The first few stalls on the west side of the building in front are reserved for handicapped. Big enough I can back in a crew cab pick-up truck. No curb! All flat from the parking lot to the inside of the store. For anyone in a wheelchair or even using a walker, this is a huge benefit. Someone has been very thoughtful with planning. Once inside the store I sought out the Manager. I wanted to compliment him. Instead I found a fellow in a suit from Home Office who was bagging groceries. He told me this was a new design and that he appreciated my feedback. The fact a Home Office Suit was packing groceries is a good thing. Home Office is paying attention and involved with the business. Today was part of a Grand Opening. I did later get to speak with the Store Manager who told me he has some slight changes he wants to make with regard to parking. I commented, "It's nice to see that the store manager has the ability to make those kinds of changes. Many store managers do not." The manager's response was, "Absolutely. It's my store." This is definitely not the answer you would get from some of the other chains. Today the store was well stocked and very well staffed. It was busy and lines were moving quickly. There may be slightly lower price options elsewhere but those places charge for bags and do not have quite the same attention to customer service.

Safeway - Car Park in front of Safeway

It has been over one year since my wife and I last visited the Safeway in Stony Plain. We had…read moremoved my business to Spruce Grove due to problems mentioned in a previous review. Recently I had heard about some management changes so I thought I'd give them another try. My visit today has pretty much insured I will NEVER VISIT AGAIN. The person managing the self check-out registers was someone I had previously complained about to store management. While running items over the scanner I paused to find the code for cheese bagels. As I was pondering which button to press, the lady managing the self check-outs came up and started punching buttons. When I asked her to please not do that she became belligerent and explained that the registers were HER PROPERTY. Having formerly been an instructor for computer classes, I find it extremely annoying (not to mention incredibly rude) when someone just takes over the computer I am using without asking permission to do so. Being rude with a customer is simply unacceptable. I mentioned my concerns to the lady at the Customer Service desk who respnoded with a blank stare. Previously I have written to both Safeway and store management and have not received a reply. E-mails to Safeway always get a standard, "we're sorry..." bs reply. Safeway Spruce Grove, on the other hand, has been wonderful.

I asked their rep at the floral counter if she could put three small bouquets in a vase for me as I couldn't go home and cut them and pour the water myself. She advised me that the prices of the flowers would be double if she did that, but the vase would be regular price. That is highway robbery. I expected to maybe pay a $5 surcharge for labour to trim the flowers and fill the vase with water. MAYBE. But for $25 worth of flowers to suddenly cost me $50 plus the vase?! Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. I prefer to do my shopping elsewhere now.
