The City of Sunrise was founded in 1961 as Sunrise Golf Village by developer Norman Johnson who was…read morefrom Iowa. He brought prospective buyers to this city on the western edge of Broward County by building model homes. Johnson had originally considering using Sunset in the name but reconsidered for the more optimistic Sunrise which he planned to market to retirees. The new community became famous for its upside down house created by Johnson and F. E. Dykstra. The home was completely furnished, and the carport had an upside-down car. There were many news features about the house and a feature in Life magazine. Thousands were drawn to the attraction and many stayed to make their home in the new city. By 1967 the city had a population of 4,300 and was 1.75 square miles. The city eventually expanded westward out to the edge of the Everglades for a total of 18 square miles and changed its name to Sunrise in 1971. Today the city has a population of approximately 100,000 people. The Amerant Bank Arena previously known as the National Car Rental Center, Office Depot Center, BankAtlantic Center, BB&T Center, and FLA Live Arena opened in 1998. The arena is the home of the Florida Panthers and hosts concerts and other major events. In 1990 the first phase of Sawgrass Mills Mall opened. The mall now offers a large and diverse selection of stores and restaurants. In 2007 Ikea opened which enabled everyone to get their Swedish meatball fix and be able to purchase cheap put together furniture. While most people visit Sunrise for the arena and mall, there is much more to Sunrise if you dig a little deeper. For one thing the city has some amazing parks which include Welleby Park, Oscar Wind Park, Sawgrass Sanctuary, and Oak Hammock Park. The city's commitment to maintaining well-kept parks enhances the overall quality of life for residents. Cultural events can be enjoyed at the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre and Art Gallery. The city has a number of restaurants especially by the mall. \Whether you are craving traditional Floridian cuisine or international restaurants that offer a taste of global flavors, there's something to satisfy every palate. As the city grew, the residential areas were able to maintain a suburban charm, providing a pleasant contrast to the bustling commercial areas. The neighborhoods are well-planned, with clean streets and a sense of community that makes it an ideal place for families. Unless you are FIRST in line in the morning, you will wait in line, STANDING and outside no less, no shade nor shelter, so that you can eventually get into an interior room to finally get a number and wait some more. Then they call your number (another hour) so that they can move you across the hallway into another, larger room, wherein you turn in your old number and get a new number. Yeah. Right. This is not a joke nor exaggeration. This new room has more chairs in it, and a television where I got to enjoy Family Feud whilst I burned another hour WAITING. No lie: There was some poor soul in a back brace waiting in line ahead of me. The entire time. This place is the absolute model of government inefficiency. Absurd. Here's an idea: add expedited service for a fee and you can hire another 50 apathetic mouth-breathers to not care. Maybe one can hold an umbrella or crack a smile, or, you know, just care. USPS has a bad reputation in general for postal officer frowns and lost mail but today it was a…read morepleasant encounter with Symon at the package intake counter. My wife explained the issue with a recent missing package without a tracking receipt left. A smile with answers without rolling his eyes. We waited in the parking lot for 25 minutes then Symon called our phone and said the package is now here. Wifey recovered the package inside and disaster averted. YAY, Symon thank you.

The USPS tracking service said that a an attempt today at 246pm was made at my residence and a…read morenotice was left with further information with three options. 1. No package was left 2. No notification alert was made through USPS that the package was out for delivery 3. No mail carrier did not leave a notice 4. Info advised no persons were available at residence to leave package (home all day and agent in lobby - confirmed). Drove to post office and thankfully it was dead and spoke with Symon who listened and told me he would call my phone when the USPS driver returns. I sat in the parking lot until 6pm when he called and held my package. I got it and was happy. Not really sure why a paper notice was not left if the package was returned. Symon went above and beyond and was appreciated and he made up for the drivers mishap.

As a customer, you won't be able to really see all of the inside but there is a spacious waiting area in the lobby if you need police records. The area is sunny and clean as well as the bathrooms. There are 2 vending machines available to use as well. If you need to get a copy of your ambulance report from Fire Administration the front security will escort you too the 4th floor. Security is always pleasant and friendly.

Parking was spacious and staff were friendly. The library was large and organized. There are many events, just check out the website for details. There are study rooms, youth service program room, and meeting room. There are large collections of foreign print materials, CDs, and film. There plenty of reading materials; I love their paperless books via the Libby app. We specifically went there for the children's section which is on the smaller side. There was a small Lego set and some chairs. They offer many baby and toddler programs. Overall, a great library with many resources for people from all walks of life.

I had no appt and arrived at 730am and I was warned that after 9am if you are not inside there are no guarantees. I appreciated the communication but I stuck it out and I was seen around 1030am. My fault for not having an appt but still not too bad. Once I was inside it was very organized and the service was great. Donnmarie was a sweetheart and very helpful. Not the worst of a day. I will say this was for a renewal and all situations are different but everyone outside with no appointments went through the same wait till they got in.

About 65 people attended the event tonight and there was sufficient parking, although, if anymore people would have attended I'm not sure there would have been more spots. The Village Civic Center is located in the City of Sunrise's police substation. I'd recommend holding an evening event for more parking spot options. The fellow who sets up the room is always friendly and helpful. I'm docking a star due to the facility not notifying us that it didn't have a microphone. It has in the years past but apparently it went missing. If we had known prior, we would have improvised and brought our own mics. When it's an important part of a business program, it hinders the guests' experience. It was preventable for our program had we known and renters of the facility should be informed.

The people that work here are always friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to the new books, old books and where to find virtually any of the books on the racks! This library is always so clean and they always have a nice amount of copies of new releases so I don't need to be put on a waitlist to check the book out. I love that the library is two floors and the second floor is always so nice and quiet. The bathrooms here on both floors are always very clean as well and the tables are nicely spaced out in the library so I don't feel like I am ever hovering over other patrons while I am here! They have a friends of the library where you can buy second hand books and the deals they have on them are wonderful. I usually end up walking out with a stack of books way too high, for less than ten dollars. The best part is the money goes directly towards the library and helping run events that are open to the general public!
