We were seated promptly; however, our waitress walked past our table at least four times without acknowledging us. We were just about ready to walk out when she finally stopped and said she would be with us shortly. Thankfully, the service after that was fantastic. She was very kind and genuine and checked on us regularly. We initially had trouble finding the famous mozzarella sticks on the menu. When we asked our waitress about them, she pointed them out on the seasonal menu although even she had a hard time finding them. Apparently, they had just received new menus, so at least we weren't the only ones who needed a map to find them. She let us know that the mozzarella sticks had recently changed. They aren't as large as they used to be, are now drizzled with hot honey, and come with a side of spicy marinara. They definitely had a kick, but they were delicious. Obviously, I can't compare them to the original version, but they absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the triple-pepperoni thin-crust pizza, which unfortunately fell flat. The edges were so badly burned that they were black, and the pizza was extremely greasy and didn't have much flavor. Somehow it managed to be both burned and underwhelming an impressive combination, just not in a good way. My dining partner ordered the lunch-special fettuccine Alfredo along with the French onion soup. He said the fettuccine Alfredo was fantastic and was very pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Overall, I would absolutely come back for the mozzarella sticks and to try some of the other menu items. Would I order the pizza again? Not a chance. That relationship ended before the check arrived.

I've had about 5 burger at J Macs over the years and none have impressed me. I just found out the Renton location closed and I also believe they had a Lynnwood location which also is gone, leaving this lone establishment. We changed it up and decided to try Happy Hour. This is the best Happy Hour menu I have seen in recent memory. Solid selection and reasonable prices. I went with the Potato Skins and I have to tell you, they were the largest skins I've ever seen making it a killer deal. Unfortunately, the flavor just wasn't there. Not enough bacon and I would have rather had ranch instead of sour cream. I think Black Angus has the best Potato Skins around now that Claim Jumpers is gone and unless they changed the menu, they are available for Happy Hour there. Again, the skins here did not impress, but the price and portion blew me away, so these guys are going to get 4 stars from me. Jimmy's and Billy's may have the same owner, but the recipes differ, I think Billy is more flavorful and consistent, but you get more meat selections at Jimmy's. Good news is they are only a couple miles apart. So choose wisely and enjoy either way.

The owner, Adam, was super kind and attentive. He brought us complimentary house made pickles while we waited for our food. They were juicy & crisp. The Special was a cabbage rolls, which I said I didn't really like. But he brought us one to try and OMG! What the heck?!?! The textures, the flavors, I could not believe how much I liked them and will be making the drive for those. We got the shawarma and the potato perogi. Our toddler especially loved the perogi. It's comfort food that does not make you feel heavy/bloated. The flavors were spot on. I have not had any food like this in the south Puget Sound and am so excited it's here. Seeing one with great reviews, my wife & I decided to try it. And we failed. Not the food failed, we just couldn't find it. We knew it was in the stripmall that had the equally difficult to find (and excellent) "Underground Kitchen". The address was that of the Palace Spa, a giant Korean spa. Later with knowledge Pal Man was in the Palace Spa building we tried again. And failed (again). 3rd try we discovered we needed to go up the large staircase on the right-outside wall of the building. If this sounds like climbing a fire escape you've got the picture. At the top was a conference room for the spa. However, the proprietor of Pal Man came out of a side door and said "Go around the corner to get it. It's a little hassle but it's worth it." Way too much intro? Yes, but you need to know how to find Pal Man. And "it's worth it": The food: 1) Best Borscht I've ever had. Amazing broth with lots of shredded beets, carrots, potatoes and chunks of pot roast. Seasoned with parsley, dill, garlic. Came with a side of fresh bread and slices of ham. 2) Chicken Shawarma: That's their label for it - I believe technically it's a Dürüm Döner. Like Germany, Poland and Ukraine have adopted the Döner as the street food of choice. Roasted meats with cabbage, carrots, pickles (it works, really) nicely dressed and rolled and grilled together in a Pita. 3) Georgian Khinkali. From the menu description "Dumplings with juicy beef & pork filling. Rich broth inside". My wife loved these, I asked for the details of the filling but it's a family secret - it's a mint/parsley mixture in the filling (I think). A few other notes on the establishment. This is a small family place and it's somewhere between a Spa restaurant and the proprietor and his wife's kitchen table. We felt at home - make sure to ask for the hot tea with honey while they prep the food. It's freshly made so a 20+ minute wait on some items. Jack's serve brisket "Deckle-off" trimmed too deeply removing the natural "fat cap" that BBQ fans love. I know it's Seattle and not Austin, Texas - but I'm looking for the promised Texas vibe and not BBQ with all the flavorful fat cut off - at least let us request Texas-style for us native Texans.
