious mistakes. Take responsibility and fix your problems, stop traumatizing people. read more

I might be the only person in the world giving a government office 5 stars. But honestly my experience here was worth it. I'm in the process of changing my last name. I had all my documents and headed to this office. It has a nice sized lot so easily found a spot to park. When I walked in the building there is an officer standing there to greet you. He directs you to a kiosk machine to be assigned a number. If you don't understand how to use it, he helps you. He then kindly pointed out where the rest rooms were and told me to grab a seat anywhere. He also nicely told me my wait time based on how many people were in the waiting area. Which proved to be right. The place was packed. But people were quiet and polite. The flow seemed to be moving really fast. My number as called and the nice woman quickly and efficiently asked me questions and finished my name change. Absolutely painless.. And again, polite!! I would go to this location again should I ever need their services :) read more

I had a very bad experience with the Chatsworth Office I called a few days ago wanting to talk to the workers there to make an appointment they told me that I could not make an appointment Cause I needed to have an emergency well they say I owe AX amount of dollars and that was my emergency and itis a emergency and it still was not considered as an emergency And she told me that there was only 5 people working there And I also was on hold for over an hour She gave me by the name of miss Smith but I know that she was obviously lying to me And she really didn't hear what I had to say she kept on going on and on talking That she didn't know anything about SSAA she only knew the basics And 100% of being very rude I would not recommend this office read more

I dreaded going to Social Security in my pregant condition, but it had to be done, so I went. Here's a really good tip- GO ON A FRIDAY! I went abouy 10:30 am and there was hardly a line. We got in the door and seated within 20 minutes. Parking was horrible and I had to walk for 2 minutes. I know because I timed it.. and no one walks in LA... but other than that the wait was not bad at all. Once inside I panicked because I realized I forgot a document. Once they called my number, they confirmed I would need forgotten document, and the teller, I forget her name- was so sweet. She asked me if I lived close I could go get it and come right back. I wouldn't have to wait! WHAT? I expected this to be like the DMV - where they would judge me, and make me cry. None of that here. I rushed home and grabbed said document and they saw me right away. The total time I spent only because I had to drive back to my house which was about 15 minutes or so away for a total of 45 wasted minutes due to my fault came to approximately 3.5 hours. Not bad! Bathroom was very clean to which is a plus, because I hate public restrooms, but since I am with child, I do not make the rules of this body. The baby does. It is a good idea to go early but if you don't, I wouldn't stress. I went late on a Friday and It was not bad at all. read more

Wow! Never noticed this location until I needed it. Thanks to Yelp, I was in and out within less than an hour! I needed to get a new social after the wedding and it's a nice clean (quiet) place with easy parking and again, I was in and out within an hour without an appointment. The most awesome part was, I walked-in on a Friday and got my new social by the following TUESDAY!!! Talk about fast and convenient service! They do tell you the standard 7-14 business day turn around but, I was surprised how fast their processing times are! read more

It's a government office. You're going to have to wait. That's just a fact of life. However, unlike many government offices, at least you really only wait in a line for awhile to get inside, and then you get to sit and wait. Basically, I arrived at 8:30 AM, about a half hour before they open, and there was already a line of people curving in the parking lot. I got one of the last non-accessible parking spots left in the somewhat small (but free) lot and began the wait in line. A little before 9, a security guard came out and called those who had appointments to the front of the line. There are only a couple things for which you can actually make appointments, so that really only drew out about 2-3 people from the line. Then he started letting everyone else in, depending on space available. Once inside, you check in at a kiosk regarding your reason for being there, and it prints out a ticket with your number. Then you sit. And you wait some more. But at least you're not standing in a line. All in all, I waited about 40 minutes in the line outside (taking into consideration that I arrived 30 minutes early along with a bunch of others) and then 50 minutes inside after check-in until my number was called. Then the process at the window (a name change) took about 5-7 minutes, and I was out of there. Again, this is going to be a waiting game. But what government office isn't. At least it was a somewhat better process than spending the entire hour and a half in a snaking line with no seats. Oh, and I appreciated that the check-in kiosk had you specify things like language, hard of hearing, poor vision, etc., so that you would be sent to someone who could specifically address your needs. read more

I got there at 8:30 am and waited till 9am and finally was called at 10:45am. It went well the only thing that I don't like is that I have to now miss another day of work to go to the DMV to follow up with my name change. Social Security office doesn't connect/ link your new information right away, you have to wait a day. read more

I will absolutely come back to this location for any Social Security related needs. The parking lot is on the small side, but it's free. I found free parking on the street, right in front of the lot. I didn't have an appointment to change my last name, so I worried about how long the whole thing would take. I got inside, took a number, sat down next to a window near the end with the T.V., and then before I knew it my number was called. I gave the woman (such a sweet lady) my Drivers License and my Marriage Certificate, within 5 minutes she handed everything back to me. I was in and out of there in under two hours (I was expecting it to take double that)! I've heard how much of a pain it can be to change your name after you get married, but this step was painless! I was told it should arrive in the next two weeks; it arrived sooner than I expected. I went in last Wednesday (5/4) and my new Social Security Card came on Monday (5/9)! Woo, new name!! read more

Visits have usually been pretty quick and the staff most helpful. However, someone calls you and leaves a message to call them back, they dont leave a number!!!!!!!!! Then you have to use the 800 number, which is a National board. We have spent two weeks and many hours just trying to return three calls made to us! No one answers the 800number! We finally drove over from Simi and were helped with 5 minutes. read more

I went there with my parents, they had an appointment at 9:25 am we arrived at 8:55am we checked in, we were told to sit and wait, we waited 30 min every other number was called before us, went to ask one of the security guards and he very rudely answered "go sit down they will call you,"! So, I did. We waiting another 20 minutes I got up and asked another security guard and he's just said" go ask someone in the windows, so I did I approached on of guys at the window and he also rudely replied "I don't know, I am busy, I just got done with Some one, when all I did was ask if he can help me as to why everyone was going first. This location was excellent. I went in for a name change at 9:06am with no appointment and was in and out within 30mins. You check in at a kiosk, get a number, then wait to be called. They have a good system going that separates everyone depending on what they are there for. The only down side was there wasn't enough parking in their lot but there is street parking available. read more
