The first toast was peanut butter and strawberry jelly topped with coconut flakes. The second was almond butter and banana with cocoa nibs, honey, and cinnamon. The third was Nutella and hazelnuts topped with strawberries and coconut flakes. They were all delicious, but my favorite was definitely the Nutella and hazelnut toast. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the variety made it fun to share and try different combinations. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance is a cute cafe vibe. You place order at the counter and someone brings your order to your table. Smitten is definitely a must-visit spot when downtown for breakfast.

The food is heavily missing flavor,the hummus is disgusting. I can't believe they call that thing hummus, it's an insult to actual dish.. it's almost like it was trying to imitate the real dish, but failed terribly in even attempting to. Their pizza tasted like play-doh and looked very pale. Smitten is at least consistent with one thing, which is their staple: no flavor. During my visit, Hector explained that he envisions Uncharted Adventures as a gathering place for the community. The business frequently hosts weekend vendor markets and local running clubs. Hector also shared he was creating a dedicated Memorial Day wall honoring local veterans, first responders, and teachers, while also working on an outdoor eating area. It's always great to see a Hector and Chris, and the new Adventures they take on. This is one of the few coffee shops in Bako worth checking out, whether you're stopping in for a coffee, a bite to eat, or a community events theyre hosting give em a visit an introduce yourself. I haven't had such a soft cookie given to me at an establishment in a long while. It was a great surprise. The latte was well balanced. Wasn't too sweet and I could taste everything they said was in it. Liked it quite a bit. Fiancé liked his cold brew as well, he was glad he got a large. Service was great! We'll talk about it later anyway Stacks is it. The Grub : We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles, which at about $21 is the most expensive item on the menu. That said, it comes with your choice of bacon or sausage and eggs, so considering Bakersfield prices, I actually think it's a pretty good value. The chicken and waffles themselves were very good. My only complaint was that I wish they had gone a little lighter on the hot honey. There was so much poured over the waffle that it became slightly soggy before I really had a chance to taste how crispy the waffle was supposed to be. Even though it was mostly soggy, it was still very tasty. The chicken was probably about two strips cut into thirds, which made it look like there was more chicken than there actually was. It definitely wasn't a huge portion of chicken, but it was enough to fill me up. We also ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, which my friend -- whose brunch I bought that day -- described in his own words as "not very good, but good enough to eat." He said he's had much better chicken fried steak at several other places. The Service ‍ The service was actually good overall. There was just a little confusion when we were first seated. Our waitress originally thought the table we were placed at wasn't her section. There was some miscommunication between her and another employee, and she thought she was seating us at his table when, in reality, it was hers. When we first got to the table, there was still syrup on it -- and unfortunately, that syrup ended up on my shirt. No problem... I do have a washing machine , but I was definitely a little irritated that my fresh 9:30 AM shirt already needed a cleaning before brunch even got started. Other than that, the service was good. The waitresses and waiter we encountered all seemed to know what they were doing and were good at their jobs. Overall. 3 out of 5 stars. Despite the syrup adding an unexpected flavor to my shirt and a couple of little issues, the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles were absolutely good enough to make me want to come back. This was my first visit to Stacks Café, and I'm hoping for an even better experience next time -- maybe with a little less honey on the waffle and a little less syrup on my table.
