This review is specifically for the stylist Teresa Valdez not the salon as a whole. Buckle up, it's…read moreworth the read. My first appointment with Teresa was perfect, it was exactly the color I wanted and I was incredibly happy. At my second appointment I explicitly stated "I want to do what we did last time" yet she proceeded to make my hair significantly darker. I immediately brought up how much darker it was than the previous appt and she assured me it was only a dark gloss and would wash out and lighten up soon. I trusted her. And "left happy" because she assured me it was "just a gloss". I didn't speak up because I trusted her. At my third appointment everything went south. Before we started I brought up again that my hair was made too dark the previous appt and clearly communicated that I did not want my hair to be dark. Teresa proceeded to dye my hair pitch black. I immediately brought it to her attention at the end of my appt and let her know I was NOT happy with how dark my hair was. This time, Teresa's story completely changed, she told me she had actually used permanent dye at my second appointment not a gloss. After a lot of back and forth and attempted gaslighting she eventually admitted that she hadn't taken proper notes and couldn't remember exactly what she had done to my hair at my previous appointments. Awesome. Not only was this extremely unprofessional and disorganized on her part but throughout the process I felt completely gaslit. She put words in my mouth that I never said. She made decisions about my hair that I never consented to. She did what she wanted with my hair instead of communicating with me and getting my approval first. Her lack of accountability made an already bad situation feel even worse. She knew she had made a mistake, admitted it but still tried to gaslight me to agree with her rather than take accountability. To top it all off despite her completely admitting fault, she only offered me a partial refund. After her countless mistakes and the way the entire situation was handled, the partial refund felt like a slap in the face. I wish I would have never sat in her chair. It's unfortunate that this experience reflects on the salon because I'm sure there are much more professional stylists there to choose from. If you do decide to book with Teresa, I would STRONGLY recommend being VERY direct about what you want and making sure you explicitly consent to any changes before she proceeds. -5/10.

This review is being written by my wife, Robin who is a grateful customer of Kimberly at Dolce Vita…read moreSalon! I have lived in Sonoma County for more than 20 years, and have always been self-conscious due to thinning hair. I have been to several stylists over the years who never mentioned any potential treatments for the thin hair. I made an appointment at Dolce Vita Salon for a color correction and met Kimberly. We talked about my thinning hair, and what my dream hair would look like. She was honest with me about the condition of my hair and what my options were. Kimberly recommended that we first evaluate and treat the scalp, and then suggested the idea of using a "topper" on my head, real hair styled in the way that I want, that would give the appearance of full and healthy hair while my own scalp heals. This seemed like such a reasonable idea, and basic, that I was surprised that nobody had ever mentioned this at other salons. Kimberly showed me examples of toppers to get me comfortable with the idea. She also made me feel like she was a friend who was collaborating with me more than someone who was just hired to work on my hair. We went ahead and ordered the topper. While we waited for it to arrive, Kimberly was in touch the entire time, sending e-mails with photos of hair toppers that would be realistic for my head. At her salon on October 7, it was time for the fitting. This being real hair, Kimberly had first shampooed and styled the topper, and then cut and curled it to fit my face. She showed me how to attach the topper to my head with clips that work with my bio hair, and then she let me try doing it myself. (I am still practicing in front of the mirror and getting more confident). I love the way the topper looks and fits, as does my husband, Alex. I would highly recommend Kimberly and Dolce Vita Salon for any hair and beauty concerns that you have.

I spent over $350 on a balayage here recently with Kait and unfortunately had a really…read moredisappointing experience. I went in wanting to replicate the sun-kissed strawberry blonde with copper undertones that I got here last year. The consultation felt super rushed, but she acted like she totally remembered and had it handled, so I trusted her and didn't think I needed to pull out a reference photo. When she was done, she gave me a sleek blowout that looked great in the salon chair and completely hid the actual color placement. Once I washed it at home and saw it air-dried in normal indoor lighting, it was a totally different story. The color is way darker and redder than my natural base shade, and there's a heavy, solid block of copper right at the top & one side of my head with no blending. Four days later, I messaged her with an inspiration picture to politely figure out a fix. Her response was honestly pretty rude and defensive. She told me she had "0 recollection" of my hair from last year, and instead of offering to brighten it back up to what I actually paid for, she basically said it would cost me another full fee for a brand-new partial color. She did offer a quick root smudge at the sink, but putting a dark gloss over an already muddy, dark base would have just made it look worse. When I reached out to the salon owner to ask for a partial refund so I could go get this fixed somewhere else, she completely washed her hands of it. She said the stylists are just independent contractors and she's basically just their landlord, so the salon takes zero responsibility for their work or client payments. If you are going to charge premium luxury prices, you should provide a proper consultation and some basic professional accountability when a mistake like this happens. I am now stuck with a botched hair color. I definitely won't be back.
