I had planned a birthday bash at my house on a Friday and I initially had planned on holding it indoors. However, I went a little overboard on the invites and soon realized i wasn't going to be able to fit everyone I had invited inside. I have an outdoor space by my garage that has gone mostly unused since I'm moved into my house due to lack of lighting. I decided last minute to try and get something installed and sent out a request for bids via Yelp on Wednesday night. Steve was the first to respond and was able to do a phone consultation via Facetime on Thursday morning and gave me an estimate of $550 over the phone for materials and labor for getting the lights strung up. Steve sent me a link to the type of string lights I should buy at Costco and I went and bought the lights and waited at home for Steve's technician, Roberto, to arrive. He also gave me some advice on a Wifi smart plug to install so I could control the light with my smart phone. Roberto arrived a little after 5pm on Thursday and I explained what I wanted to have done. I was worried because of the late start, but he got to work right away and I was surprised how much work it ended up being. There was no way I could have done this myself. He was still at it at 9pm so I went outside and helped out for the last bit hanging the lights so I could get this poor man home. All in all, I ended up paying $850 for 250ft of string lights installed (5 x 50ft strings). It ended up being more than the initial estimate, but I felt the price was fair given it was as last minute install and Roberto stayed until 10pm to make sure the job was completed in time for my party. Found Steve at SoCal Electrical through Yelp. He quoted an excellent flat rate price for the electrical work I needed. He then drove from Bellflower to LA to do the work. But when he arrived he immediately determined the electrical wiring had to be upgraded before it was safe to do the electrical work I needed. I appreciated his knowledge! And he could do the upgrade. But it would be a big job and he hadn't allocated the time to be in LA to do that. So we agreed that I should look on Yelp for a local electrician who could do the rewire. Steve even wrote out for me in electrician tech jargon, what type of wiring upgrade was needed, so that I could explain it to the local electricians on Yelp so they could more easily bid it. I was grateful that Steve did that for me. Furthermore Steve did not charge me for driving out to LA, and then back again, just to help me find someone else to do the electrical work. I suspect most LA electricians would charge more than Steve would. But I needed to get the job done quickly. So I ended up hiring an electrician on Yelp to do the work that I needed done pronto. At probably a higher cost than Steve would have charged. Bottom line is Steve's prices excellent, and his helpfulness and integrity set him apart from most.
