Oh... where do I even begin?!? It's only been a few days, and we are still relishing from all the fun festivities this past weekend. Megan Steele was our wedding planner, and she was of the best out there. Truly. I found SoEventful through theknot.com when I was starting to plan, reached out to have an intro call and immediately connected with Megan. It wasn't even necessary to check on other wedding planning companies or interview other planners cuz I was so sure she'd do a great job. Oh and SoEventful's motto is for you to attend your own event as a guest. Boy, did Megan deliver on that one completely! I'm sure all of the other wedding planners at SoEventful are just as amazing, but... if we were to ever have an event in the future up in Sonoma County, I will be calling on Megan again. Why? Well, she is super professional in a way I can't describe. She is such a good fit for this type of work since it's intense (deadlines to be met, getting vendors on board etc) and yet she stays calm throughout. It was just what I needed along the entire way since her calmness only affects others in a good way. And now, I have only memorable thoughts of the entire planning process and the wedding itself of course. If you're looking for someone to keep you sane and get things done -- I cannot speak more highly of Samantha Paull! Here's a mini rant that doesn't even cover all of the reasons we loved working with Samantha: Last June we were putting together a 300+ Indian wedding and decided to go with a venue that was like a blank slate. It was a barn and vineyard combination and we chose to bring our own catering, stock our own bar and figure out lighting and decoration on our own. On top of that we wanted to make sure we had a fusion ceremony that was Indian as well as "American" so we wrote our own ceremony. Samantha was unbelievably helpful. I'm a designer, so I had a lot of elaborate visions -- but I also had no experience in event planning. Samantha was able to keep up with all of my racing thoughts while still keeping me grounded relatively on budget. She was able to recommend vendors that best suited what we needed. We even had to coordinate shuttles from the parking lot to the venue and she was able to help us find the best rate as well as keep things smooth on the day of the wedding. Though we hired her to be our 'day of planner' -- Samantha was much more than that. I honestly don't think we could have had such an amazing day without her. We felt so at ease and prepared before the wedding that when the day actually came around we were able to completely detach from logistics and enjoy the day. She was able to make sure all of the pieces of the Indian ceremony ran smoothly and that the mandap structure was beautiful and ready to go. She gracefully handled logistics between the rentals, lighting, draping, caterer, live music and most importantly family. Everyone was so relaxed and we all were able to just ENJOY. The day of all the tiny details of things I had DIY made were magically in place without needing me at all-- from hanging lights, to programs, to balloon garlands to even cupcake stands I had made. On top of that, there were so many wonderful personal touches she just did-- like she had our favorite cocktail and some appetizers brought to us while we were changing between the ceremony and reception. And during the reception she made sure we had time to eat and enjoy some time to ourselves... and she stayed until late in the night to make sure everyone was safely on shuttles. Our wedding was delayed due to Covid so we worked with two planners, Sam Carl and eventually Taylor Pacurar, and they were both excellent. When we transitioned to Taylor, she did a great job getting to know us and taking over management of our vendors; it was a very smooth process. So Eventful is very professional and knowledgeable about the vendors, venues, and any regulations in the Napa area where we got married. Samantha Paull at So Eventful was the planner for a recent nonprofit fundraising event with several hundred guests. She hired my company, CMAV, to do the audio-visual elements of the show. I've been in business for 10 years, so I've met more than my fair share of planners, those of all experience and skill levels. Samantha really knows what she's doing! First, the event was held at a non-traditional location, so the venue wasn't as equipped for big events as other spaces specifically geared for large events. Still, everything went off without a hitch. She orchestrated many details to make it a special experience for the guests -- from festive lighting to a charismatic auctioneer to a power-packed program that excited the crowd and ultimately resulted in their raising a ton of money. It's just great to see a wonderfully successful event, and I know just how much work goes into making that happen on the back-end. During the scoping process, Samantha was clear about what she wanted. Once the event was over, she followed up with me the very first business day for a final invoice and was kind to compliment our work. Some planners lag because they're not as confident on billing. I went to college with Marissa who created So Eventful so it was a no brainer that I would use her company for my wedding in wine country. She paired me with Briana Gonzalez which was a great fit as she has a laid back personality just like me. But she was not laid back in her planning in any way. She saw my vision and created it to a T. Everything was perfect and went off without a hitch on my wedding day. Even all the vendors she suggested were great! I'm sad it's all over and I won't be able to work with her anymore. But my Dad loved working with her so much too he might use her again for helping plan my Nuna's 90th birthday next year! So first off, we were recommended to So eventful by our AMAZING caterers A La Heart Catering, but I was extremely upset with the service we received on our wedding day. I want to start off by saying that our event coordinator is a great person and i really enjoyed her as a person, but unfortunately, I was rather displeased with the service we received the day of. She was great via phone and initial conversations but not the day of. We only hired her for the day of, however our contract includes pre calls, along with her reaching out and getting aligned with all the vendors(we only had 3 other vendors). I went to the Barlow in the early morning at about 10 and started getting things together and started telling the groomsmen and my family how they could help. Kristen came around 11:30 and I let her know what needed to be done. She said she had it all handled, so I left to get ready. I checked in with my family on the status and to ensure they weren't doing everything, yet as the day and night progressed I realized that the majority of work had been done by my family/me/à la heart/jessica(venue coordinator of The Barlow- and another AMAZING venue)/etc. If her main role was to delegate, then she did a great job at that but I think it was rather unprofessional for her to over rely on my family/guests of the wedding. As I said, my family helped a LOT. I was told that she told them to: fold napkins, set up tables, etc. Keep in mind, I had them help me when I got there in the am(before kristen's arrival), they had: made the flower arrangements and set up the tree/ceremony back drop area, as I didn't want Kristen to feel overwhelmed. I was to stress once again that Kristen is a great person with an amazing personality however, we were very disappointed with the service she provided. She over delegated and underperformed. She also missed a lot of the items that I wanted and missed multiple marks such as: 1. Telling a bridesmaid to run and get me(when she was completely dressed and in heels) 2. Told the same bridesmaid to get the bouquet(once again she was completely dressed and in heels while Kristen was in flats/boots) 3. Turned off the froyo machine- not letting anyone know about the lock, making our guests think there was no more frozen yogurt- this was exceptionally expensive and because of this, it was severely underutilized 4. She was not checking on items around the area- I had to tell people to refill the spoons and desserts, and I WAS THE BRIDE and suppose to be enjoying the wedding 5. She didn't place programs around the venue 6. The seating signs were not hung up as discussed and she laid them on the floor where nobody could see them, so the seating arrangements were completely disregarded and guests were confused 7. The signs were not placed accordingly, along with the favors and other items- i spent a lot of time and money on these and she left them in the back kitchen- I.E.: two dessert signs, telling guests what they were going to have.... they were nowhere to be seen and our guests had no clue what the desserts were 8. Additionally, there was poor communication between her and our photographer and DJ. She made it seem like she would be the point of contact with all vendors and this wasn't the case. The time line that she proposed and said she would follow was SO off 9. I also spoke with Mariana at a la heart and she mentioned that her staff said that she delegated a lot more to them than should have 10. There are so many more things that I could mention, but I think this is long enough:) I am NOT a bridezilla and super low maintenance, and hence why I wanted to help her as much before the wedding as possible, but I want to warn other brides, as I don't want this to happen to you as well. I will say that she did a good job with break down and getting all of our things set outside post wedding. I know we were her last wedding of the season, so maybe she was just tired, but I was still upset. As a couple with demanding jobs, we knew we needed help planning our wedding so we could have someone really handle the back and forth coordination, make sure we were selecting the right vendors, and someone who matched our personality and style. We didn't have any trouble getting started - but wrangling the details and making sure we made the right decisions was where I needed the most help. Kristen was a great person to have around for this. She offers so much to a couple with updates, constant check ins, checklists and vendor management. A key part of this is great relationships up near our wedding (Healdsburg) and that goes a long way as well. As we got closer to the date, several adjustments had to be made for rain and Kristen jumped right in with recommendations, made connections and helped us make sure everything was perfect. In addition, she created a full day-of itinerary for both of us, handled all of the vendors, coordinated with the venue, gave suggestions and the day off executed flawlessly despite rain and power outages! She's just that good. :) I am hard to please given I have such high standards so I was constantly pushing. However, day off, she showed me what she truly could do. Everything looked amazing, went great and despite many other venues close by having to cancel their events due to the power outage, she and my venue were prepared. In fact, our venue owners said "I don't think many other people could of done this other than Kristen" given the complexity of the band/food, guest count, rain and outages happening. Also, she comes with an amazing sense of humor and help me make this fun. It truly was a magical day - and we were able to focus on the experience of it instead of worrying about anything. Monica S. was our wedding planner for an intimate wedding at Farmstead in St. Helena. She took the time to really understand the mood and experience we wanted for our wedding. I wanted decor that would be romantic and classic while having touches that were uniquely "us." This is where Monica really has a gift. She focused on all the little details that made our wedding unique and special. We were planning our wedding from the other side of the country and it was a blessing to have Monica in CA shopping at antique fairs to find just the right elements to make our event perfect for us. In addition to really bringing together the look and feel of the wedding, Monica was tremendous at problem-solving at the last minute when the forecast changed to rain. A tent was way out of our budget and so Monica redesigned our wedding in less than 24 hours to be inside the event room. I still really wanted to have the ceremony outside and so an hour before we were supposed to start, when the skies had mostly cleared, she called to tell me that she would make it happen. The outdoor ceremony was just what we hoped for. I was a little worried about what we would find when we moved inside for the reception but to say the result was beautiful would be a dramatic understatement. She decorated the room so that it was romantic, intimate, and most importantly, us. When we walked in it felt like the wedding we were meant to have. Monica also offered special support and consideration for helping me find ways to feel like I was including my deceased parents in our wedding. I wanted a way to naturally include and honor them. She set up a special place for a photo of them. And when she came to bring me out for the ceremony she talked me through my feelings of loss so that I could enter my ceremony optimistic and focused on my future with my partner. What a gift. When our son and fiancee asked if they might have their wedding at our home, my husband and I were thrilled. Having organized a few large gatherings I thought " no problem". Well, someone whispered in my ear "wedding planner." I looked into it and found "So Eventful" in Healdsburg and we met Briana. What can I say? Briana planned the wedding perfectly. She was always accessible and we came to depend on her. Philip and Jackie were so very pleased with all that she did for them, and us. Her tireless attention to the many details was impressive and so very much appreciated. - Always anticipating the next step and making sure nothing was overlooked, she worked with the florist, caterers, furniture rentals, Fancy Flush, and other vendors so they slipped in seamlessly the day before and the day of the wedding. She organized the shuttles from the hotels, and the shuttles from the drop off point at the bottom of the hill to the house. Briana was there for the rehearsal telling us what to do and what not to do. On the wedding day she was unflappable as we watched the overcast sky. The sun came out as the wedding party prepared to walk from the house to the ceremony site. (Probably not Briana's doing) She made sure that the 135 guests moved from the ceremony site to the terrace for appetisers and then to the petanque court for dinner, without a hitch. She made sure nobody missed a cue. Then finally back to the terrace for cake, dessert and dancing. There was nothing she did not know about planning a wedding. Our experience with Pilar Mustafa from So Eventful was nothing short of exceptional. Her contributions were instrumental in creating a stress-free environment the day-of, and I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone else with an interest in using a wedding planner for their special day. At one point our Officiant took us aside and commended us on the quality of her work. This said a lot considering he's been involved in the wedding business for over 25+ years. Another attribute of Pilar that I appreciated most was her ability to effectively manage situations while absorbing our collective input. Marisa was our wedding planner for our winery wedding in September and I cannot thank her enough for how amazing she was! We hired her for month of coordination as I liked doing my own research and communication with vendors, but we used her help along the way as we were picking vendors. She was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with over emails and was helpful throughout the whole year we were planning. She knows, and has a great reputation, with lots of local vendor. She helped step in on communication when I needed some help. The last couple of weeks leading up to the wedding day (when I was very stressed!) she took over vendor communication and made sure everyone knew where to be and when. She also proactively did a walk through with our caterer at the event space which made me feel more relaxed. Most importantly, on the day of she was absolutely amazing. Our wedding was beautiful and perfect! I was really able to just sit back and enjoy my own wedding because I knew Marisa was handling everything. We had a last minute issue with our candle vases not being delivered, but Marisa was still able to make our tables look perfect. There was an issue with the buses and some of our guests got left behind at the hotel, but even though the wedding started a bit late she was able to fix up the schedule so that we didn't miss any time dancing (what I was most concerned about!) All I can say is HIRE MARISA! Whether you are bride that wants to handle/thinks you can handle everything for your wedding or you are a bride that wants to hire someone to plan the whole wedding, either way you should hire her. I think I made lots of good choices for our wedding, but she was one of the best choices and definitely the best value out of all the vendors we hired.
