I've called this office 2 times to work out a problem with my SS. I have been working with the SS office for 3 months about my application. Twice they said it was taken care of. I called today and the women said she could not find my application. I said they have had it now for two months. She interrupted me and told me I didn't hit send when I applied. I told her they have found it in the past and I did send it. She again said I didn't hit send. I tried to explain again, and she said I didn't hit send. She said, "If you want, I can hang up on you, and you can talk to another agent." I lost my temper and said let's do that. Absolutely no effort to help me or to understand my situation. read more

I called the Aurora office in Illinois to find out why there was no response to 3 applications for medicare part b for my husband. After providing the requested info I was told that they had no requests, and when I posted out that I had copies, then I was told that I had to prove I had supplied insurance for the past 23 years. The woman then said she would not have authorized my part b had she seen it. She then continued to say he could not apply now and I had to PROVE that he was on my insurance. By that time I had lost my temper. I had been on hold for 30 minutes and then was given a woman who treated me like a criminal. I did say 1 swear word and she hung up on me. read more

Went to the office for some help. I had not received my check because the letter I received said they had a wrong address. When I called the 800 number said it was actually my bank account. She said I could correct on line but going in would be quicker. Got there at 11:53 and left at 12:40. The gentleman that helped me had it taken care of in a few minutes. Said my check would be cut and sent in a few days. Seems to me that government agencies always get the bad reviews. This encounter was awesome read more

I guess naive me didn't expect it to be busy 10am on a Friday day, but it was. Super simple, walk in, check in, get a ticket, and wait. We waited 51 minutes for our turn, and it only took about 3 minutes to actually help us. The security guard on duty was nice and friendly, as well as the lady that helped us. I am writing today because of my interaction with Mr. Reebe on July 18, 2023. I called the Aurora Field Office on this day two times this particular day and the first call, Mr. Reebe hung up on me. I called back and got him again. He asked for my social security number, I gave it to him and he did NOT properly identify me and ask me what my question was. I asked him if he needed to ID me to proceed and he ignored me and attempted to answer my question without actually assisting me with my DIB claim. I'm very uncomfortable with him taking my SSN and not properly identifying me. Being that I am a former SSA employee, I expected that all SSA employees would be act responsibly when handling callers personal information. read more

I came here with my company intern ...upon arrival, the initial wait was 40 minutes according to the security officer (he correctly estimated the wait time)...the security officer isn't the friendliest guy in the world and seems unhappy..but i guess it makes sense if he has to deal with all the people that come in the door....there is usually going to be a wait....lots of time to spare and plenty of places to sit; however, not much to do there... so make sure you bring something to do whether it's a book or electronics.. I don't know if they have wi-fi though (most likely not).. The office is not too easy to spot when you're coming here for your first time..and the parking area is ok... It's just not a pleasant place to go...the atmosphere isn't too great....diversity you'll find...but clean you will not....ehh. read more

NEVER in my life did I think I would: 1) Be inspired to review a Social Security Administration office; and 2) Give a Social Security Administration office five stars. However, both are true and when I saw it listed on Yelp I just had to add my two cents. . . I have to be honest that bets were being taken by those that I know as to how long it would take me at the SSA Office. I had a simple change to be made, but there is a reputation that proceeds this government office so all these preconceived ideas were warranted. That reputation is now blown away! No sooner did I print my ticket out that assigned me the number did I hear over the loud speaker "Serving number x at window x." I didn't even get a chance to sit down. (I will say those who were sitting, and probably had been for some time, weren't happy to see how quickly I got taken care of). The lady whom helped me was nice, efficient and didn't have me give her any more documentation than she needed. I was in and out of the SSA office within no more than five minutes from start to finish. The facility itself was very nice - the nicest I've ever seen (and I've seen a few). It was told to me that it opened in November 2007 so that was part of the reason why. Regardless, for almost being a year old it was kept-up nicely. All in all, even though I know my experience was out of the norm from a time perspective, the SSA office located in Aurora is really nice and so are the people working there (and that makes a HUGE difference). If this is your locale SSA office and you need to go to one I highly recommend you use this one. There is no need to go out of your way. read more

I have only had to go to the Social Security office twice in my life. (1) Three years ago in California after I got married to change my name and (2) the other day in Illinois to replace my Social Security card that was lost/stolen. Both times the employees have been friendly, informative, expedient and kind. I have even witnessed them handle difficult situations with grace and understanding. I think the DMV offices across the country (who I have had to visit several times in several states) need to take some customer service lessons from the Social Security Office. read more

Please note that a year ago I went to the Elgin Office and got REAMED because we live in DeKalb County and the ray of sunshine that I was so UNLUCKY to meet with spent the first 20 minutes berating me because she said I should be going to Aurora, not Elgin. If I could give zero stars, I would. My daughter's husband died in March, 2015. I went with her to file a claim for survivors benefits for her son. We had everything we needed. We sat there for three hours waiting for a rep, and everything took about an hour to process. We were told that she was all set, and would begin receiving the death benefit within 30 days. 45 days later, she had to take another day off work to go in there and visit again to find out what happened. Take a number, two hours later she was told that they were waiting for her son's birth certificate (which we had already provided). She had to go and get it, and to avoid waiting two more hours, dropped it in the drop box. A week later she received it back with a note that benefits would begin within 30 days. Thirty days later, still no benefits. Another day off work (because they are only open from 9-4, M-F), to find out they had done nothing with the birth certificate. That was this week They have now processed the birth certificate and promise benefits within 30 days. I guess if you need a name change they may do okay, but if you need a benefit that your life depends on, they really don't care. Call your congressman. This is ridiculous. read more

I am a brain cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Was accosted today by a 5'9" (roughly) African American female security guard with short hair. She first yelled at me for carrying in a drink which I didn't see a sign telling me I could not have. I might have missed the sign. I was so shocked that she yelled at me that I lost the grip on my coffee and it spilled a bit on the floor at which point she screamed "Oh My God!" Which is offensive to several people to take the Lord's name in vain. (I am not one of these people who is easily offended, but given her position, she needs sensitivity training.) As a brain cancer patient, I am afraid to go back into this office, so I will probably be hiring a social security attorney to handle my case from here on out. read more

Office opened at 9:00am..so I arrived 20 minutes early and was 10th in line. The guard opened doors early, was very efficient and helpful in helping every single person register by machine to obtain a number. He managed the entire room by himself, & I have to say, as a manager of a large store, I could appreciate his performance. He directed people to sit in the a specific area so they could be taken care of in order...He explained how everything would work and also reminded everyone to listen for their number or name to be called..he also explaiined that some would be called sooner,depending on the situation, or if they had an appointment. Everything he announced was repeated twice and he made sure that people were sitting in the right places....I have to say, I was impressed with this man. The wait was short (about 10 minutes) and we were taken care of a very polite, efficient jamaican woman who apparently was a senior member of the staff...At times she would be interrupted by other employees who asked her questions, and I have to say, she, too was "to the point" multi-tasking...and appeared to know her job very well. I came in prepared with all my documentation to register for Medicare. All she asked to see was my driver's license...I did show her my folder with all other documents. (It pays to be organized)...She explained Medicare to me,, answered my questions and was kind and patient..and even smiled and wished me a happy birthday (which comes up in 3 monts)...I have to say, the employees of this particular location are top notch. I give Aurora Illinois office,(1325 N. Lake st.) in my opinion zero stars! They basically said The Appeal Council Decision and (Andrew Saul) which state in my letter of approval (Commissioner final Decision) holds no ground in Aurora, Illinois Jurisdiction. That there (Fully Favorable) decision on my disability case, Aurora Social Security Administration had more over say and power to over throw them. WHY?? Evening of November 1st. my mother got my letter of approval from the mail box (Appeal Council final decision) and final decision of the respectively Commissioner of New York. Which stated I was approved starting April 1st 2014 to the date of my approval. I will receive a letter regarding benefits, ssdi and (disability insurance) back pay in 60 days, If I don't hear contact my local office. SSA decide there after what I'm approve for. So 4 in a half months later just before shut down. I go to see the lawyer Mr. Weber who written out to ask for my back pay disability and stamped his card. He say I fired him as my lawyer, correction facts remain in truth you didn't show up to my 1st hearing. Back to the case, it's all so emotionally stressful. Note: Medically it's hard for me to take certain action (shut down)is one reason Note: after Jyot.... represented Nash disability in my case horribly by doing what no lawyer would do, if they want to win the case. The judge didn't question me about it wasn't mention as I recalled while, I was in the room ( took me 5 months to prove my so call lawyer wrong GOD Bless) No lawyer would take my case, instead of consulting with over the phone or help me. They took the time to type up a letter to say no. So yes I tried to get a lawyer sent copies to of them letters. All I heard on the opposite end of the phone was, CLICK CLICK. 10 years consistently trying to get medical help hoping someone in the beggining will admit me. None was qualified to know when to take certain action, or like most doctors ask repeatedly, what type of insurance do you have or what do you want me to do (really, seriously). Point is I had legal rights of concerns, My mother, 20yr. son and myself went to Aurora local office for information. Following/doing only what the letter said. Person who called the three of us, Mr. Hulk the TECH guy. We said hello as he, my mom and I seated to the front of him son middle, had my paperwork I stated I have not receive a letter for appt to go over my benefits. I stated what the letter said: my ssdi back pay I have yet to receive after 60 days of the letter of approval. Which such a nice humble meek (voicemail), he raise his voice aggressively and said You have to apply for SSI first. I replied back no I don't, I have the right to ask in regards of my approval. I ask to speak to the Supervisor (Ms. Delgado). She stated Ms. don't worry you will receive all your money. I reply I just want my disability and my back pay. Okay, was said between the both of us, my mother, son and I left. Few days later I receive a letter stating, I requested and authorized them to gather wages etc. for ssi. I called them repeatedly regarding my rights to the Appeal Council and Commissioner final decision. There response was (Epic) they didn't know my mom was listening in all my calls. Mr. Hulk no longer answered and delivered messages through other people. Lack of professionalism, protection of civil rights and to the Appeal Council and Commissioner, I find it outrageously disrespectful to us all in this case. Note: my 2 CHILDREN was on the case, I shouldn't need a lawyer to ask what I was approved for by people in a HIGHER POSITION. NOTE: YES I called the social security fraud hotline. To CONFIRM INFORMATION VERBALLY PROVIDED FROM YOUR OFFICE. RESPOND YES MA AM YOU RIGHT YES you correct. I want what Mr. Hulk and Supervisor Delgado Took From my CIVIL RIGHTS BY LAW AND FINAL DECISION OF THE COMMISSIONER OF SOCIAL SECURITY. TO HONOR THERE FINAL DECISION. WHO IS YOU Mr. HULK TO OVER RIDE THERE DECISION. IT SHOULD BE REVERSE AS THOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROM THE START. OH! ANY LAWYER THAT READS THIS NO WHY. MAKING MONEY OFF PEOPLE PAIN. TO SSA BY ALL MEAN YOU SHOWED YOUR TRUE COLOR. (DARK), I meant know harm I only wanted what was fair and was given rights to receive. If a lawyer would have took my case he would have done the same as I. Ask for what I was approved for. Retro ssdi and disability premium insurance. ( you take $144.00 out every month even though I'm not suppose to pay. It was pretty quick to get in. We had an appointment so that helped. The guard at the front was friendly and helpful. Frequently needed forms were upfront and the ticket board helped with expectations. Ms Kugler helped us. She was very knowledgeable and considerate. I have been trying to resolve a mistake for over a year now. I have called the phone number multiple times no call back. I visited the office to drop off items, I requested appointment with rep no call back no rep available when I came to office. The waiver of penalty requested has been handled by people who will not speak to me and the Social Security office audit only every three years. The agency never contacted me to express I was not following the guidelines of the program until they decided to cut benefits off. I worked hard to get back to work after long illness now I am being penalized for following the info provided by Social Security. Perhaps if someone would speak to me this would not take over a year to resolve. There were clear misunderstandings that led to this problem. Now I am treated like a criminal without the benefit of being heard. Icing on the cake was IRS seems to be garnishing my refund as a result of the actions or non actions of Social Security. I am a tax payer who has reported all at every turn based on the guidance of the Social Security employees. Now some bureaucrat has decided I was overpaid when I lived below poverty level and made it work while healing my body from Cancer. What incentive do people have to be honorable if we are treated like criminals. I did not file Bankruptcy but have worked hard to pay my obligations. This may end up forcing me into a bankruptcy in order to survive. All preventable if someone would return a phone call and hear the history first hand. read more
